Through this pAsuram, the repeatedly beckoning term varuga varuga mentions about the dependence on followers. Where did this dependence manifest? This was brought out by AzhwAr through the term vAmana nambi where, for the sake of his follower, indhra, emperumAn took on the garb of vAmana [dwarf] and went to mahAbali, who was not his follower [then]. Similarly, through the term kAguththa nambi, AzhwAr says that emperumAn went out of his kingdom, using his mother’s words as a pretext, but truly for the sake of celestial entities and sages [in the forests], to the battlefield arena of rAvaNa, an inimical entity, with the companionship of his bow and arrows and conquered rAvaNa. The term asalagam [as in asalagaththAr], refers to those who wish to attain emperumAn through other means [and not through emperumAn]. The words of such people would certainly appear unfavourable to AzhwAr, who is mangaLASAsanaparar. thiruvAimozhip piLLai narrates an incident involving piLLai uRangAvilli dhAsar, one of rAmAnuja’s disciples. Unable to tolerate the complaints of these women, he would ask, in a child-like manner “Which lock did krishNa break? Which expensive material did he usurp? They are complaining only about him. He has all the entities for milking as well as churning in his house.
