In this pAsuram, he recalls about the annihilation of mAligan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>seemAligan avanOdu thOzhamail koLLavum vallAy<\/em>!<br><em>sAmARu avanai nI eNNich chakkaraththAl thalai koNdAy<\/em>!<br><em>AmARu aRiyum pirAnE! aNiyarangaththE kidandhAy<\/em>!<br><em>EmARRam ennaith thavairththAy<\/em>! <em>iruvAtchip pUch chUtta vArAy<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>mAligan<\/em> \u2013 having the name \u201cmAligan\u201d (In the term <em>seemAligan<\/em> the term <em>see<\/em> is a courteous word. The samskrutham word <em>SrI<\/em> has become <em>see<\/em> in thamizh. Since he was kaNNan\u2019s friend, this word reflects that relationship)<br><em>avanOdu<\/em> \u2013 with him, who is famous as being the chief among those with monster-like qualities.<br><em>thOzhamai koLLavum<\/em> \u2013 even to be friendly<br><em>vallAy<\/em>! \u2013 oh, one who is capable!<br><em>avan<\/em> \u2013 that monster (here, the syllable <em>ai<\/em> in <em>avanai<\/em> is for poetic metrics; it does not have any meaning)<br><em>sAm ARu<\/em> \u2013 the modes of killing him<br><em>nI eNNi<\/em> \u2013 you had thought of<br><em>chakkaraththAl<\/em> \u2013 with the <em>chakrAyudham<\/em> (divine disc)<br><em>thalai koNdAy<\/em>! \u2013 oh, one who severed his head!<br><em>Am Aru<\/em> \u2013 that which is going to happen<br><em>aRiyum<\/em> \u2013 capable of knowing<br><em>pirAnE<\/em>! \u2013 oh, my lord!<br><em>aNi<\/em> \u2013 being beautiful<br><em>arangaththu<\/em> \u2013 in the big town of SrI rangam<br><em>kidandhAy<\/em>! \u2013 oh, one who is reclining!<br><em>en<\/em> \u2013 me, who is concerned for you (here again, <em>ai<\/em> (as in <em>ennai<\/em>), is a poetic metric)<br><em>EmARRam<\/em> \u2013 sorrow<br><em>thavirththAy<\/em>! \u2013 oh, one who removed!<br><em>iruvAtchi pU<\/em> \u2013 you should come to don <em>iruvAtchi pU<\/em> [Tuscan jasmine flower]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, one who is capable of even being friendly with mAligan, who is the chief among those with monster-like qualities! Oh, one who severed his head, with your divine disc, after analysing the modes in which you could kill him! Oh, my lord, who knows the events which are going to take place! Oh, one who is reclining in the beautiful town of SrI rangam! Oh, one who removed the sorrow of mine, who is concerned about you! You should come to don the Tuscan jasmine flower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>seemAligan \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; A person, by name <em>mAligan<\/em> was friendly with krishNa. He learnt the usage of weapons from krishNa. With this power, without fearing anyone, he started harming noble people in the world. krishNa thought \u201cHe has become a friend, hence it is not possible to kill him\u201d and was troubled in his divine mind. Once, krishNa became angry with seemAligan [due to his harming noble people]. seemAligan started blabbering in response with words such as \u201c<em>naRugu muRugu<\/em>\u201d [meaningless harsh words]. Then, seemAligan told krishNa \u201cYou had trained me in all the weapons; but you haven\u2019t trained me in <em>Azhi<\/em> (divine discus)\u201d. krishNa told him \u201cIt is a distinct weapon for me; it is not something which is to be done for you\u201d. However, seemAligan compelled krishNa, saying \u201cIs there any weapon which is not to be handled by me?\u201d krishNa thought \u201cDue to his bad nature, he has to be annihilated\u201d. Without any defect to his greatness, he started teaching seemAligan in handling the divine discus. With one divine finger, he spun the divine disc and let it into the sky. As the divine disc came down from the sky, he took it in his divine hand effortlessly. Seeing this, seemAligan said \u201cIs it difficult for me?\u201d Despite krishNa telling him \u201cThis is not for you\u201d, seemAligan took the divine disc in his hand, spun it and let it into the sky. As it came down spinning, aiming to take it in his finger, he kept the finger close to his neck. Since it is a sharp disc, and since it did not have enough space to spin from his finger, it severed seemAligan\u2019s head. This narrative, which is mentioned in <em>ithihAsam<\/em> [epic] etc, has been briefly stated in the earlier part of the pAsuram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>seemAligan avanOdu thOzhamai koLLavum vallAy<\/strong> \u2013 <em>sI<\/em> \u2013 a courteous word. Due to your eminent quality, you are capable of being friendly with even a person, named seemAligan, who has monster-like qualities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>sAmARu avanai nI eNNi<\/strong> \u2013 Once he started indulging in harming noble persons, you thought \u201cIf he is not killed, the world cannot tolerate\u201d, analysing a way for him to die. In other words, the blame that \u201cHe had killed his friend\u201d should not come on to him and that it should be said \u201cHe died due to his own deed\u201d. In the term <em>avanai<\/em>, the syllable <em>ai<\/em> is a <em>sAriyai<\/em> (augment) and does not have any meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa thought \u201cWhat shall we do with him? We are not able to make him accept our words of advice. Due to friendship with us, he is harming people in the world. Moreover, he does not realise that any weapon, which is distinct for us will not be under his control, yet he is compelling\u201d. Ultimately, krishNa, who is such that he will enter one\u2019s mind and be sweet, like nectar, thought of the modes by which he could destroy seemAligan, without getting blamed for it and did that in a manner which made AzhwAr to celebrate by composing the verse \u201c<em>thOzhamai koLLavum vallAy, sIr chakkaraththAl thalai koLLavum vallAy<\/em>\u201d (you are capable of being even friendly and also capable of severing his head with the divine disc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>chakkaraththAl thalai koNdAy<\/strong> \u2013 Oh, one who severed his head with the divine disc, despite telling him \u201cThis is a distinct weapon for me; this is not for you\u201d. Since mAligan compelled you, with the garb of training him in that weapon, you had destroyed him through the divine disc as the means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AmARu aRiyum pirAnE<\/strong> \u2013 Oh, one who is the benefactor, knowing the consequence of engaging with either annihilation of enemy or protection of followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that AzhwAr says \u201c<em>AmARu aiyum pirAnE<\/em>\u201d since the divine disc severed seemAligan\u2019s head. For AzhwAr, it is not that emperumAn became friendly with seemAligan and severed his head with the intention of killing him in the correct way, which made him to say \u201c<em>AmARu aRiyum pirAnE<\/em>\u201d. It is not even emperumAn\u2019s nature of being, as said in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/09\/thirumalai-15\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11144\">thirumAlai 15<\/a> \u201c<em>poyyarkkE poyyanAgum<\/em>\u201d (he would display falseness to those who are not interested in him as the ultimate benefit) or when he measured the worlds with his expanded foot, in a deceptive way [when he went in a deceptive garb to mahAbali] that AzhwAr says \u201c<em>AmARu aRiyum pirAnE<\/em>\u201d. It is when emperumAn reclines in SrI rangam that AzhwAr thinks in his divine mind \u201c<em>aNiyarangaththE kidandhAy, AmARu aRiyum pirAnE<\/em>\u201d. It is due to this that emperumAn too removed his sorrow. <em>EmARRam<\/em> \u2013 sorrow. It is the thought of \u201cWhat will befall this [most eminent] entity?\u201d Will it get removed? thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that just as it has been mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2019\/03\/thiruvaimozhi-8-3-11-uraiya-vennoy\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"24880\">thiruvAimozhi 8.3.11<\/a> \u201c<em>uRaiyAvennOy thavira<\/em>\u201d (removing the cruel disease of wondering \u201cWhat will happen to bhagavAn who is the lord of <em>ubhaya vibhUthi<\/em>, the two realms [materialistic and spiritualistic]\u201d by eradicating through his grace), emperumAn will remove that sorrow.
