Clap your hands<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hundred kings [kauravas, starting from dhuryOdhana] did not listen to your words, you being the father of all the worlds, when you told them to share their kingdom with pANdavas. They thought that they could kill the five pANdavas and rule the entire world themselves. They entered the battlefield with arrogance. To kill them, you had conducted the chariot for the pANdavas, when they prayed to you to help them. Clap, with those divine hands, with which you conducted the chariot. Oh, one who was born from the stomach of dhEvakip pirAtti, as a proud lion cub! Clap your hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>thAriththu<\/strong> \u2013 the short syllable in the word <em>thariththu<\/em> has got lengthened as <em>thAriththu<\/em>. <em>thariththu<\/em> refers to tolerating. It also refers to listening, with intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says: thinking with pride \u201cWhere is their existence? We are a hundred; they are only five\u201d without fulfilling the words of one who is <em>nirupAdhika pithA<\/em> (father without any cause, viz. emperumAn)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>nURRuvar<\/strong> \u2013 this is to be combined with the next term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>thandhai sol koLLAdhu<\/strong> \u2013 just as it has been said in mahAbhAratham AraNya parvam 192-56 \u201c<em>sarvEshAmEva lOkAnAm pithA mAthA cha mAdhava<\/em>:\u201d (only the divine consort of SrI mahAlakshmi is the father and mother of all entities in the worlds), since you are the father of all, you had gone as a messenger [to the court of dhritharAshtra] in order to unite the two sides [kauravas and pANdavas]. You had said \u201cpANdavas and you need not have enmity towards each other; both of you have a right to enjoy the kingdom; hence, divide the kingdom into two and enjoy your share; if you are not willing to do that, give to each of the five pANdavas, two villages; if even that is not agreeable, give one village each to them so that they could reside\u201d. Without accepting any of your words \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>pOr uyththu \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; just as it has been said in mahAbhAratham udhyOga parvam \u201c<em>vIra bhOgyA vasundharA<\/em>\u201d (one who is valorous will enjoy the earth), deciding to wage a war, they entered the battlefield with arrogance. The hundred kings[kauravas] wanted to destroy pANdavas in the war and rule over the entire earth. To ensure that all the hundred, without leaving behind anyone, get killed\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here: [the kauravas] entered the battlefield with their armies and weapons, against those who are favoured by krishNa. <em>maNNALa<\/em> \u2013 kings who thought that they alone will rule the entire earth, perished, just like a flowering tree withers and falls down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>panjavarkku \u2026 <\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; pANdavas felt isolated, without any help other than you. With the divine hands with which you had conducted the chariot for them such that you had, without holding any weapons during the war, annihilated the opponents [hundred kauravas] through your expertise in conducting the chariot, you should clap. While the term <em>mannar<\/em> [kings] is in plural, the term <em>pada<\/em> [died] is in singular. Instead of saying \u201cThat person died; this person died; he died etc\u201d, this term establishes that all of them died. He [AzhwAr] did not see anyone remaining with life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the reason for saying <em>panjavar<\/em> [five persons] instead of pANdavar is because AzhwAr had said <em>nURRuvar<\/em> [hundred people] earlier and he wants to maintain the count. <em>uyththal<\/em> \u2013 to conduct. AzhwAr says that just as krishNa had shown <em>ASritha pArathanthryam <\/em>(fulfilling desire due to dependence on his followers) in the battlefield, he should fulfil his [AzhwAr\u2019s] desire too here [by clapping his hands].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>dhEvaki singamE<\/strong> \u2013 Oh, one who is arrogant like a lion cub, having incarnated from the stomach of dhEvakip pirAtti! You should clap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the arrogance results from being born in a royal clan.
