Hence, the male swan remained without separating from its spouse and both are drinking honey in the fertile fields which surround thirunaRaiyUr. bhagavAn is mercifully residing in such thirunaRaiyUr. Such Sriya:pathi eliminated the sorrow of rudhra who is holding the very stinking brahma kapAlam in his hand and roamed around the three worlds for bhikshA. Oh heart! Try to surrender unto the divine feet of such lord, which match each other.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

pedai adarththa mada annam – Since the male swan is roaming around the flower, the female swan is always suspecting the male swan [that it may be seeking other female swans]. The submissive male swan, which was tormented by the female swan, went to the female swan and the tables turned around. It started showing its teeth (seeking enjoyment), held the female swan’s feet and prayed.

piriyAdhu – Not even separating for a moment. Not even going in search of honey thinking “We need to give something sweet to the female swan”.

malark kamalam madal eduththu – Instead of going to another flower, remaining in the same flower, eliminating the petals in that same flower, it will taste the honey a bit and then feed that to the female swan also.

This is how the fertile fields are seen in this town. The one who is present inside the town is such that, anyone who has any amount of pride can enter.

mudai … – rudhra, plucked the head of brahmA who is the guru (elder, teacher) of the world and also his own father, and due to that became pAthaki (big sinner); mudai – dhurgandham – stench. Holding such brahma Siras (brahmA’s head), just as a person who ruled a town became roaming in the town with the skull in his hand, and roamed around seeking alms in the same place where he had ruled previously, as the ISvara.

idar keduththa thiruvALan – bhagavAn’s divine heart became wounded thinking “Why such a honourable person has become insulted!”, and he eliminated the curse for Siva.

When asked “What is the reason for his help?” AzhwAr says

thiruvALan – Since he is said to be Sriya:pathi, as said in mAthsya purANam 182 “thathra nArAyaNa: SrImAn mayAbhikshAm prayAchitha: … ” (That SrIman nArAyaNa was asked for alms by me; by his mercy, the skull which got stuck to my hand broke into many pieces).

His,

iNai adiyE adai nenjE – Oh heart!
