She \u00a0asks him as to what he desires. He responds saying that he wants involvement in <em>kainkaryam<\/em> (carrying out service to dhivya dhampathi) and to have complete belief in SaraNAgathi (our <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/full-list\/\">pUrvAchAryas<\/a> call this as <em>mahaviSvAsam<\/em>). When a person performs SaraNAgathi to the lotus feet of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">perumAL<\/a>, it also ensures that he gets to carry out <em>kainkaryam<\/em>. Even then, it is expected of a person who performs SaraNAgathi to the lotus feet of perumAL to have strong desire for kainkaryam and also possess strong belief in SaraNAgathi. Is it that SrI rAmAnuja did not have these two qualities (desire for kainkaryam and belief in SaraNAgathi) earlier? Compared to what the result is (after performing SaraNAgathi), i.e. getting to reach mOksham and performing kainkaryam, we have to think that we do not have anything in us to reach that goal. And this is true too. Moreover, our <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/full-list\/\">pUrvAchAryas<\/a> always thought that they did not have anything good in them, out of <em>naichyAnusandhAnam<\/em> (thinking very lowly of oneself) in order to reach SrIvaikuNtam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let us now look at the 2nd chUrNai:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">chUrNai<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>pAramArthika bhagavachcharaNAravindha yugala aikAnthikAthyanthika parabhakthi paragyAna paramabhakthikrutha paripUrNAnavaratha nithya viSadhathama ananyaprayOjana anavadhikAthiSaya priya bhagavadhanubhavajanitha anavadhikAthiSaya prIthikAritha aSEshavasthOchitha aSEsha SEshathaikarithirUpa nithya kainkarya prApthapEkshayA, pAramArthikI bhagavachcharaNAravindha SaraNAgathi: yathAvasthithA avirathAsthu mE II<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Word-by-Word meaning<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">pAramArthika &#8211; fully true; that which gives meaning to the <em>parama purushArtham<\/em> (highest degree of benefit).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">bhagavan &#8211; one who possesses 6 essential qualities (already seen in<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/11\/saranagathi-gadhyam-1\/\"> chUrNai 1<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">charaNa &#8211; holy feet<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">aravindha &#8211; lotus<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">yugala &#8211; two<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">aikAnthika &#8211; nothing beyond this (Ekam &#8211; one; antham &#8211; end); bhakthi (devotion )only in <em>thiruvadi<\/em> (exalted feet)\u00a0 and nothing beyond this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Athyanthika &#8211; that which does not have an end (antham &#8211; end; athyantham &#8211; without end)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">parabhakthi &#8211; growing desire to be with God<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">paragyAna &#8211; ability to have dharSan (vision) of God<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">paramabhakthi &#8211; to reach God<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">krutha &#8211; that which was done<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">paripUrNa &#8211; fully<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">anavaratha &#8211; continuously (without any hurdle)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">nithya &#8211; permanently<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">viSadhathama &#8211; experiencing through paramabhakthi<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ananya prayOjana &#8211; having only God as the end result and nothing else<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">anavadhika &#8211; without reducing (also, without any limit)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">athiSaya &#8211; wondrous<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">priya &#8211; lovingly<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">bhagavadh &#8211; of bhagavan<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">anubhava &#8211; experience<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">janitha &#8211; born<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">anavadhika &#8211; without reducing<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">athiSaya &#8211; wondrous<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">prIthi &#8211; deep love<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">kAritha &#8211; to be effected<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">aSEsha &#8211; without leaving anything<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">avasthOchitha &#8211; relevant to all states<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">aSEsha &#8211; without leaving anything<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SEshathaikarathirUpa &#8211; \u00a0epitome of loving kainkaryam as his sEshan (servitor)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">nithya kainkarya prApthi &#8211; to get to carry out permanent kainkaryam<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">apEkshaya &#8211; expect; desire<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">pAramArthikI &#8211; truly<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">bhagavach charaNaravindha &#8211; lotus like feet of bhagavan<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SaraNAgathi &#8211; surrender<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">yathAvasthithA &#8211; in whatever state it is in<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">aviratha &#8211; without break or gap<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">asthu mE &#8211; happen to me<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Explanatory note (Detailed vyAkhyAnam)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>pAramArthika<\/strong> &#8211; artham means both prayOjanam (end result) and truth. If it is used as an adjective for parabhakthi (<em>paramArthika parabhakthi<\/em>), pAramArhtika refers to \u00a0bhakthi&#8217;s causelessness (<em>nirhEthukathvam<\/em>). In other words, if the bhakthi comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavan<\/a>&#8216;s blessings, it is <em>sidhdha<\/em> bhakthi, a bhakthi which comes readily to us without any effort from our part. \u00a0If on the other hand we take efforts to get bhakthi, it is<em> sAdhana<\/em> bhakthi, a bhakthi which comes out of our efforts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If <strong>pAramArthika<\/strong> is taken as an adjective for <em>charaNAravindham<\/em> (lotus feet) (<em>pAramArthika charaNAravindham<\/em>), it refers to <em>prayOjana thiruvadi<\/em>\u00a0i.e. attaining and enjoying the lotus feet for carrying out kainkaryam to lotus feet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>bhagavach charaNa aravindha<\/strong> &#8211; the term <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> is added here to highlight the superiority of his lotus feet. This indicates the sweetness that happens to the lotus feet due to the qualities of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>. \u00a0Since his qualities are enjoyable, these lead to paramabhakthi which makes the enjoyment even more desirable. charaNa aravindha &#8211; the lotus feet are indicative of the entire physical being of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> and are hence enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>yugala<\/strong> \u00a0&#8211; enjoyment borne out of the pair of lotus feet<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>aikAnthika<\/strong> &#8211; there is only one end; there is no second; i.e. \u00a0not looking at anything beyond this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Athyanthika<\/strong> &#8211; focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> alone; not having bhakthi elsewhere and on <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>parabhakthi<\/strong> &#8211; the prEmam (love) with <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> is such that there is joy when being with him and sorrow when not being with him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>paragyAna<\/strong> &#8211; parabhakthi stage blooms into seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>. Thus it is called <em>dharSana sAkshAthkAram<\/em> &#8211; i.e. having true vision of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>paramabhakthi<\/strong> &#8211; the end stage of parabhakthi wherein it is impossible to be away from <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>. Life ceases when separation happens. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/emperumanar\/\">SrI rAmAnuja<\/a> initially asked for gyAna, then bhakthi; with these two, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> takes him to the stage reached by bhakthi yOgi so that he attains paramabhakthi without having to go through the efforts put in by a bhakthi yOgi. Beyond this, SrI rAmAnuja desires other stages as explained below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>krutha<\/strong> &#8211; resulting from parabhakthi, paragyAna, paramabhakthi<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>paripUrNa<\/strong> &#8211; here it refers to the ability to experience <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s svarUpa, rUpa, guNa, vibhava \u00a0&#8211; all at the same time, completely, without any hurdle. With our limited sensory organs, it is not possible even to think of enjoying these qualities of bhagavAn which are unlimited in nature. Only after attaining parabhakthi, paragyAna and paramabhakthi, can we enjoy these.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>anavaratha<\/strong> &#8211; experiencing and enjoying <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s qualities continuously, without any break.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>nithya<\/strong> &#8211; permanently; until such time that <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a> exists (since <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a> always exists, the experience also will be always existing).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>viSadha thama<\/strong> &#8211; the third stage of anubhavam or experience. First stage is viSadha which is attained through parabhakthi. The 2nd stage, viSadha thara is attained through paragyAna and the final, through paramabhakthi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ananya prayOjana<\/strong> &#8211; experiencing and enjoying <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s qualities without expecting anything in return. Not even the prIthi (love) born out of experience or kainkaryam resulting from prIthi. Experience <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> only for the sake of experience and nothing else.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>anavadhika athiSaya priya<\/strong> &#8211; love towards <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> that is never reducing despite experiencing continuously, in a \u00a0wonderful manner<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>bhagavadhanubhava<\/strong> &#8211; the experience that <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a> gets after it leaves behind the last physical form (in which it carried out SaraNAgathi) and reaches paramapadham (SrIvaikuNtam) through archirAdhigathi (the path that takes the AthmA through 12 different worlds before crossing vrajA river and getting into SrIvaikuNtam). The bhagavadhanubhavam that one gets on <em>leelA vibhUthi<\/em> (samsAram &#8211; material realm) is limited while at <em>nithya vibhUthi<\/em> (SrIvaikuNtam &#8211; spiritual realm) it is unlimited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>janitha anavadhika athiSaya prIthi kAritha<\/strong> &#8211; the bhagavadhanubhavam gives birth to <em>prIthi<\/em>\u00a0which is deep love that is always overflowing and is wonderful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>aSEsha avasthOchitha<\/strong> &#8211; without leaving anything, \u00a0in all states, doing what he [emperumAn] desires<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>aSEsha SEshathaikarathirUpa<\/strong> &#8211; just as <em>ananthAzhwAn<\/em>\u00a0(Adhi SEshan) carries out <em>kainkaryam<\/em> in multifarious ways, carrying out all kainkaryams in itself becomes the shape of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a>&#8216;s love<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>nithya<\/strong> &#8211; the kainkaryam done is not just once or twice but for ever; permanently. The <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a> once it reaches SrIvaikuNtam, does not ever get back to earth for another birth. Hence it is kainkaryam that is there for ever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>kainkarya prApthi apEkshayA<\/strong> &#8211; desire for carrying out such kainkaryam<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>pAramArthikI<\/strong> &#8211; being completely and totally involved in kainkaryam<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>bhagavath<\/strong> &#8211; as one who possesses the 6 qualities (already seen) he does not expect anything in order to reach his lotus feet<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>charaNa aravindha<\/strong> &#8211; highlights the means for SaraNAgathi<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>SaraNAgathi<\/strong> &#8211; holding on to him in the way that he should be held<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>yathAvasthithA<\/strong> &#8211; as it is; i.e. leaving aside whatever should not be held (desire for worldly things) and holding on to what should be held (bhagavan&#8217;s lotus feet). Since this is <em>rahasyam<\/em>,(secret) he does not reveal here how to carry out SaraNAgathi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>avirathAsthu mE<\/strong> &#8211; this should happen to me without any break or hurdle; i.e. having reached his lotus feet, and getting the opportunity to carry out kainkaryam, it should be there for me for ever without any break.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let us now move on to the 3rd and 4th chUrNai, which are very short. Both have been spoken by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">pirAtti<\/a>, as a response to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/emperumanar\/\">SrI rAmAnuja<\/a>&#8216;s first two chUrNais.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>3rd chUrNai:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>chUrNai<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em> asthu thE\u00a0II<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Explanatory note (Detailed vyAkhyAnam)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let it happen to you!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>4th chUrNai:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>chUrNai<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>thayaiva sarvam sampathsyathE\u00a0II<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Explanatory note (Detailed vyAkhyAnam)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whatever you have prayed for, starting from parabhakthi to carrying out kainkaryam, with all the intervening stages such as paramagyAna, paramabhakthi etc, let it all happen to you!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With this , we have completed the first part of SaraNAgathi gadhyam, in which <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/emperumanar\/\">SrI rAmAnuja<\/a> first approaches <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">pirAtti<\/a> as a prelude to carrying out SaraNAgathi to bhagavAn so that she will perform her role of purushakAra bhUthai (one who recommends). Next he moves on to <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> for performing SaraNAgathi.
