What is the benefit that you would get by speaking these words to us, who are small girls and who do not know the meanings of these? Oh, kaNNanpirAn who has the complexion of a huge ocean which has agitating waves! Oh, one who built the bridge [across the ocean to reach lankA]! We order you in the names of your consorts. Do not come here and destroy our little houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>bhEdham nangu aRivArgaLOdu \u2026 insuvai<\/strong> \u2013 kaNNan started speaking a few words, to the girls in thiruvAyppAdi, with double entendre. They are words which suggested a meaning outwardly, but had an inner meaning which only a few, who would know the nuances, could make out. The girls tell him \u201cIf you speak these words to people who know their meanings, it will be useful to you. What is the purpose in speaking these words to us?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>peridhu insuvai<\/strong> \u2013 if you tell these words to those who know their inner meanings, they will converse with you with many such words, for each word which you use. That would create sweet taste for you. They tell him further \u201cWhat do you gain by telling us these and harassing us?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>yAdhum onRaRiyAdha \u2026en payan<\/strong> \u2013 if a man asks his beloved \u201cWater\u201d, she will understand that he is not asking for water to drink but likes to be together with her. But if you ask us, ignorant girls, \u201cWater\u201d, we will give you only drinking water. What purpose will it serve you if you use such words to us and harass us? As soon as they told him about the harassment which they faced with him, kaNNan became doubly radiant, just like gold which had been kept in the furnace for some time and removed subsequently. When he attempted to do it, they order him, in the names of his consorts\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>un maNavAttimArodu sUzhaRum<\/strong> \u2013 we are telling you in the names of your divine consorts! Do not destroy these houses. If you have to destroy something, there are many materials outside, which you can destroy. Since they are going to say \u201c<em>sEthu bandham thiruththinAy<\/em>\u201d [one who built bridge across the ocean], it is clear that they are considering him to be SrI rAma. However, SrI rAma observed the vow of having only one consort; in that case, their talking of <em>maNavAttimAr<\/em> (consorts, in plural) seems to hint that they too are using a coded language. Despite their telling him not to destroy, in the name of his consorts, he proceeded to destroy their houses. They tell him further \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>sEthu bandham thiruththinAy<\/strong> \u2013 having been born in the clan of royalty, who had strength right from the time of birth, and later, taking the help of monkeys and bears in building bridge across the ocean, just as it has been said in periya thirumozhi 6-10-6 \u201c<em>kAna eNgum kurangum musuvum padaiyA<\/em>\u201d (taking bears and monkeys in his army), since he had undergone lot of hardship in building the bridge, he would know the efforts required in building something. Is our effort at building these toy houses, inferior to his efforts in any way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>engaL siRRil vandhu sidhaiyElE<\/strong> \u2013 do not come with the intention to destroy our toy houses.
