Haven\u2019t many people attained deities such as rudhran and been granted their desires?\u201d\u00a0AzhwAr responds in this pAsuram saying \u201cThose celestial entities who were nearby knew how bANAsuran suffered after going to rudhran for help and how rudhran suffered when he tried to protect him\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n kundhamOdu sUlam vElgaL thOmarangaL thaNdu vAL<\/em> Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n kundhamOdu<\/em> \u2013 along with the weapon called as savaLam [lance] Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Celestial entities, holding lances, spears, tridents, many types of darts, maces, swords as protective weapons, ran in different directions towards their abodes in the ethereal layers. bANAsuran, who came to wage a battle [with krishNa], had his thousand hands destroyed. The celestial entities, who ran from the battlefield, knew the sorrows suffered by rudhran [in the battle].<\/p>\n\n\n\n vyAkyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n kundhamOdu sUlam vElgaL thOmarangaL thaNdu vAL bandhamAna dhEvargaL<\/strong> \u2013 celestial entities who came with different weapons such as lance etc, to rudhra to help him, as his friends. kundham<\/em> \u2013 a weapon, also known as savaLam<\/em> (lance); thOmaram<\/em> \u2013 a type of spear which is thrown (at the enemy); thaNdu<\/em> \u2013 mace; bandham \u2013 <\/em>friends, relatives. Alternatively, bandham could also be considered as hurdle, since when they were running away from the battlefield in fear, these weapons became hurdles for their running; hence they had to throw them away and run for their lives. (I incarnate myself in every epoch in order to protect good people, to destroy wicked people and to establish righteousness as laid down in vEdhas), instead of looking at krishNa as one who came to destroy monsters and demons who are their enemies and to give them back their prosperity, the celestial entities looked at him as those monsters and demons and took to weapons to oppose him. Thus, these celestial entities are depicted as treacherous entities. Instead of merely saying that celestial entities came with weapons, by describing the different types of weapons that they brought with them, AzhwAr is saying with anger that these entities were trying to harm emperumAn who was trying to help them all along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
