previous (sOrAdha kAdhal)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>pAsuram 16<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction (given by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Being pleased after thinking about the benefits he received (<a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s grace), <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he<\/a> wants all to become devoted (to <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) in the same way, and for that he talks about <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s graceful help to this world, <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> who is the target of <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-andal-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a>\u2019s grace, <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-andal-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> who is the desire of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction (given by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/08\/pillai-lokam-jiyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piLLailOkam jIyar<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the previous pAsuram, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he<\/a> celebrated <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> through his devotion to <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-periyazhwar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">periyAzhvAr<\/a>; in this pAsuram he talks about that <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-periyazhwar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a>\u2019s daughter <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-andal-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a>\u2019s natural compassion which <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> is living with, and his (<a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s) nature being of extreme generosity, due to which he is constantly deliberating about giving paramapadham to everyone; when all of the ways of vEdhas were lost, and when kali (its ill effects) was spread everywhere and was ruling the world, he came from the other world to this soil and saved everyone, he is such a beloved one; such glory; such <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-andal-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a>\u2019s<br \/>\n<em>thol aruLAl<\/em> \u2013 her natural kindness as his water source for growing;<br \/>\n<em>vAzhginRa vaLLal<\/em> \u2013 (he) lives due to that; he is extremely generous<br \/>\n<em>mAmuni ennum<\/em> \u2013 distinguished muni (deliberates)<br \/>\n<em>irAmAnusan<\/em> \u2013 that is <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>;<br \/>\nSince it is eternal, not created by anyone, significant beyond what is seen (prathyaksham), or inferred (anumAnam), and existing as truth by itself &#8230;<br \/>\n<em>oru thAzhvilla maRai \u2013 <\/em>that is, vEdham that is not deficient, in being its own reference,<br \/>\nthAzhndhu \u2013 due to those who do not accept it and those who interpret it wrongly, it became subdued and degraded, like the darkness that would spread when light is hidden,<br \/>\nthala muzhudhum \u2013 in all of the earth<br \/>\nkali \u2013 kali yuga<br \/>\nALginRa nAL \u2013 was ruling, during that time,<br \/>\nvandhu \u2013 (he) came (to this world) as requested (by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>)<br \/>\naLiththavan kANmin \u2013 see the one who redeemed that vEdha, and protected the world;<br \/>\nImplication is, like me shouldn\u2019t you too live relating only to him (<a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) and to nothing else.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>arangar mauli <\/em><\/strong><em>\u2013 <\/em>referring to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">periya perumAL<\/a> who is in kOyil (srIrangam) in divine rest, since he is the one having divine rest in <a href=\"http:\/\/srivilliputhur.koyil.org\/\">srIvillipuththUr<\/a> as vadaperum kOyil udaiyAn; for such swAmi\u2019s divine head;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>sUzhginRa mAlaiyai &#8211; <\/em><\/strong> flower garland that can be used for decorating {, or, that can be decorated by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>}<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>sUdik koduththavaL<\/em> \u2013 <\/strong>in her divine hair, as can be referred as \u2018<em>thAzh kuzhalAL<\/em>\u2019, first she decorated herself with that garland, and then removed it for presenting to the swAmi. As this happened, she was named \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sUdik koduththavaL<\/a>\u2019 (~one who wore and then gave)<strong><em>,<\/em><\/strong> and then that itself became her identity (her name is not mentioned in this pAsuram); like also said in \u2018<em>sUdik koduththa sudark kodiyE<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2014\/12\/thiruppavai-thaniyans-invocation\/\">thiruppAvai thaniyan<\/a>]\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperrumAnAr-ANdAL.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4684\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperrumAnAr-ANdAL.jpg\" alt=\"emperrumAnAr-ANdAL\" width=\"454\" height=\"341\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperrumAnAr-ANdAL.jpg 749w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperrumAnAr-ANdAL-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 454px) 100vw, 454px\" \/><\/a><em>sUdik koduththavaL with koyil aNNar<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>thol aruLAl<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 As said in <em>\u201cudhathi parama vyOmnOr-vismruthya mAdhrusa-rakshaNa-kshamamithi dhiyA bhUya:srIranga dhAmani mOdhasE<\/em> [<a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-bhattar-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">srI parAsara bhattar<\/a>\u2019s guNa rathna gOsam \u2013 56]<em>\u201d<\/em> (You spurned both the place of samudhra rAjan (your father)<em> and <\/em>parama padham (your husband\u2019s place), and you have come to srIrangam for us) (this is said towards <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">srIdhEvi nAchiAr<\/a>, but applies to bhUmA dhEvi (<a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-andal-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a>) as well) {<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a> also said \u201c<em>vaikuntha vAn bhOgam thannai igazhndhu, <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-periyazhwar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> thirumagaLArAi <\/em>[upadhEsa rathinamAlai \u2013 22] (~spurned the comforts of srI vaikuntam and was born as divine daughter of <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-periyazhwar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a>)},<\/p>\n<p>and in <em>\u201canugraha mayIm vandhE nithayam agyAtha nigrahAm <\/em>[<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyar.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/25\/sri-vedanthachariar-vaibhavam\/\">vEdhAnthAcharyar<\/a>\u2019s yathirAja sapthathi \u2013 2]<em>\u201d<\/em> (~thAyAr is full of blessings, and is incapable of taking any punitive action),<br \/>\nso, as she is the mother for all in these worlds, due to that motherly relationship, she is naturally merciful.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>vAzhginRa<\/em> \u2013<\/strong> by her mercy only, you see, is his well-being. When <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> performed charaNAgathy (surrendering), when <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">azhagiya maNavALan<\/a> had given <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sERththi<\/a> (together) with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">srI ranga nAyakiAr<\/a> in her sannidhi, he started with \u2018<em>bhagavan nArAyaNAbhi mathAnu rUpa<\/em> [gadhya thrayam]\u2019, it is famous that he performed prapaththi at Her divine feet first to begin with.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>vaLLal<\/em> \u2013 <\/strong>in this way, through Her he performed prapaththi to Him, and got the benefit, and he gave that benefit to everyone in this world \u2013 such a great generous one. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jIyar<\/a> also divined about this beauty by saying \u201c<em>kAlathrayEpi karaNathraya nirmitha athi pApakriyasya saraNam bhagavath kshamaiva | sA cha thvayaiva kamalA ramaNErththithA yath, kshEmassa Eva hi yathIndhra! bhavathsrithAnAm<\/em> [yathirAja vimsathi \u2013 18]\u201d (~rAmAnuja! for the sins one performed using the three faculties &#8211; mind, body, and speech, it is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">srIranganAthan<\/a> who is present in srIrangam the only refuge during all three times of the day; in fact, it is the prayer of dhEvarIr through gadhya thrayam to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aranganAthan<\/a> during the divine day of <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2013\/03\/panguni-uthram-and-emperumanar.html\">panguni uthram<\/a> that is our protection; this is our only protection.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>enRum mAmuni \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>as he is this much generous, he is always deeply deliberating about the protection of his devotees.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>irAmAnusan<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 that is, <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/11\/archavathara-anubhavam-emperumanar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>thAzhvu onRu illA maRai<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 vEdham not having any deficiency is about \u2013 bramam (mistaking one for other); pramAdham (forgetful); vipralambam (contradictions), etc.; purushapraNIthathvam (being created by someone); svaprAmANyE anya sApEkshathvam (having to refer to something else as source); anithyathvam (not existing at times\/not lasting); and so on \u2013 none of these deficiencies are present in vEdhas.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>maRai thAzhndhu<\/em><\/strong><em> \u2013 <\/em>such vEdham got affected badly due to bAhya kudhrishtis (those not accepting vEdhas, and those giving wrong meanings to vEdhas), and due to the nature of kali yuga; kali cramped and tried to destroy the vEdha; (this is explained in length quoting vishNu purANam and srImath bhAgavatham); due to the badness of kali, it was walking in ways that should be rejected, and cornered and side tracked the vEdham.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>thala muzhudhum kaliyE ALginRa nAL<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Like how when light is hidden\/removed, the darkness would surround and occupy the whole place, by the nature of this world that brings in darkness (ignorance), kali yuga was ruling alone this world; if time and place are right and amicable, then it would be possible to correct and protect; unlike that, the place was having multi-faceted enemies (of vEdhas), and time belonged to such people (so it was hard).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>vandhu \u2013<\/em><\/strong> during such terrible place and time, from Paramapadham he came as a blessing, as a divine incarnation in this world at srIperumbUthur<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>aLiththavan kANmin<\/em><\/strong><em> \u2013 <\/em>he came so and protected everyone, please see! Meaning is that, all of you please understand that he is your protector, so surrender to him and live right. <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-nammazhwar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> too said, \u2018<em>kaliyum kedum kaNdu koNmin<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> 5.2.1] (~ Watch for it! kali\u2019s effects will be destroyed!\u2019).<\/p>\n<p><strong>From AzhwAr thirunagari srI U.Ve. vidhwAn thirumalai nallAn chakravarththi rAmakrishNa iyengAr\u2019s \u2018amudha virundhu\u2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>vEdhas ever present means that the sequence of words is always the same \u2013 during annihilation when it is present in the divine mind of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>, and after it is passed as is to brahmA during his creation process;<br \/>\n<em>arangar <\/em> &#8211; unlike in his other pAsurams where he says \u2018aranga<strong>n\u2019, <\/strong>here he says \u2018aranga<strong>r\u2019 -&gt; <\/strong>similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-andal-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> using the word \u2018aranga<strong>r\u2019 <\/strong>during praNaya rOsham (upset with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> due to separation).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Andal-Thirkalayanam-779299-p_kumar.blogspot.com_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-212\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Andal-Thirkalayanam-779299-p_kumar.blogspot.com_.jpg\" alt=\"Andal Thirkalayanam-779299-p_kumar.blogspot.com\" width=\"218\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Andal-Thirkalayanam-779299-p_kumar.blogspot.com_.jpg 218w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Andal-Thirkalayanam-779299-p_kumar.blogspot.com_-204x300.jpg 204w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 218px) 100vw, 218px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>arangar<\/em> \u2013 can be considered as a plural of arangan; like how those who attained mukthi might assume different forms in order to do kainkaryam, here <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> due to his extreme love for <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/10\/archavathara-anubhavam-andal-anubhavam.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a>, is taking different forms to be with her &#8211;
