In the same way, AzhwAr is longing to experience periya perumAL in SrI rangam and describes this in the first pAsuram. When a jIvAthmA (one born in samsAram) gets liberated and goes to mOksham, kaushIdhakI upanishath says in SlOkam 1-51<\/p>\n<p><em>SrIrUpabarhaNam thasmin brahmAsthE<\/em> I<br \/>\n<em>thamiththamvith pAdhE naivAdhyArOhathi<\/em> II<\/p>\n<p>On that mattress of AdhiSEshan, pirAttiyAr (SrI mahAlakshmi) sits like an embankment for emperumAn\u2019s divine feet. On that mattress, SrIman nArAyaNan, parabrahmam, is reclining. The liberated jIvAthmA, knowing this, climbs onto brahmam, through the divine feet. The mukthAthmA (liberated AthmA) steps on that mattress of AdhiSEshan; emperumAn asks him \u201cWho are you?\u201d The mukthAthmA responds saying, just like he is a prince, \u201c<em>aham brahmAsmi<\/em>\u201d (I am an attribute for brahmam).<\/p>\n<p><em>iruLiriyach chudarmaNigaL imaikkum neRRi<br \/>\n<\/em><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 inaththuththi aNipaNam AyirangaL Arndha<br \/>\n<\/em><em>aravarasap perunjOdhi ananthan ennum<br \/>\n<\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 aNi viLangum uyar veLLai aNaiyai mEvit<br \/>\n<\/em><em>thiruvarangap perunagaruL theNNIrp ponni<br \/>\n<\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 thiraikkaiyAl adi varudap paLLi koLLum<br \/>\n<\/em><em>karumaNiyaik kOmaLaththaik kaNdu koNdu en<br \/>\n<\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 kaNNiNaigaL enRu kolO kaLikkum nALE<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word-by-word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>thiruvarangap perunagaruL<\/em> \u2013 in the big town known as SrI rangam<br \/>\n<em>iruL iriya<\/em> \u2013 for darkness to get scattered<br \/>\n<em>sudar maNigaL<\/em> \u2013 effulgent carbuncles<br \/>\n<em>imaikkum<\/em> \u2013 shining brightly<br \/>\n<em>neRRi<\/em> \u2013 forehead<br \/>\n<em>inaththuththi aNi<\/em> \u2013 appearing such that two divine feet have joined together<br \/>\n<em>paNangaL Ayiram Arndha<\/em> \u2013 having a thousand hoods in full<br \/>\n<em>aravu arasan<\/em> \u2013 being the king of snakes<br \/>\n<em>perum jOdhi<\/em> \u2013 being splendorous<br \/>\n<em>ananthan ennum<\/em> \u2013 thiruvananthAzhwAn (AdhiSEshan)<br \/>\n<em>aNi viLangum<\/em> \u2013 with a high degree of beauty<br \/>\n<em>uyar veLLai aNaiyai<\/em> \u2013 distinguished, white coloured divine mattress<br \/>\n<em>mEvi<\/em> \u2013 fitting well<br \/>\n<em>theL nIr ponni<\/em> \u2013 kAviri, which has clear water<br \/>\n<em>thirai kaiyAl adi varuda<\/em> \u2013 to massage the divine feet with waves, which are like hands<br \/>\n<em>paLLi koLLum<\/em> \u2013 having divine sleep<br \/>\n<em>karumaNiyai<\/em> \u2013 like a bluish gemstone<br \/>\n<em>kOmaLaththai<\/em> \u2013 periya perumAL who has unmatched tenderness<br \/>\n<em>en kaN iNaigaL<\/em> \u2013 my eyes<br \/>\n<em>kaNdu koNdu<\/em> \u2013 worshipping without a break<br \/>\n<em>kaLikkum nAL<\/em> \u2013 that happy day<br \/>\n<em>enRu kolO<\/em> \u2013 when is that day?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>periya perumAL, who has unmatched tenderness and is like a bluish gemstone, is fitting well with, and having a divine sleep, on the great, white coloured mattress of ananthAzhwAn, in the huge city of SrI rangam. The splendorous ananthAzhwAn is the king of all snakes, with a thousand hoods spread out fully, with forehead shining brightly and with each of his heads appearing like a pair of divine feet having joined together. periya perumAL\u2019s divine feet are gently massaged by the river kAviri, with her waves which are like her hands. When will my pair of eyes worship such perumAL, without a break?<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>iruL iriyach chudar maNigal imaikkum neRRi<\/strong> \u2013 Through the first part of the pAsuram, AzhwAr describes how emperumAn is mercifully reclining on thiruvananthAzhwAn, who is having forehead emitting a brightness which scatters darkness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>inaththuththi aNi paNam AyirangaLArndha<\/strong> \u2013 the term <em>inaththuththi<\/em> refers to the divine feet which are joined together. Each head of AdhiSEshan appears like a pair of divine feet which are joined together with <em>thirumaNkAppu<\/em> (the divine mark carried on the forehead of SrIvaishNavas). Who has such hoods which are a thousand?<\/p>\n<p><strong>aravarasap perunjOdhi<\/strong> \u2013 nAgarAjan \u2013 one who has an effulgence affirming that he is the king of all snakes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ananthan ennum<\/strong> &#8211; In line with his name of <em>ananthan<\/em> (one who is without an end), he has such a divine form and auspicious qualities that he contains within himself even emperumAn, who pervades all entities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ennum<\/strong> \u2013 there are other great snakes such as sumukhan, dhakshan, vAsuki et al. ananthAzhwAn is closer to emperumAn than all these other snakes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>aNi viLangum uyar veLLai aNaiyai mEvi<\/strong> \u2013 fitting well atop AdhiSEshan, who is having eminent beauty, and who has a distinguished whiteness without any trace of other colours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thiruvarangap perunagaruL<\/strong> \u2013 It has been said in SAsthras (sacred texts) that emperumAn is enjoyed by nithyas (permanent dwellers of SrI vaikuNtam) and mukthas (those who reached SrI vaikuNtam after being liberated from samsAram). Saiva purANam SlOkam brings this out clearly as in <em>vaikuNtEthu parElOke SriyA Sardham jagathpathi:<\/em> I<br \/>\n<em>Asthe vishNur achinthyAthmA bhakthair bhAgavathais saha<\/em> II (SrI mahAvishNu, who is the<em> swAmy<\/em> (one who owns) and whose basic form is beyond anyone\u2019s comprehension, mercifully resides in the distinguished SrI vaikuNtam along with SrIdhEvi, bhakthas (those who are totally engaged with emperumAn\u2019s auspicious qualities) and bhAgavathas (those who are totally involved in carrying out kainkaryam (service) to emperumAn)). AzhwAr longs for that experience in this thiruvarangam itself. This verse refers to SrI rangam which is a magnificent town. Further, AzhwAr describes as to how emperumAn mercifully resides in this place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>theNNIrp ponni thiraikkaiyAl adivaruda<\/strong> \u2013 river kAviri, who flows with clear water, gently massages the divine feet of emperumAn with her waves, which are like her hands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>paLLi koLLum karumaNiyai<\/strong> \u2013 one who is reclining on thiruvananthAzhwAn like a blue gemstone<\/p>\n<p><strong>kOmaLaththai<\/strong> \u2013 he is such tender that his divine form will not tolerate if one were to even look at him constantly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kaNdu koNdu<\/strong> \u2013 for his followers, just looking at him is the ultimate benefit, just like a famished person would look at food.<\/p>\n<p><strong>en kaNNiNaigaL<\/strong> \u2013 my eyes, which are famished.<\/p>\n<p><strong>enRu kolO kaLikkum nALE<\/strong> \u2013 thaiththirIya upanishath, bhruguvalli 10-6 says &#8220;<em>aham annam aham annam aham annam<\/em> I<br \/>\n<em>aham annAdhO\u2019hamannAdhO\u2019ham annAdha<\/em>: II&#8221; (I am an enjoyable entity (for emperumAn), like food. I am the enjoyer of food (enjoying the happiness of emperumAn)).
