Being blessed with divine knowledge, AzhwAr realizes that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a> is both prApyam (goal) and prApakam (means) and reveals the same through thirumAlai. After that, wanting to serve <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a>, AzhwAr sings <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=374\">thiruppaLLiyezhuchchi<\/a> to wake <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> up (roles reversed now &#8211; first <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> woke AzhwAr up and now AzhwAr wakes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> up).<\/p>\n<p>Once it is understood that goal and means are <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> only, naturally one will constantly meditate on and enjoy <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s divine sleep, divine assembly and ones own kainkaryam by preparing garlands to <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\">ANdAL nAchchiyAr<\/a> enjoyed this aspect in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=68\">thiruppAvai<\/a> 23\u00a0 &#8220;<em>mArimalai muzhainjil&#8221; (\u0bae\u0bbe\u0bb0\u0bbf\u0bae\u0bb2\u0bc8 \u0bae\u0bc1\u0bb4\u0bc8\u0b9e\u0bcd\u0b9a\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0bcd<\/em>). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> established ultimate kainkaryam to bhAgavathas in thiruvAimozhi 8.10 decad &#8220;<em>nedumARkadimai&#8221; (\u0ba8\u0bc6\u0b9f\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bbe\u0bb1\u0bcd\u0b95\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0bae\u0bc8<\/em>), instructed the essential principles for the people of this world in thiruvAimozhi 9.1 decad &#8220;<em>koNda peNdir makkaL&#8221; (\u0b95\u0bca\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f \u0baa\u0bc6\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0bb0\u0bcd \u0bae\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bb3\u0bcd<\/em>) and revealed his great desire to serve <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> after waking him up in thiruvAimozhi 9.2.3 pAsuram &#8220;<em>kidantha nAL kidanthAy&#8221; (\u0b95\u0bbf\u0b9f\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4 \u0ba8\u0bbe\u0bb3\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bbf\u0b9f\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bcd<\/em>). viswAmithra rishi also woke srI rAma up as mentioned in srI rAmAyaNam, bAla kANdam \u2013 23.2 &#8220;<em>kausalyA suprajA rAma<\/em> &#8230;&#8221; (<em>\u0b95\u0bcc\u0bb8\u0bb2\u0bcd\u0baf\u0bbe \u0bb8\u0bc1\u0baa\u0bcd\u0bb0\u0b9c\u0bbe \u0bb0\u0bbe\u0bae<\/em> &#8230;). Along the same lines,\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/08\/thondaradippodi-azhwar\/\">thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr<\/a> also observes the beauty of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a> waking up and wanting to serve him, sings <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=374\">thiruppaLLiyezhuchchi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Adhithya (sun) appears in the udhyagiri (mountain in the eastern side). Giving up their pride, dhEvAthAs and kings arrive at the south side of the temple with raw-materials required for <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/07\/srivaishnava-thiruvaaraadhanam.html\">thiruvArAdhanam<\/a>. Seeking out for the merciful vision of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, they push each other and stand infront of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a>. AzhwAr too requests <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> (who is the protector of all, husband of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">srImahAlakshmi<\/a>, one who is very attached to his devotees and one who is approachable by all) to engage him in his kainkaryam. Just like some people will show their kids and earn their livelihood, AzhwAr shows the presence of dhEvathAs\u00a0 (who are looking for material benefits) and request his desires (kainkaryam) to be fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>Thus ends <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\">nanjIyar<\/a>&#8216;s introduction to this dhivya prabandham.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/periyavachan-pillai-english\/\">periyavAchchAn piLLai<\/a> &#8216;s introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/08\/thondaradippodi-azhwar\/\">thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr<\/a> initially being ignorant about svarUpa (true nature of oneself), upAya (means) and purushArththa (goal), considering his dhEham (body) as AthmA (himself), was engaged in wordly pleasures and also engaged his acquaintances to be like that. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a>, out of his causeless mercy, revealed his divine beauty to AzhwAr, eradicated AzhwAr&#8217;s worldly desires and stimulated AzhwAr&#8217;s attraction towards him. AzhwAr too, approaches\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a> with the intent of serving him. But\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a> (being <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/p\/archavathara-anubhavam.html\">archAvathAra emperumAn<\/a>), does not physically interact with him and just stays lying down.<\/p>\n<p>But him lying down (pretending to be sleeping) does not mean that perumAL ignores AzhwAr since AzhwAr is dear to him. As <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is sudhdha sathvam (pure goodness), it cannot be said that perumAL is lying down due to indigestion or due to thamO guNam (laziness\/lethargy). But it is due to to AzhwAr<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>being fully realized about the inappropriate state of material existence for the true nature of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">jIvAthmA<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li>being fully realized about the true nature of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">jIvAthmA<\/a> which is to be a servitor of bhAgavathas<\/li>\n<li>having full knowledge about matter and soul<\/li>\n<li>having full control over his own senses<\/li>\n<li>having no attachment towards other upAyams such as karma, gyAna, bhakthi yOgams, etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a>\u00a0is lying down in srIrangam meditating on getting a dear devotee like AzhwAr, considering his own greatness which reformed AzhwAr and thinking about how to bring all other <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">jIvAthmA<\/a>s to the same level of AzhwAr.<\/p>\n<p>Just like srI rAma never had good sleep while being separated from sIthA pirAtti,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a> also was having sleepless times when not having AzhwAr as his devotee. But once, AzhwAr became fully devoted to perumAL, perumAL also started sleeping peacefully. Since AzhwAr is so attached to kainkaryam and cannot think about anything else, just like viswAmithra woke srI rAma up (we have already seen &#8220;kausalyA suprajA rAma&#8221; slOkam), sIthA pirAtti woke srI rAma up as mentioned in srI rAmAyaNam, sundhara kANdam 38.25 &#8220;<em>samayA bOdhitha: srImAn&#8221; (\u0bb8\u0bae\u0baf\u0bbe \u0baa\u0bcb\u0ba4\u0bbf\u0ba4: \u0bb8\u0bcd\u0bb0\u0bc0\u0bae\u0bbe\u0ba8\u0bcd<\/em>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\">ANdAL<\/a> woke kaNNan <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> up in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=68\">thiruppAvai<\/a> 17 &#8220;<em>umbar kOmAnE uRangAthezhundhirAy&#8221; (\u0b89\u0bae\u0bcd\u0baa\u0bb0\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bcb\u0bae\u0bbe\u0ba9\u0bc7 \u0b89\u0bb1\u0b99\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bbe\u0ba4\u0bc6\u0bb4\u0bc1\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bbf\u0bb0\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bcd<\/em>), AzhwAr to wakes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">periya perumAL<\/a> up saying &#8220;<em>arangaththammA paLLiyezhuntharuLAyE&#8221; (\u0b85\u0bb0\u0b99\u0bcd\u0b95\u0ba4\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bae\u0bcd\u0bae\u0bbe \u0baa\u0bb3\u0bcd\u0bb3\u0bbf\u0baf\u0bc6\u0bb4\u0bc1\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb3\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bc7<\/em>) in this prabandham and requests <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> to engage him in kainkaryam to bhAgavathas in the end saying &#8220;<em>thoNdaradippodiyennum adiyanai aLiyanenRaruLi unnadiyArkku AtpaduththAy&#8221; (\u0ba4\u0bca\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bb0\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0baa\u0bcd\u0baa\u0bca\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0baf\u0bc6\u0ba9\u0bcd\u0ba9\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b85\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0baf\u0ba9\u0bc8 \u0b85\u0bb3\u0bbf\u0baf\u0ba9\u0bc6\u0ba9\u0bcd\u0bb1\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb3\u0bbf \u0b89\u0ba9\u0bcd\u0ba9\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0baf\u0bbe\u0bb0\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bc1 \u0b86\u0b9f\u0bcd\u0baa\u0b9f\u0bc1\u0ba4\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bcd<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>The reason for AzhwAr forcefully waking <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> up to engage in kainkaryam is because, AzhwAr knows that kainkaryam (service) for the full pleasure of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is the ultimate goal. iLaiya perumAL (lakshmaNa) said &#8220;<em>aham sarvam karishyAmi jAgrathas svapathascha thE<\/em>&#8221; (<em>\u0b85\u0bb9\u0bae\u0bcd \u0bb8\u0bb0\u0bcd\u0bb5\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bb0\u0bbf\u0bb7\u0bcd\u0baf\u0bbe\u0bae\u0bbf \u0b9c\u0bbe\u0b95\u0bcd\u0bb0\u0ba4\u0bb8\u0bcd \u0bb8\u0bcd\u0bb5\u0baa\u0ba4\u0bb8\u0bcd\u0b9a \u0ba4\u0bc7<\/em>) in srI rAmAyaNam, ayOdhyA kANdam 31.25 &#8211; I will do all types of service to you while you are awake and sleeping. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> said in thiruvAimozhi 3.3.1 &#8220;<em>ozhivil kAlamellAm udanAy manni&#8230;&#8221; (\u0b92\u0bb4\u0bbf\u0bb5\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bbe\u0bb2\u0bae\u0bc6\u0bb2\u0bcd\u0bb2\u0bbe\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b89\u0b9f\u0ba9\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bcd \u0bae\u0ba9\u0bcd\u0ba9\u0bbf&#8230;<\/em>) &#8211; one should do all kainkaryams at all places, all times, all aspects and that too purely for his pleasure only as mentioned in thiruvAimozhi 2.9.4 &#8220;<em>thanakkEyAga enaikkoLLumIdhE&#8221; (\u0ba4\u0ba9\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bc7\u0baf\u0bbe\u0b95 \u0b8e\u0ba9\u0bc8\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bca\u0bb3\u0bcd\u0bb3\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bc0\u0ba4\u0bc7<\/em>) &#8211; engage me in your service only, purely for your own pleasure.\u00a0 Even while doing, kainkaryam should be done after receiving the orders from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> as iLaiya perumAL requests srI rAma in srI rAmAyaNam, AraNya kANdam 1.57 &#8220;<em>kriyathAmithi mAm vadha&#8221; (\u0b95\u0bcd\u0bb0\u0bbf\u0baf\u0ba4\u0bbe\u0bae\u0bbf\u0ba4\u0bbf \u0bae\u0bbe\u0bae\u0bcd \u0bb5\u0ba4<\/em>) &#8211; you order me to construct the hut (which is pleasing to you and sIthA pirAtti). AzhwAr too says to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> in thiruvAimozhi 8.5.7 &#8220;<em>mugappE kUvip paNi koLLAy&#8221; (\u0bae\u0bc1\u0b95\u0baa\u0bcd\u0baa\u0bc7 \u0b95\u0bc2\u0bb5\u0bbf\u0baa\u0bcd \u0baa\u0ba3\u0bbf \u0b95\u0bca\u0bb3\u0bcd\u0bb3\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bcd<\/em>) &#8211; call me in the front and engage me in your kainkaryam. Thus, AzhwAr wakes <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> up informing him that the day has dawned and requesting him to engage him in kainkaryams.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/periyavachan-pillai-english\/\">periyavAchchAn piLLai<\/a>, highlights the difference between thirumAlai and <a title=\"thiruppaLLiyezhuchchi\" href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=374\">thiruppaLLiyezhuchchi<\/a>. Let us see them now.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In thirumAlai, perumAL woke AzhwAr (who has been in samsAram since time immemorial) up from ignorance. Here, AzhwAr wakes perumAL (who is mesmerized due to great love towards AzhwAr) up.<\/li>\n<li>In thirumAlai, AzhwAr glorifies vAchika kainkaryam (45 &#8211; <em>punkavithaiyElum empirARkiniyavARe<\/em> &#8211; performing service by singing, speaking, etc).
