previous (sIriya nAn maRai)<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>pAsuram 12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction (given by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(amudhanAr) says he would befriend only those who do not befriend anyone other than <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> who in his heart has kept the divine feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisaip pirAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction (given by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/08\/pillai-lokam-jiyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piLLai lOkam jIyar<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The previous four pAsurams are a section where it is about getting to the devotees of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> who is a devotee of the <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/azhwars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvArs<\/a>; he who lived along the same time as the <a href=\"http:\/\/href=&quot;https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/10\/22\/mudhalazhwargal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first three AzhvArs (mudhalAzhvArs)<\/a>, and who based on advice and reformation by <a href=\"http:\/\/href=&quot;https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/10\/22\/mudhalazhwargal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pEyAzhvAr<\/a> had understood about thathva (truth), hitha (means), purshArththa (goal), yAthAthmya gyAnam (knowledge of inner meanings of self, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>, etc)., is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> has placed, and worships, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/a>&#8216;s divine and enjoyable feet in his heart; and there are devotees who have surrendered to such <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0 ultimate enjoyable divine feet ; (is) <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>;<br \/>\n<em>am<\/em> \u2013 (his) distinguished<br \/>\n<em>pon<\/em> \u2013 and which is available for everyone to surrender to<br \/>\n<em>pAdham<\/em> \u2013 (is his) divine feet;<br \/>\n<em>enRum<\/em> \u2013 at all times<br \/>\n<em>kadam koNdu<\/em> \u2013 (they) think that it (the divine feet) is the goal for their nature<br \/>\n<em>iRainchum thiru<\/em> \u2013 having the wealth of worshiping (such divine feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>);<br \/>\n<em>kAdhal seyy<strong>A<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 not be friends with<br \/>\n<em>munivarkku anRi<\/em> \u2013 other than those who meditate about the above;<br \/>\n<em>thidam koNda gyAniyarkkE<\/em> \u2013 gyAnis having such extremely determined mind;<br \/>\n<em>adiyEn anbu seyvadhu<\/em> \u2013 adiyen befriend only (such gyAnis)<\/p>\n<p>kadam = kadan -&gt; way to do<br \/>\ndhidam -&gt; dhruDam -&gt; determined mind<br \/>\nkoLgai -&gt; having such thing<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>idam koNda kIrththi<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 To test the greatness of his excellence of qualities that is spread all over the world, rudhran along with pArvarthi came and discussed in length and went away surprised by seeing his prowess;<\/p>\n<p>and in kanchIpuram when after an old woman served him for some time he gave her youthfulness and loveliness;<\/p>\n<p>(and because of that) and as <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> started leaving from his town due to lowly troubles (from the king) and was going towards the south, as <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> who was lying down in that place also started to go with him, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> requested him (later) to go back to the temple, and <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> did what was mentioned, and <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> continues to show that he did so by the name of \u2018<em>sonna vaNNam seydha perumAL\u2019<\/em> (yathOkthakAri &#8211; perumAL who did as was mentioned);<\/p>\n<p>and in chOzha maNdalam as he was going through an agrahAram (royal donation of land to brahmins), a few people were reciting vEdhas, and they stopped it when they saw this <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> {since they considered him not eligible to hear the vEdhic sound}, and as <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> moved further they were not able to remember what came next in recitation, and they got surprised and went and called back <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> took a black grain and split it to indicate it {next vEdhic word to continue from}, and the brahmins were able to recollect it \u2013 and this is a famous incident;<\/p>\n<p>(amudhanAr) is saying \u2018<em>idam koNda kIrththi\u2019<\/em> by thinking about all such greatness of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>idam koNda kIrththi<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 As said in pAsuram \u2018<em>niRpadhum Or veRpagaththu<\/em> [thiruchchandha viruththam \u2013 65]\u2019 , his excellence\/fame that is spread in all directions;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>mazhisaikku iRaivan<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Being a swAmi (master) of the dhivya dhEsam called <a href=\"http:\/\/thirumazhisai.koyil.org\/\">thirumazhisai<\/a>, and being identified by that name; that is, thirumazhisaip pirAn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperumAnAr-thirumazhisai-AzhwAr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4681\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperumAnAr-thirumazhisai-AzhwAr.jpg\" alt=\"emperumAnAr-thirumazhisai AzhwAr\" width=\"488\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperumAnAr-thirumazhisai-AzhwAr.jpg 701w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/emperumAnAr-thirumazhisai-AzhwAr-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px\" \/><\/a><em>emperumAnAr with thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>iNai adippOdhu<\/strong><\/span><\/em> \u2013 lotus flowers that is, the two divine feet that are most enjoyable and comforting; pOdhu = padhmam : lotus.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>adangum idhayaththu irAmAnusan<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 In the atom sized mind, the pervasive divine feet could be fit in \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> having such a region of heart {large heart}.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>am poR pAdham<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 the divine feet (of such <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>), which is like a container of loveliness, which is distinguished, and which is desired, and which is available for everyone to surrender to;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>enRum<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 at all times<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>kadam kOndu iRainjum<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 as said in \u2018<em>nasamsayasthu thadh bhaktha paricharya rathAthmanAm\u2019<\/em> (~for the devotees of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s devotes there is no doubt about attaining <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>)<em>, \u2018gururEva parambrahmam\u2019, and \u2018nIkkamillA adiyAr tham adiyAr adiyAr em kOkkaL<\/em> [thiruvAimozhi 8.10.10] (~the devotees of the devotees of the devotees of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> are my lords<em>\u2019<\/em>), (so) it is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s divine feet that is considered as to be attained; those who are determined to do so;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>thiru munivarkkanRik kAdhal seyyA<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 having such infinite wealth, and always thinking deeply about such help of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>; as said in \u2018\u201c<em>thruNIkrutha virinchAdhi nirankusa vibhUthaya: rAmAnuja padhAmbhOja samAsrayaNa sAlina: <\/em>\u201c [prArththanA panchakam \u2013 by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\">kUraththAzhvAn<\/a>] (One who is dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">rAmAnujar<\/a>\u2019s lotus feet would ignore all the worlds (of leelA vibhUthi) as a grass\/dust); except such people who don\u2019t praise other than based on the deepest secret from sruthi, smruthi, ithihAsams, and purANas that is about charama parvam (ultimate state (of being devotee ((of devotees) ));<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>thiDam koNda gyAniyarkkE<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 only to the knowledgeable learned people who have such determination in their minds; thiDam &#8211; dhiDam = dhriDam -&gt; strong will; koNda \u2013 having such;<\/p>\n<p>{Examples of such gyAnis, who were devoted to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>: }<\/p>\n<p>This is a famous incident: One day, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">azhagiya maNavALan (srI ranganAtha)<\/a> on a vAhanam came near <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s Mutt, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> came out and fell on His feet and went back in to the Mutt; he saw that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/01\/vaduga-nambi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vaduga nambi<\/a> did not come out and do the same but stayed inside; and asked, \u201cWhy did you not come out to worship namperumAL?\u201d; and he replied, \u201cIf I came out to worship dhEvarIr\u2019s perumAL, then the preparation of milk for my perumAL would be affected, isn\u2019t it?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the trouble of krimi kaNda chOzhan, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> went to mEl nAdu (thirunArAyaNapuram \/ mElkote); <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAn<\/a> went to that fellow\u2019s assembly and won the kudhrushtis (who misinterpret vEdhas), and returned to kOyil (srIrangam) and was living there \u2013 during that time one day as he went to visit <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">periya perumAL<\/a>, the king\u2019s men policing the entrance to the temple saw him and informed him about king\u2019s order of \u2018do not allow anyone inside the temple who is having the connection of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmAnujar<\/a>\u2019, and some others of them said, <strong>\u2018<\/strong>he (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAn<\/a>) is a person of higher knowledge\/qualities, let him in<strong>\u2019;<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAn<\/a> listened to their conversation, felt terrible about himself, and retreated, and said the knowledge and darshan of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> outside of relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> is not for us; and so after that he did not go back to the divine feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">periya perumAL<\/a> until <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> returned to kOyil; this is also well known.<\/p>\n<p>(I am subservient) to such strong willed and noble people.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>adiyEn anbu seivadhuvE<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 adiyEn: me who is of the nature of having subservience up to the devotees. anbu seivadhuvE \u2013 I befriend such devotees and be devoted to them.<\/p>\n<p>jIyar also prayed for this, in \u201c<em>vAchA yathIndhra<\/em> &#8230; <em>pAdhAnu chinthana paras sathatham bHavEyam<\/em>\u201d [yathirAja vimsathi].<\/p>\n<p><strong>From srI u.vE. thirumalai nallAn chakravarthy rAmakrishNa iyengAr\u2019s \u2018amudha virundhu\u2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;idam&#8217; could refer both to this world and the other world (srIvaikuNtam). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/a>&#8216;s fame is spread in both this world and the other world.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>&#8216;s nature is to protect; <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jIvAthmA<\/a>&#8216;s nature is to be a recipient of that protection; this gyAnam is fully understood mainly by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/a>; no body else in any place seem to have understood as much as understood by him in this world (svarUpa gyAnam);<\/p>\n<p>Now, are there anyone in parama padham who have such clear knowledge like him? Even though the AthmAs there have got clear knowledge, they did not get such gyAnam from out of this world that creates darkness in mind. So since even while living in this world <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a> got such knowledge, so how can others there be equal to him?<\/p>\n<p>How about <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> who is the lord of both the worlds? Does his knowledge equal that of this <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a>? No, because since there is no one who can protect Him, he cannot fully understand the meaning of this knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>So, only this <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a>&#8216;s fame (of being subservient) is spread in all the worlds.<\/p>\n<p>idam &#8211; place of stay &#8211; In <a href=\"http:\/\/thiruvekka.koyil.org\/\">thiruvekkA<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> stayed in the place shown by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AzhvAr<\/a>. Such fame.<\/p>\n<p>idam &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>, from His places of Uragam, pAdagam, <a href=\"http:\/\/thiruvekka.koyil.org\/\">thiruvekkA<\/a>, came and stayed in the heart of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p>idam koNda kIrththi &#8211; can be attributed to <a href=\"http:\/\/thirumazhisai.koyil.org\/\">thirumazhisai<\/a>; when dhEvas wanted to know a best place where they could go and do noble deeds, the scale tipped to the side of thirumazhisai with all other places kept on the other plate of the scale.<\/p>\n<p>am poR pAdham &#8211; pon : gold.\u00a0 A golden vessel would stay usable as is even if any kind of people touch it; similarly <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>&#8216;s divine feet can be reached by anyone.
