anRich chevidO? ananthalO?<\/em><br \/><em> Emapperum thuyil mandhirappattALO<\/em><br \/><em> mAmAyan mAdhavan vaikunthan enRu enRu<\/em><br \/><em> nAmam palavum navinRElOr empAvAi<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Word by Word Meaning<\/h3>\n<p>thU maNi mAdaththu &#8211; In the house with naturally good ornamental stones embedded in them<br \/>viLakku eriya &#8211; with sacred lamps glowing<br \/>chuRRum &#8211; in all the places,<br \/>dhUpam kamazha &#8211; and with scented smoke spreading around,<br \/>mAmAn magaLE &#8211; O daughter of (my) uncle<br \/>kaN vaLarum &#8211; who is sleeping<br \/>thuyil aNai mEl &#8211; on the bed (that makes one who lies down on it to sleep),<br \/>thiRavAi &#8211; please do open<br \/>maNik kadhavam thAL &#8211; the bolt of the door that is made of ornamental stones;<br \/>mAmIr &#8211; O aunt!<br \/>avaLai ezhuppIrO &#8211; please wake her up;<br \/>un magaL thAn &#8211; is your daughter<br \/>UmaiyO &#8211; dumb so cannot speak?<br \/>anRi &#8211; or,<br \/>sevidO &#8211; deaf so cannot hear?<br \/>ananthalO &#8211; (or) just sleeping (due to tiredness)?<br \/>Emap pattALO &#8211; (or) is she being restricted\/prevented (to come out)<br \/>perum thuyil mandhirap pattALO &#8211; (or) under control of a spell that makes her sleep for a long time?<br \/>mAmAyan &#8211; He who possesses unfathomable abilities<br \/>mAdhavan &#8211; nAthan (husband) of lakshmI<br \/>vaikunthan enRu enRu &#8211; srI vaikunta nAthan, and similar and more<br \/>nAmam palavum navinRu &#8211; we chanted several of such divine names; (still your daughter is not waking up!?)<\/p>\n<h3>Simple Translation<\/h3>\n<p><strong>thUmaNi mAdhaththu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using the jewels which did not have any flaw to begin with, which did not have to go through the process of removal of flaws; like the difference between a samsAri who removed that samsAram and got mukthi, and those nithya sUris (like <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/senai-mudhaliar\/\">vishvaksEnar<\/a>, garudAzhvAn) who did not have the smell of samsAram to begin with; The palace\/room embedded with such flawless jewels;\u00a0 (krishNan would use the flawless jewels for pirAtti&#8217;s palaces, and for decorating other places He would keep the ones that had had flaws and then were cleaned; it implies here that the gOpikA sleeping is also a favorite of krishNan).<\/p>\n<p>They are praising the house of this devotee; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kUrathAzhvAn<\/a> said, &#8220;if one thinks great of other srIvaishnavas&#8217; houses, that would help us go in the right path (to our destiny) .<\/p>\n<p><strong>chuRRum viLakku eriya<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She has lit lamps in all the places where krishNan would walk with her holding her hands;<\/p>\n<p>eriya \u2013 while the lamps (and our hearts) are not lighted (because of separation from krishNan), here she is, sleeping surrounded by auspicious lamps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thUbam kamazha<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With wonderful fragrance (which is soft and does not irritate the eyes) also surrounding her. While we are not able to enjoy any good fragrance (due to separation), how is it that you are able to relax with all these around you?<\/p>\n<p><strong>thuyil aNai mEl kaN vaLarum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While our beds feel like heated surface for us, you are feeling so comfortable sleeping in your bed as if krishNan is with you; like iLaiya perumAL (lakshmaNan in forest) we are not sleeping, and you are sleeping so nicely;<\/p>\n<p>When it is krishNan who has to come and rescue us, why are these gOpikAs getting anxiety \u2013 was the state of mind of the gOpikA inside; when krishNan is the <em>purushArththam<\/em> (upEyam \/ goal \/ one to reach) why is she being lazy lying in the bed \u2013 was the stance of the gOpikAs outside.<\/p>\n<p>kaN vaLarum &#8211; they are using gentle\/sophisticated words to say that she is sleeping; that is the respectful way to address those who are involved in bhagavath vishayam;\u00a0 when <em>nambiyERu-thiru-udaiyAr-dhAsar<\/em> left for paramapadham, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nanjIyar<\/a> said we should use appropriate phrases about this depending on how they lived &#8211; in case of those who were deeply involved in bhagavath-kainkaryam, we should say &#8216;reached thiruvadi&#8217;; for those who were focused on bhAgavatha-kainkaryam, we should say &#8216;ascended to thiru-nAdu&#8217;; in case of those who were focused on AchArya-kainkaryam, we should say &#8216;reached AchAryan thiruvadi&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAmAn magaLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> wishes to have the gOpikAs of thiruvAyppAdi as Her relatives (<strong>translator\u2019s note<\/strong>: <em>srIvaishnavargaLaik kaNdAl bandhukkaLai kaNdAR pOlEyum<\/em> \u2013 srIvachana bhushaNam. <em>\u0bb8\u0bcd\u0bb0\u0bc0\u0bb5\u0bc8\u0bb7\u0bcd\u0ba3\u0bb5\u0bb0\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bb3\u0bc8\u0b95\u0bcd \u0b95\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bbe\u0bb2\u0bcd \u0baa\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bc1\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bb3\u0bc8\u0b95\u0bcd \u0b95\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bbe\u0bb1\u0bcd \u0baa\u0bcb\u0bb2\u0bc7\u0baf\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd<\/em> &#8211; \u0bb8\u0bcd\u0bb0\u0bc0\u0bb5\u0b9a\u0ba8\u0baa\u0bc2\u0bb7\u0ba3\u0bae\u0bcd); <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> a small brahmin girl in <a href=\"http:\/\/srivilliputhur.koyil.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">srIvillipuththUr<\/a> is calling the cowherd girl who lived in the north in thiruvAyppAdi and that too in a different yugam several tens of thousands of years ago; being included in the group of bhAgavathAs who played and lived with krishNan is how She wants to be.<\/p>\n<p>==&gt; AzhvAr: By mAmAn magaLE, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> is referring to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/a>. Similar to &#8220;<em>thUmaNi mAdaththuch chuRRum viLakku eriya<\/em>&#8220;, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhvAr<\/a> in his nAnmugan thiruvandhAdhi says &#8220;<em>en madhikku viNNellAm uNdO vilai<\/em>&#8220;, &#8220;<em>gyAnamAgi gyAyiRAgi<\/em>&#8220;. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/16\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thirumazhisai AzhwAr <\/a>had sung &#8220;<em>mAdhavanai<\/em>&#8220;, and &#8220;<em>vaikunthach chelavanAr<\/em>&#8220;, and <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> also similarly &#8220;<em>mAmAyan, mAdhavan, vaikunthan<\/em>&#8221; in this pAsuram.<\/p>\n<p>The gOpikA from inside says &#8220;You open the door yourselves and enter my house&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>maNik kadhavam thAL thiravAi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The gem crystals are so bright that we cannot see the lock of the door. So you get up and open the door&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(Only AchAryan can open and bring out our gyAnam; we go to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn <\/a>through the AchAryan only)<\/p>\n<p>The gOpikA&#8217;s mother who is also sitting inside asks her daughter &#8220;why are you being quiet when they are calling you for this long?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAmIr! avaLai ezhuppIrO!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hearing this, the gOpikAs ask from outside, &#8220;mAmIr! (dear aunt!) would you please wake her up?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>srIvaishNavan looks to serve not only <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a>, not only His devotees, but also devotees of devotees. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> is calling the gOpikA&#8217;s mother as mAmi to gain relationship not only with the gOpikA but also with her mother.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, her mother might have felt bad for being addressed as mAmi &#8211; she would have like to be addressed as an adiyAr (devotee) &#8211; this is similar to the following from aithIhyam:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/23\/thirumangai-azhwar\/\">thirumangai AzhvAr<\/a> in &#8216;<em>kaLvan kol<\/em>&#8216; pAsuram where he is in nAyikA bhAvam (considering himself as girl-lover of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>), leaves her mother and goes off with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>; so her mother cries out that her daughter (AzhvAr) left her considering her relationship as a mother only and not as His devotee. So she preferred not the relationship name but being referred to as a devotee. So <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kUraththAzhvan<\/a>&#8216;s wife ANdAL used to refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/23\/thirumangai-azhwar\/\">thirumangai AzhvAr<\/a> as &#8216;<em>vettimaiyar<\/em>&#8216; (one who talks rough); and she would refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr <\/a>as &#8216;kOyil aNNar&#8217; (which is related to 100 thadA akkAra adisil that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> presented to thirumAlirunchOlai azhagar based on the wish of <a href=\"http:\/\/srivilliputhur.koyil.org\/\">srIvilliputhUr<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a>, and when she came out of archai to thank <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> for that, she called <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> as kOyil aNNar (brother from srIrangam)). So when <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kUraththAzhvAn<\/a>&#8216;s wife ANdAL referred to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> as kovil aNNar, emperumAnAr felt sad and said, &#8220;Am I not a devotee? You are calling me with a relationship name of &#8216;aNNar&#8217;, because of which <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/20\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhvAr<\/a>&#8216;s daugther also might forget about me in the name of relationship.<\/p>\n<p>The gOpikA is still not getting up, so..<\/p>\n<p><strong>un magaL thAn UmaiyO?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Is your daughter dumb that she cannot respond to our requests? Is krishNan keeping her busy?<\/p>\n<p><strong>anRich chevidO?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>a dumb could at least hear us and come open the door, so, is it that she did not even hear us as she could be a deaf?<\/p>\n<p><strong>ananthalO?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>or did she play with krishNan for a long time and got tired and only now she lied down on her bed?<\/p>\n<p>==&gt; (Above three relate to asking whether she is not getting ready for vAk, mAnasa, and kAyika kainkaryams).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emap perum thuyil mandhirap pattALO?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>did some one (you) put protection for her to not be able to go out?<\/p>\n<p>Or did <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a> put some spell (manthram) powder (\u0b9a\u0bca\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bc1\u0baa\u0bcd \u0baa\u0bca\u0b9f\u0bbf) on her to get her to go behind him?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is not working. Please say some thiru nAmams to wake her up&#8221; says the mother.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We say a lot of thiru nAmams&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Good, what are those thiru nAmams?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are..&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAmAyan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With His surprising sEshtithams (activities\/mischief) He got all the innocent gOpikAs of thiruvAyppAdi for Himself<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAdhavan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The husband of pirAtti, to show His kindness\/to-not-look-at-our-mistakes, is here in AyppAdi.\u00a0 He might have done gurukulam (school) to learn these qualities from thAyar.<\/p>\n<p>When pirAtti is around, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a> is even more kind to us; chakravarthy thirumagan did not kill anyone when pirAtti was near Him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vaikunthan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The creator of all the worlds; with the place (vaikuntam) fit for such a <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a>; not only gOpikAs, all the men also wish to be subservient to Him.<\/p>\n<p>vaikunthan mAdhavan mAmAyan: A <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a> with such greatness has made him easily available to you dear mAmAn magaLE!<\/p>\n<p>vaikunthan mAmAyan mAdhavan: With the names announcing His greatness, the names announcing his kindness\/simplicity, and between the two the one who stole the hearts of the cowherd gOpikAs<\/p>\n<p><strong>enRu enRu nAmam palavum navinRu (in these ways, reciting so many of His names)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>mAmAyan enRu, mAdhavan enRu, vaikunthan enRu &#8211; Covering the range of three sahasra nAmams (1000 names of Him).<\/p>\n<p>Also read as: nAmam palavum navinRu, mAmIr avaLai ezhuppIrO!
