This could also be treated as the words of the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s mother who is lamenting the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>mANikkangoNdu kurangu eRivoththu iruLOdu mutti<br>\n<\/em><em>ANipponnanna sudar padumAlai ulagaLandha<br>\n<\/em><em>mANikkamE en maradhagamE maRRoppAraiyillA<br>\n<\/em><em>ANipponnE adiyEn adi Avi adaikkalamE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>kurangu<\/em> \u2013 monkey<br>\n<em>mANikkam<\/em> \u2013 gem [carbuncle]<br>\n<em>koNdu<\/em> \u2013 taking it<br>\n<em>eRivu oththu<\/em> \u2013 equivalent to throwing<br>\n<em>iruLOdu<\/em> \u2013 with darkness<br>\n(coming)<br>\n<em>mutti<\/em> \u2013 getting close<br>\n<em>ANipon anna<\/em> \u2013 like a distinguished gold<br>\n<em>sudar<\/em> \u2013 radiant sUriyan ([sun]<br>\n<em>padum<\/em> \u2013 suffering<br>\n<em>mAlai<\/em> \u2013 dusk (appeared)<br>\n<em>ulagu<\/em> \u2013 worlds<br>\n<em>aLandha<\/em> \u2013 one who seized<br>\n<em>mANikkamE<\/em> \u2013 Oh one who is virtuous!<br>\n<em>en<\/em> \u2013 being my lord<br>\n<em>maradhagamE<\/em> \u2013 one who is invigorating like an emerald gem!<br>\n<em>maRRu<\/em> \u2013 over and above<br>\n<em>oppArai<\/em> \u2013 those who are equal<br>\n<em>illA<\/em> \u2013 ohe who does not have<br>\n<em>ANipponnE<\/em> \u2013 Oh one who is like distinguished gold!<br>\n<em>adiyEn<\/em> \u2013 this servitor, my<br>\n<em>adi<\/em> \u2013 being your servitor<br>\n<em>Avi<\/em> \u2013 vital air<br>\n<em>adaikkalam<\/em> \u2013 is to be protected (by you)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh one who measured all the worlds! Oh one who is virtuous and is like an invigorating emerald gem to me! Oh one who is like distinguished gold, without anyone being your equal! Just like a monkey threw a carbuncle gem, the dusk time has thrown out sUriyan who is like eminent gold. This <em>AthmA<\/em> (soul) of mine, your servitor, has to be protected by you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>mANikkam koNdu kurangu eRivoththu<\/strong> \u2013 Just like a monkey would throw a gemstone of carbuncle. A monkey, without knowing the great value of a gemstone, throws it out such that it reaches a place where it will be of no use to anyone. Alternatively, being an animal, it throws the gemstone where it cannot be used even by the monkey itself and the gem remains losing its shine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>iruLOdu . . . <\/strong>\u2013 coming with darkness. The evening time appeared, destroying sUriyan who is like an incomparable, eminent, reddish gold. Just like the carbuncle gem was destroyed by the monkey, sUriyan was destroyed by darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of merely speaking about evening, she now speaks about sarvESvaran\u2019s great activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ulagaLandha mANikkamE<\/strong> \u2013 he is one who pushed aside entities such as mahAbali when indhra et al, who think that they are the protectors, withdrew, being unable to fight with such mahAbali. He is an entity who is virtuous, who measured the worlds which are full of forests and mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>mANikkamE<\/strong> \u2013 he transformed himself though he is priceless and inestimable [for the sake of indhra et al].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>en maradhagamE<\/strong> \u2013 he is invigorating when embraced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>maRRoppAraiyillA ANipponnE<\/strong> \u2013 he is eminent without any simile to compare him with &#8211; like distinguished gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>adiyEn<\/strong> \u2013 AzhwAr calls himself as <em>adiyEn<\/em> [servitor] manifesting his enjoyability [by sarvESvaran].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>adiyAvi<\/strong> \u2013 If these are the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s words, this would refer to the <em>Athmavasthu<\/em> (her soul) which is subservient to sarvESvaran. It is so much subservient to sarvESvaran that even offering it to him would tantamount to being an act in excess [it belongs to sarvESvaran; hence there is no need even to offer it to him]. It is to be offered as soon as one is bewildered; once offered, it would be so severed from him\/her that it would make him\/her shrink from thinking \u201cI offered an entity of mine to him\u201d. It will be similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/02\/sthothra-rathnam-53\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"14160\">sthOthra rathnam 53<\/a> \u201c<em>athavA kinnu samarppayAmi thE<\/em>\u201d (What can I offer you?) and <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/11\/thiruvaimozhi-7-9-10-udhavik-kaimmaru\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22975\">thiruvAimozhi 7-9-10<\/a> \u201c<em>uRReNNil adhuvum aRRu AngavanRannadhu<\/em>\u201d (if I wanted to call it as mine, even that <em>Athmavasthu<\/em> happened to be his). The vyAkyAthA (periyavAchchAn piLLai, commentator for this prabandham) narrates an incident when kUraththAzhwAn was sent by bhagavdh rAmAnujar to thirukkOttiyUr nambi (rAmAnujar\u2019s AchAryan) to find out whether it is <em>gyAthruthvam<\/em> (being with knowledge about matters relating to sarvESvaran) or <em>SEshathvam<\/em> (being a servitor of sarvESvaran) which is <em>AthmasvarUpam<\/em> (the true nature of AthmA). nambi mercifully informed kUraththAzhwAn \u201cOh my child!
