These fruits resemble the complexion of his divine form and would help her to lessen her distress in separation. Looking at those fruits, the <em>nAyaki<\/em> sustains herself. Her mother notices this and chides her. The <em>nAyaki<\/em> tells her friends about this excessive act of her mother\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>UzhigaLAy ulagEzhum uNdAn enRilam pazham kaNdu<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Azhi kaLAm pazhavaNNam enRERku ahdhE koNdu annai<br \/>\n<\/em><em>nAzhivaLO enRum gyAlam uNdAn vaNNam solliRu enRum<br \/>\n<\/em><em>thOzhigaLO uraiyIr emmai ammanai sUzhginRavE<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>UzhigaLAy<\/em> \u2013 being the controller of all the worlds ruled by time<br \/>\n<em>Ezhu ulagum<\/em> \u2013 (during deluge) all the seven worlds<br \/>\n<em>uNdAn<\/em> \u2013 ate (to keep them in his stomach and protect them)<br \/>\n<em>enRilam<\/em> \u2013 we did not say that<br \/>\n<em>pazham kaNdu<\/em> \u2013 looking at the fruit<br \/>\n<em>kaLAppazha vaNNam<\/em> \u2013 the colour of berry fruit<br \/>\n<em>Azhi<\/em> \u2013like the colour of ocean<br \/>\n<em>enRERku<\/em> \u2013 to me who said so<br \/>\n<em>ahdhE koNdu<\/em> \u2013 presuming another meaning for that word<br \/>\n<em>annai<\/em> \u2013 (my) mother<br \/>\n<em>ivaL<\/em> \u2013 this girl<br \/>\n<em>nAzh<\/em> \u2013 is clever<br \/>\n<em>enRum<\/em> \u2013 saying so<br \/>\n<em>gyAlam<\/em> \u2013 earth<br \/>\n<em>uNdAn<\/em> \u2013 one who swallowed<br \/>\n<em>vaNNam<\/em> \u2013 complexion<br \/>\n<em>solliRRu<\/em> \u2013 said<br \/>\n<em>enRum<\/em> \u2013 saying so<br \/>\n<em>thOzhigaLO<\/em> \u2013 Oh my friends!<br \/>\n<em>emmai<\/em> \u2013 regarding me<br \/>\n<em>ammanai<\/em> \u2013 mother<br \/>\n<em>sUzhginRa<\/em> \u2013 saying it repeatedly<br \/>\n(remedy for this)<br \/>\n<em>uraiyIr<\/em> \u2013 please tell<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh friends! I had not revealed the name of my <em>nAyakan<\/em> explicitly by saying \u201cHe is the lord of all the worlds ruled by time and he protected the seven worlds in his stomach during deluge\u201d. Instead, looking at the colour of berry fruits, I had said \u201cThe colour of ocean is the colour of this fruit\u201d. My mother, who listened to my words, said \u201cThis girl is very clever! She is referring to the complexion of the one who swallowed all the worlds\u201d Please tell me a remedy since my mother is accusing me repeatedly and hurting me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UzhigaLAy Ezhulagum uNDAn enRilam<\/strong> \u2013 Had I said \u201cDuring deluge, he swallowed and protected the seven worlds\u201d, I could be accused of talking about him (sarvESvaran). However, I had not said \u201cHe is the controller of all entities such as time etc; he is the great benefactor who swallowed all these entities during deluge\u201d. Those who say that sarvESvaran does not have auspicious qualities will give a different meaning to the words <em>sathyam, gyAnam <\/em>etc which are mentioned in thaiththirIya upanishath Anandhavallee \u201c<em>sathyam gyAnam anantham brahma<\/em>\u201d (the supreme entity is permanent, omniscient and unlimited). In the same way, the <em>nAyaki<\/em> too feels happy to praise the greatness of his auspicious qualities by saying indirectly about his complexion etc. She has a right to say this. Her mother too has a right to deny what the <em>nAyaki<\/em> had meant. The right for the <em>nAyaki<\/em> comes from the basis that she cannot remain quiet about someone who has carried out a beneficial act for her; one with intellect cannot keep quiet. Her mother, on the other hand, felt that the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s thoughts would torment her later.\u00a0 She thought that deep involvement with the qualities of a person would lead to worries later on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pazham kaNdu<\/strong> \u2013 when one looks at an entity in this world, it is natural to identify it by its name. Whether it is <em>ghatam<\/em> (pot) or <em>patam<\/em> (cloth), it is called by its name. Is identifying a material by its name, an offence?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Azhi kaLAm pazhavaNNam enRERku<\/strong> \u2013 I merely said that the colour of the berry fruit is similar to the colour of the ocean. However, my mother presumed \u201cShe is talking about the one who has the complexion of ocean [sarvESvaran]\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>ahdhE koNdu<\/strong> \u2013 Instead of accepting what I had said, she thought that there was an inner meaning to it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>annai<\/strong> \u2013 was she a mother right from the time of her birth? It appears that she had not grown up to the stage of a young girl (before becoming a mother). If there is a fault, it could be chided. But when there is no fault, is it proper to see as to who is controlling and who is being controlled?<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAzhivaLO enRum<\/strong> \u2013 we are seeing the fruits and speaking about them. Does she not understand what I am saying? Why is she taking a different meaning for it? Is she having a skill in talking meaninglessly? <em>nAzh<\/em> refers to skill.<\/p>\n<p>What is the greatness of the <em>nAyaki<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p><strong>gyAlam uNdAn vaNNam solliRRu ennum<\/strong> \u2013 sarvESvaran had kept all the worlds during the time of deluge, inside his stomach to protect them. Reminiscing that quality, my daughter could not bear separation from that sarvESvaran.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thOzhigaLO uraiyIr<\/strong> \u2013 Oh friends! Don\u2019t you stand with me in my happy moments and sad moments? You are not like my mother.<\/p>\n<p><strong>emmai ammanai sUzhginRavE<\/strong> \u2013 just like a snake in the house will torment even when it is not biting, whenever someone comes into the house or leaves the house, my mother is tormenting me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>sUzhginRa<\/strong> \u2013 my mother is exaggerating things three times. While I am seeing something and speaking about the same thing, my mother torments me saying that there is some other meaning to what I am saying.
