The <em>nAyakan<\/em> came immediately and looked at her with comforting eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>vaNNam sivandhuLa vAnAdamarum kuLir vizhiya<br \/>\n<\/em><em>thaNmen kamalaththadam pOl polindhana thAm ivaiyO<br \/>\n<\/em><em>kaNNan thirumAL thirumugam thannOdum kAdhal seydhERku<br \/>\n<\/em><em>eNNam pugundhu adiyEnOdu ikkAlam irukkinRavE<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>vaNNam<\/em> \u2013 due to colour<br \/>\n<em>sivandhuLa<\/em> \u2013 becoming red<br \/>\n<em>vAn nAdu<\/em> \u2013 nithyasUris who are in paramAkASam (SrIvaikuNtam)<br \/>\n<em>amarum<\/em> \u2013 to sustain<br \/>\n<em>kuLir<\/em> \u2013 refreshing<br \/>\n<em>vizhiya<\/em> \u2013 having glance<br \/>\n<em>thaN<\/em> \u2013 being cool<br \/>\n<em>mel<\/em> \u2013 being soft<br \/>\n<em>kamalam<\/em> \u2013 lotus flowers which have blossomed<br \/>\n<em>thadam pOla<\/em> \u2013 like a pond<br \/>\n<em>polindhana<\/em> \u2013 being splendorous<br \/>\n<em>ivaidham<\/em> \u2013 these divine eyes<br \/>\n<em>thirumAL<\/em> \u2013 being SrIya:pathi (consort of SrI mahAlakshmi)<br \/>\n<em>kaNNan<\/em> \u2013 purushOththaman (best among all chEthanas), who is obedient to his followers<br \/>\n<em>thirumugam thannOdu<\/em> \u2013 with the divine face<br \/>\n(in that matter)<br \/>\n<em>kAdhal seydhERku<\/em> \u2013 one who is desirous, my<br \/>\n<em>eNNam<\/em> \u2013 with that intention<br \/>\n<em>pugundhu<\/em> \u2013\u00a0 entered [on their own]<br \/>\n<em>adiyEnodu<\/em> \u2013 with me, the servitor<br \/>\n<em>ikkAlam<\/em> \u2013 during the present time<br \/>\n<em>irukkinRavE<\/em> \u2013 are present<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The eyes [of sarvESvaran] are reddish in colour, are the sustaining force for nithyasUris who are in SrIvaikuNtam due to their refreshingly cool glance and are splendorous like cool, soft lotus flowers which have blossomed in a pond. These eyes entered my heart on their own, when I was with the intention of desiring the divine face of Sriya:pathi, the obedient kaNNan, and are present without leaving me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>vaNNam sivandhuLa<\/strong> \u2013 the divine eyes of sarvESvaran are reddish as a natural corollary of not having seen AzhwAr. With this term <em>vaNNam sivandhuLa<\/em>, it is opined that these were like this even earlier. The distress of separation is similar to what SrI rAma had said in SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 66-10 \u201c<em>najIvEyam kshaNamapi<\/em>\u201d (I cannot live even for a moment (without sIthAppirAtti)). The implication is that the reddishness in the eyes which happened due to not seeing AzhwAr, has now gone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAnAdu amarum kuLir vizhiya<\/strong> \u2013 those in <em>thripAdhvibhUthi<\/em> (SrIvaikuNtam which is three times bigger than<em> leelAvibhUthi<\/em>, the materialistic realm) sustain themselves through these divine eyes. The divine eyes are cool, so that they [nithyasUris] could sustain themselves. Sustenance for them is through eating, dressing and living, because of the divine eyes. They are <em>dhArakam, pOshakam<\/em> and<em> bhOgyam<\/em> (water as sustaining material, food as nourishment and betel leaves as enjoyment) for nithyasUris.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><strong>thaN . . . <\/strong>\u2013 the divine eyes appear like a pond whose surface is full of just blossomed lotus flowers which are cool and soft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAmivaiyO<\/strong> \u2013 just as it has been mentioned in chAndhOgya upanishath 1-6-7 \u201c<em>thasya yathA kapyAsam puNdarIkam Evam akshiNI<\/em>\u201d, we have heard through those who recite vEdhams that sarvESvaran\u2019s divine eyes are like just blossomed lotus flowers. Would they be like these?<\/p>\n<p><strong>kaNNan thirumAL<\/strong> \u2013 should be rearranged as <em>thirumAL kaNNan<\/em> \u2013 Sriya:pathi, the consort of SrI mahAlakshmi, who is like an obedient attendant of his followers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thirumugam thannOdum kAdhal seydhERku<\/strong> \u2013 for me who had desired that such <em>nAyakan<\/em> should come with his beautiful, divine face and glance at me with his cool divine eyes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>eNNam pugundhu<\/strong> \u2013 entering, as I had intended. Alternatively, considering my desire as his own.<\/p>\n<p><strong>adiyEnodu<\/strong> \u2013 AzhwAr says as in jithanthE SlOkam 1 \u201c<em>jitham<\/em>\u201d (success to you). The true nature of the word <em>aham<\/em> (I) appears to be <em>adiyEn<\/em> (your servitor). The term <em>adiyEn<\/em> has two meanings: AzhwAr says that he has lost out to the beauty of the divine eyes and has become a servant. <em>adiyEn<\/em> also refers to the natural servitude (of jIvAthmA). What is the <em>pramANam<\/em> (authentic source) for saying that servitude is the natural quality of jIvAthma? thaiththirIya upanishath nArAyaNavalli 5-1 says \u201c<em>OmithyAthmAnam yunjItha<\/em>\u201d (one should meditate on AthmA, by reciting the praNava manthram, <em>Om<\/em>) as well as in the vEdhic saying <em>OnkArO bhagavAn vishNu<\/em> \u2013 vishNu is identified by the manthram <em>Om<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ikkAlam<\/strong> \u2013 I do not know if the reason for the benefit that I had attained [of his divine eyes entering me] had happened earlier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>irukkinRavE<\/strong> \u2013 just as it has been said in chAdhOgya upanishath 8-15 \u201c<em>na cha punarAvarthathE <\/em>\u201d (those who reach SrIvaikuNtam do not return), it appears as if mOksham has been attained. It appeared that he would not separate again from her.
