The divine form established itself in a superior part, the divine eyes. AzhwAr describes as to how the divine eyes tortured him such that he could not move away from them. As an example of how each part reminded of another and finally the whole, the vyAkyAthA cites SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 36-4 \u201c<em>gruhIthvA prEkshamAnA<\/em>\u201d (taking hold [of that ring] and looking at it, sIthAppirAtti thought of the finger over which the ring had been placed, and felt as if she had reached her husband).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>neelaththadavarai mEl puNdarIga nedum thadangaL<br>\n<\/em><em>pOlap polindhu emakku ellAvidaththavum pongu munnIr<br>\n<\/em><em>gyAlappirAn visumbukkum pirAn maRRum nallOr pirAn<br>\n<\/em><em>kOlangariya pirAn&nbsp; empirAn kaNNin kOlangaLE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>pongu<\/em> \u2013 agitating<br>\n<em>munnIr<\/em> \u2013 composed of water from three sources, viz from river, from spring and from rain<br>\n<em>gyAlam<\/em> \u2013 for earth<br>\n<em>pirAn<\/em> \u2013 being the benefactor<br>\n<em>visumbukkum<\/em> \u2013 for the people in the upper worlds too<br>\n<em>pirAn<\/em> \u2013 being the benefactor<br>\n<em>maRRum<\/em> \u2013 further<br>\n<em>nallOr<\/em> \u2013 for mukthAthmAs and nithyasUris, who enjoy sarvESvaran\u2019s <em>guNas<\/em> (auspicious qualities)<br>\n<em>pirAn<\/em> \u2013 being the benefactor<br>\n<em>kariya<\/em> \u2013 having a dark bluish complexion<br>\n<em>kOlam<\/em> \u2013 having a divine form<br>\n<em>pirAn<\/em> \u2013 being the benefactor<br>\n<em>empirAn<\/em> \u2013 being the benefactor for me, his<br>\n<em>thadam \u2013 huge<br>\n<\/em><em>kaNNin<\/em> \u2013 eyes\u2019<br>\n<em>kOlangaL<\/em> \u2013 beauty<br>\n<em>neelam<\/em> \u2013 like a bluish gem<br>\n<em>varai mEl<\/em> \u2013 on top of the mountain<br>\n<em>puNdarIgam<\/em> \u2013 of lotus<br>\n<em>nedum<\/em> \u2013 expansive<br>\n<em>thadangaL pOla<\/em> \u2013 like ponds<br>\n<em>polindhu<\/em> \u2013 full of beauty<br>\n<em>emakku<\/em> \u2013 for us<br>\n<em>ellAvidaththavum<\/em> \u2013 at all places<br>\n(were gleaming)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is the benefactor of earth which has three types of agitating water \u2013 water from river, water from spring and water from rain; he is the benefactor of brahmA et al who are in the upper worlds; he is the benefactor of nithyasUris and mukthAthmAs; he has a dark bluish complexion; he is the benefactor for people like me. Such empeurmAn\u2019s beautiful eyes are like a huge pond filled with lotus flowers atop a huge mountain of bluish gem, shining in all the places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>neelaththadavarai mEl<\/strong> \u2013 just as it is said in thirumAlai 2 \u201c<em>pachchai mAmalai pOL mEni<\/em>\u201d (the divine form is like a mountain made of emerald), his divine form is described here as a hill made of bluish gem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>puNdarIga . . .&nbsp; <\/strong>\u2013 his eyes were like huge ponds of lotus flowers which had occupied his entire divine form; his divine form appeared to be full of eyes. The eyes of the beholder would focus on only on those eyes and will not see any other limb. This is something similar to SrI rangarAjasthavam 1-98 \u201c<em>krupayA parayA karishyamANE sakalAngam<\/em>\u201d (the divine eyes of periya perumAL wanted to shower mercy; hence they attempted to change all the limbs of periya perumAL into divine eyes). Those eyes were similar to the ones mentioned in chAndhOgya upanishath 16-7 \u201c<em>thasyayathA kapyAsam puNdarIksham EvamakshiNI<\/em>\u201d (they eyes were similar to lotus flower which has just then blossomed on seeing sUriyan (sUrya)).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>emakku ellAvidaththavum<\/strong> \u2013 those eyes followed everywhere in such a way that there is no place on earth which had not been visited upon. If one were to close the eyes so that one need not see those eyes which torment the beholder, those eyes will enter the beholder\u2019s eyes; they will pervade everywhere. They have come to win me over, in this way. This could be compared with <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/thiruvaimozhi-7-7-1-ezhaiyar-avi\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22467\">thiruvAimozhi 7-7-1<\/a> \u201c<em>sUzhavum thAmarai nANmalar pOl vandhu thOnRum kaNdIr<\/em>\u201d (they will appear from all sides, like just then blossomed lotus flower) as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2019\/05\/thiruvaimozhi-8-9-1-karu-manikka-malai\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"26033\">thiruvAimozhi 8-9-1<\/a> \u201c<em>karumANikka malaimEl maNiththadandhAmaraikkAdugaL pOl<\/em>\u201d (like huge forest of lotus flowers atop a hill of dark carbuncle).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>pongu munnIr gyAlappirAn<\/strong> \u2013 he is one who keeps rendering help to those who are on this earth which is surrounded by agitating oceans which are made up of three types of water \u2013 from rivers, from springs and from rain. As an example of rendering help, the vyAkyAthA cites the instance when he kept the worlds inside his stomach during the time of deluge and protected all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>visumbukkum pirAn<\/strong> \u2013 he is also the controller of dhEvathAs (celestial entities) such as brahmA who had given birth to these worlds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>maRRum nallOr pirAn<\/strong> \u2013 he is the controller of nithyasUris too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>kOlam kariya pirAn<\/strong> \u2013 the divine form of emperumAn is totally subservient to those divine eyes. It is with the divine form that emperumAn subjugates the nithyasUris and makes them bewildered always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>empirAn<\/strong> \u2013 just as he is their lord, he is my lord too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>kaNNin kOlangaLE<\/strong> \u2013 the distinguished eyes of one who is my benefactor.
