The commentator refers to <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/03\/munram-thiruvandhadhi-27\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"19983\">mUnRAm thiruvandhAdhi 27<\/a> \u201c<em>ArE thuyaruzhandhAr . . .<\/em>\u201d (who has suffered even for one day after attaining emperumAn? Who has experienced sorrow like that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>engOlvaLai mudhalAk kaNNan maNNum viNNum aLikkum<br>\n<\/em><em>sengOl vaLaivu viLaivikkum mAl thiRal sEr amarar<br>\n<\/em><em>thangOnudaiya thangOn umbar ellAyavarkkum thangOn<br>\n<\/em><em>nangOn ugakkum thuzhAy enseyyAdhu ini nAnilaththE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>thiRralsEr<\/em> \u2013 being strong<br>\n<em>amarar thangOnudaiya<\/em> \u2013 brahmA who is the lord of dhEvas (indhra et al), his<br>\n<em>thangOn<\/em> \u2013 being the distinguished lord<br>\n<em>umbar<\/em> \u2013 being great<br>\n<em>ellAyavarkkum<\/em> \u2013 other nithyasUris (permanent dwellers of SrIvaikuNtam)<br>\n<em>thangOn<\/em> \u2013 being the distinguished lord<br>\n<em>nam kOn<\/em> \u2013 being our lord, sarvESvaran<br>\n<em>ugakkum<\/em> \u2013 pleased with<br>\n<em>thuzhAy<\/em> \u2013 divine thuLasi<br>\n<em>kaNNan<\/em> \u2013 kaNNan\u2019s<br>\n<em>maNNum<\/em> \u2013 bhUmi (earth)<br>\n<em>viNNum<\/em> \u2013 upper worlds<br>\n<em>aLikkum<\/em> \u2013 protecting<br>\n<em>sengOl<\/em> \u2013 for the order<br>\n<em>em<\/em> \u2013 our girl<br>\n<em>kOl<\/em> &#8211; being beautiful<br>\n<em>vaLai mudhalA<\/em> \u2013 for her bangles<br>\n<em>vaLaivu<\/em> \u2013 salutations<br>\n<em>viLaivikkum<\/em> \u2013 did not offer<br>\n<em>ini<\/em> \u2013 hereafter<br>\n<em>nAnilaththu<\/em> \u2013 on the earth, which is of four types [of lands]<br>\n<em>enseyyAdhu<\/em> \u2013 what will it not do?<br>\n<em>Al<\/em> \u2013 how amazing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is the lord of brahmA who is the lord of all the dhEvas who are more powerful than human beings; he is the lord of nithyasUris who dwell in paramapadham (SrIvaikuNtam); he is the lord of people like us. What is the divine garland of thuLasi, which is worn with pleasure by such sarvESvaran, doing? It is not offering salutations to my daughter who is wearing beautiful bangles, and who is under the protection of sarvESvaran\u2019s orders, which rule both this world (earth) and upper worlds. What else will this divine thuLasi not do on this earth which is of four types?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>engOl vaLai mudhala<\/strong> \u2013 it is said that this pAsuram has been sung by the <em>nAyaki<\/em>. Some others will say that it is the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s friend who had sung while yet others will say that it is the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s mother who had sung it. Since the pAsuram starts with the words <em>engOlvaLai<\/em> (my bangles) <em>nayaki<\/em> becomes the subject. Elsewhere in the vyAkyAnam the words \u201cIf one attains such a helpless woman in samsAram\u201d are seen, indicating that the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s friend who has sung the pAsuram. The previous pAsuram has been sung by the <em>nAyaki<\/em>\u2019s mother and hence it could be taken that she has sung this pAsuram too. If the pAsuram is taken as the words of the <em>nAyaki<\/em>, the meaning for this term will be \u201cShould the <em>nAyakan<\/em> manifest his independent nature by destroying my soul?\u201d If it is taken as the words of the mother, the meaning will be \u201cTo kill my daughter\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>kaNNan<\/strong> \u2013 The sceptre of emperumAn is conducting both this world and the upper worlds properly, protecting them. However, the divine thuLasi is causing harm to such righteous conduct of the sceptre. What is causing the harm? . . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>nam kOn ugakkum thuzhAy<\/strong> \u2013 the divine thuLasi, which is much liked by sarvESvaran, is doing this. If one gets this helpless girl in samsAram . . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>en seyyAdhu<\/strong> \u2013 sarvESvaran is there to protect both this world and the upper worlds. But instead of protecting, if he himself issues orders contrary to that, who is there to protect my girl?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>thiRal sEr . . . .<\/strong> \u2013 he is the lord of brahmA who in turn is the lord of dhEvas such as the mighty indhra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>umbar . . . <\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 the distinguished dhEvas who are spoken of as <em>ayarvaRum amarargaL<\/em> \u2013 nithyasUris who do not have any bewilderment at all.
