previous (ennaip puviyil)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>pAsuram 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>avathArikai (introduction)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>\u2019s introduction) \u2013 Thus explaining about <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> accepting him under his lotus feet fully, as he started to recite his names as he had planned earlier, and increased his desire in doing so, he thought about some of the learned people who only look at the mistakes in the formation of the poetry, he wanted to avoid backing out from reciting due to such people, and convinces himself to continue reciting his names.<\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/08\/pillai-lokam-jiyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piLLai lOkam jIyar<\/a>\u2019s introduction) \u2013 In the previous pAsuram he happily sang that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> accepted him under his lotus feet out of his own mercy; in this one, encouraged by the desire towards <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>, he wanted to sing about his qualities, he thinks that if those who find only faults would say wrong things about this then such words would be ornaments for him, and that those who understand the beauty of his affection would see the goodness of the prabandham.<\/p>\n<p><em>enakku uRRa selvam irAmAnusan enRu isaiyagillA<\/em><br \/>\n<em>manakkuRRa mAndhar pazhikkil pugazh<strong>,<\/strong> avan manniya sIr<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thankkuRRa anbar avan thirunAmangaL saRRum en pA<\/em><br \/>\n<em>inakkuRRam kANagillAr paththi Eyndha iyalvidhu enRE\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211; 5<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/yourlisten.com\/sarathy.thothathri\/ramanusa-nurranthadhi-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pAsuram <\/a><\/h3>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/yourlisten.com\/embed\/html5?17500745\" frameborder=\"0\" style='width:100%;'><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word by word meaning (given by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>)<\/strong><br \/>\nmAndhar \u2013 people (who)<br \/>\nmanakkuRRam \u2013 having faults in their mind<br \/>\nisaiyagillA \u2013 (who are) not accepting\/thinking that<br \/>\nirAmAnusan enRu \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> is<br \/>\nselvam \u2013 the wealth<br \/>\nenakku \u2013 for us<br \/>\nuRRa \u2013 as per our nature,<br \/>\npazhikkil \u2013 (if they) faulted (the prabandham \/ its grammar)<br \/>\npugazh \u2013 it is a praise only;<br \/>\nuRRa anbar \u2013 those, befitting their greatness, having devotion towards,<br \/>\navan \u2013 his (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s)<br \/>\nmanniya sIr thanakku &#8211; ever present auspicious qualities,<br \/>\nkANagillAr \u2013 would not look at<br \/>\nkuRRam \u2013 the defects, (since they know that)<br \/>\nen \u2013 my<br \/>\npA inam \u2013 collection of poetry (chandhas)<br \/>\nchARRum \u2013 that recites<br \/>\navan \u2013 his<br \/>\nthirunAmangaL \u2013 divine names<br \/>\niyalvu idhu enRu \u2013 is developed<br \/>\npaththiyEyndha \u2013 based on devotion.<br \/>\n<em>(alternatively)<\/em><br \/>\npaththi Eyntha <strong>iyal<\/strong> idhenRu \u2013 <strong>words<\/strong> combined by devotion<\/p>\n<p>Due to their affection towards <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>, due to my devotion, and due to the pAsuram saying <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s names, they would not focus on the defects in the prabandham.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>enakkuRRa selvam<\/strong> \u2013 What is the true wealth? Unlike the wealth described in : \u201c<em>sarIra pathanAvadhi prabhu nishEvaNa ApAdhanAth, abhindhana dhananjaya prasamadham dhanam dhandhanam<\/em>\u201d [<a href=\"https:\/\/guruparamparai.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/05\/vedhanthacharyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vEdhAntharchariAr<\/a>\u2019s vairAgya panchakam-5] (Wealth obtained by serving the rich till one\u2019s body falls on the ground, is the wealth that will quell one\u2019s hunger but causes sorrows) \u2013 that is, the wealth that is not to be had by us, which is a sharp object that destroys the true nature of AthmA, and which would not stay with us at all times, is not the appropriate wealth for us.\u00a0The next two lines of the above slOkam is described as the desired wealth: \u201c<em>dhananjaya vivardhanam dhanam udhUda gOvardhanam, susAdhanam abAdhanam sumanasam samArAdhanam\u201d <\/em>[vairAgya panchakam-5] (The wealth that made Arjuna fulfilled, that wealth which made it possible to lift gOvardhana, which is the ever-present means, and that wealth which fills the good minds with joy is the real good wealth); \u00a0\u2018d<em>hananjaya syandhana bhushaNam dhanam<\/em>\u2019 [vairAgya panchakam -4] [(the black one) which was the ornament of the chariot of arjunan] is the wealth;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018dhanam madhIyam thava pAdha pankajam\u2019<\/em> [ALavandhAr\u2019s sthOthra rathnam -30] (your divine feet is my most desired treasure)\u00a0<em>\u201casthy mE hasthi-sailAgrE vasthu paithAmaham dhanam\u201d <\/em>[vairAgya panchakam 6] (grandfather (brahma) has given me the wealth, which is the one who lives atop the hasthi mountain (dhEvapperumAL who incarnated from the fire of yAgam of brahma)). {here <a href=\"https:\/\/guruparamparai.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/05\/vedhanthacharyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vEdhAnthAchAriar <\/a>uses the word \u2018grandfather\u2019, to imply that such wealth automatically comes to him, the grandchild (by law)) }.<\/p>\n<p>From the above steps, as one would reach the charama parvam (final stage), is the wealth that is AchAryan (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) \u2013 this is the inner meaning on discussion of wealth.\u00a0\u2018<em>gururEva param dhanam\u2019<\/em> [48, Chapter 4 &#8211; guru paddhathi \u2013 of &#8211; prapanna pArijAtham \u2013 by nadAdhUr ammAL] (<strong><em>Only<\/em> <\/strong>guru is the wealth]\u00a0Thus implying that this wealth is higher than <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bhagavan<\/a>; after coming to this stage, one would not consider <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a> as wealth; only the AchAryan would be the true-to-the-nature and established wealth.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>irAmAnusan enRu<\/em><\/strong><strong> \u2013 <\/strong>the wealth that is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmAnujar<\/a>. As said by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>, \u201c<em>thandhai nal thAi thAram thanaiyar perunchelvam enRanakku nIyE ethirAsA\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>[<em>Arththi prabandham -3] <\/em>(father, good mother, spouse, children, big wealth for me are only you, yathirAja!), who have decided that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> is everything for us; \u00a0and as said in \u201c<em>thruNIkrutha virinchAdhi nirankusa vibhUthaya: rAmAnuja padhAmbhOja samAsrayaNa sAlina: <\/em>\u201c [prArththanA panchakam \u2013 by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/kurathazhwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kUraththAzhvAn<\/a>] (One who is dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmAnujar<\/a>\u2019s lotus feet would ignore all the words (of leelA vibhUthi) as a grass\/dust), that is, who have decided that other things\/riches are lower than a grass\/dust, and have concluded that we shall be only praising the qualities of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmAnujar<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p><strong>isaiyagillA manakkuRRa mAndhar \u2013 <\/strong>those well learned people who have poor minds because of not considering such things as above regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmAnujar<\/a>, (and even those who are only in prathama parvam of going to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a> only)<\/p>\n<p><strong>pazhikkil<\/strong> \u2013 (if they find faults); if they would not understand the good qualities, but would always be identifying (as) faults; as said in \u201c<em>vidhyAnyA silpanaipuNam<\/em>\u201d (knowledge other than about <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> is useless), they use useless arguments, and are based on their show of knowledge of doing poetry; those who are lost in mAyavAdha philosophy; \u2018<em>param bhAvam ajAnantha:\u2019 <\/em>(bhagavath gIthA) (they are not going to understand that I have incarnated here), due to the curtain of agyAna surrounding them; they are \u2018<em>mAndhar<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 people; also implies here as being \u2018mAndhi\u2019 \u2013 immersed in thamO guNam (laziness), (lack of bhagavath knowledge); (pArthasArathy emperumAn came as <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>, so He (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) was talking about people not surrendering to him (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>pazhikkil pugazh \u2013 <\/strong>The fault they find is that amudhaAr has forgotten about the karmas that are done for other benefits, like said in (<em>swarga kamO yajEtha) <\/em>(do yagyas for achieving heaven), or other benefits like wealth; if their words are analysed, as krishNan said in gIthA, these people think that such benefits mentioned in sAsthram are the only benefits, and they do not look beyond, and so they would not know me, and so they would not reach me.<\/p>\n<p>So when they fault based on their affinity towards activities that beget other lowly benefits, their faulting would be praise for us; those who are always doing good karmas, pure in body and mind, and those who have gained knowledge of nature of Athma, are still not comparable to someone who has said \u2018saraNam\u2019 to me, says krishNa.<\/p>\n<p>One cannot achieve much by bhakthi yOgam, or gyAnam (knowledge), but can reach me by doing saraNAgathi, says krishNa.\u00a0Now for those who strongly hold on to His divine feet, there would always be a doubt whether they would get Him \u2013 since he is independent, and cannot be forced. (<em>svathanthranai upAyamAgap paRRina pOdhirE ipprasangam thAn uLLadhu \u2013 <\/em>srI vachana bhUshaNam 407);<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the above, for those who have taken devotees&#8217; divine feet as the way to reach Him, there would not be any doubt of achieving that.\u00a0So, if those who do not understand this would fault me, then that would be a praise for me.<\/p>\n<p>They do not understand the meaning of \u201c<em>gyAnam anuttAnam ivai nanRAgavE udaiyan Ana guruvai adaindhakkAl mAnilaththIr thEnAr kamalath thirumAmagaL kozhunan thanE vaikuntham tharum<\/em>\u201d [upadEsa raththinamAlai 61] (~if one reaches the AchAryan who is knowledgeable and practices the same, then, dear people, thAyAr\u2019s husband would automatically give you srIvaikuNtam);<\/p>\n<p>nor do they understand the meaning of <em>\u201cuyya ninaivu uNdAgil umgurukkaL tham padhaththE vaiyum anbu thannai indha mAnilaththIr, mei uraikkEn pai aravil mAyan paramapadham ungaLukkAm kai ilangu nellikkani\u201d<\/em> [upadEsa raththinamAlai 62] (if you have the thoughts of surviving (from here), place your love towards your AchAryan, dear people of this world; am telling the truth that (then) paramapadham would be yours as sure as like having a fruit in your palm.) and since they find fault in such matters, their words would be a praise only.<\/p>\n<p>The same meaning is also provided in \u2018<em>nIchai: krutha sthuthi: nindhA | nindhA sruthir bhi sthutha\u2019, <\/em> and \u201c<em>alagai mulai suvaiththArkku anbar adikku anbar thilatham enath thirivAr thammai, ulagar pazhi thURRRil thudhiyAgum <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/04\/gyana-saram-39-alagai-mulai-suvaitharkku\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gyAna sAram 39<\/a>]<em>.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Now he talks about those devoted to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmAnujar<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>avan manniya sIr thanakku uRRa anbar:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1274\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may-705x1024.jpg\" alt=\"bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may\" width=\"322\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may-705x1024.jpg 705w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may-206x300.jpg 206w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may-768x1116.jpg 768w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may-1057x1536.jpg 1057w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/bhagavad_ramanuja_2011_may.jpg 1086w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\" \/><\/a><em><strong>avan<\/strong> \u2013 <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) who incarnated to remove the pAshaNdar, etc., and other philosophies like chAruvaga, buddhism, Jainism; also was the garuda for the snake that is mAyAvadha (adhvaitha). He is the \u2018<em>thraividhya chUdAmaNi<\/em>:\u201d \u2013 the central stone of those who have learned all three vEdhas; and ultimately, the winner and protector like a dhvaja sthambam of srIrangam(n).<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>manniya sIr<\/strong> <strong>thanakku <\/strong>\u2013 <\/em>ever present qualities (of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>); \u201c<em>svakIya pApa vimOchanE saktha: thvam<\/em>\u201d [yathirAja vimsathi 17 by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>] ((yathirajA!) you have got the power to rid us from the pApams); such auspicious qualities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>uRRa anbar <\/em><\/strong>\u2013 the mahAthmAs who possess the devotion that is suitable for their qualities and knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>avan thirunAmgangaL sARRum en pA inak kuRRam<\/strong> \u2013 <\/em>as I was pushed by my bhakthi and encouraged to write the prabandham, they would not find fault in my words;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>kANa killAr<\/strong> \u2013 <\/em>they do not have the smarts (to find fault) (as they have used up their smarts for seeing the good qualities); also their nature is to consider faults as qualities; unlike those narrow minded who fault him that he is not following the prescribed ways for achieving other benefits;<\/p>\n<p>this is because,<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>paththi Eyndha iyalvu idhu enRu<\/strong> \u2013 <\/em>(they see that ) it is based on devotion (to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) that I am coming up with the words for the prabandham.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8211;
