(In the previous pAsuram I wondered how this happened, but not to imply that it is due to my own efforts).<\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/08\/pillai-lokam-jiyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piLLai lOkam jIyar<\/a>\u2019s introduction) In the earlier three pAsurams as the mind was praised, it might seem that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s divine feet was attained using one\u2019s own efforts; would that be apt for our nature \/ sath sampradhAyam? Or, even if it was attained by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s grace, how would you be sure that your mind would not move away from it later? To this, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amudhanAr <\/a>replies as this pAsuram.<\/p>\n<p><em>ennaip puviyil oru poruL Akki maruL surandha<\/em><br \/>\n<em>munnaip pazhavinai vEr aRuththu Uzhi mudhalvanaiyE<\/em><br \/>\n<em>pannap paNiththa irAmAnusan paran pAdhamum en<\/em><br \/>\n<em>chennith tharikka vaiththAn enakku Edhum chidhaivu illaiyE <\/em> &#8211; 4<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/yourlisten.com\/sarathy.thothathri\/ramanusa-nurranthadhi-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Listen<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/yourlisten.com\/embed\/html5?17500743\" frameborder=\"0\" style='width:100%;'><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word by word meaning (given by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Uzhi<\/em> \u2013 For all the things (sentient and non-sentient) present during the time of annihilation<br \/>\n<em>mudhalvanaiyE <\/em>\u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sarvEshwaran <\/a>who is the cause of such things<br \/>\n<em>panna<\/em> \u2013 for everyone (who are eligible to follow vEdhAntham), to analyse and distinguish <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn <\/a>and follow Him<br \/>\n<em>paNiththa<\/em> \u2013 (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) provided such knowledge through srI bHAshyam<br \/>\n<em>paran<\/em> \u2013 regarded as above everyone (including <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">Iswaran<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> showed Him to us)<br \/>\n<em>irAmAnusan<\/em> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a><br \/>\n<em>ennai<\/em> \u2013 me who is a nobody \/ insignificant entity<br \/>\n<em>puviyil<\/em> \u2013 in this world<br \/>\n<em>oru poruL Akki<\/em> \u2013 made me to be somebody (<em>oru vasthuvAmpadi paNNi<\/em>)<br \/>\n<em>vEr aRuththu<\/em> \u2013 (and) removed without trace<br \/>\n<em>munnaip pazha vinai<\/em> \u2013 all eternally existing old karmas<br \/>\n<em>maruL surandha<\/em> \u2013 generated by the lack of knowledge (avidhyA);<br \/>\n<em>en chennith tharikka vaiththAn<\/em> \u2013 (he) graced in my head<br \/>\n<em>pAdhamum<\/em> \u2013 his divine feet as well (implies <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s divine feet as well)<br \/>\n(so)<br \/>\n<em>enakku Edhum sidhaivu illai<\/em> \u2013 there is no trouble for my achievement (of having surrendered to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s divine feet along with my mind).<br \/>\n(or)<br \/>\n<em>paran pAdham<strong>um<\/strong> en chennith tharikka vaiththAn &#8211; <\/em> Here paran can be taken as <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a>, so in addition to his divine feet, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> made <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amudhanAr<\/a>\u2019s head to be set at <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a>\u2019s divine feet as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam (given by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/08\/pillai-lokam-jiyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piLLai lOkam jIyar<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>ennai<\/em> \u2013 me; who, before this time, was like \u2018<em>na namEyam<\/em>\u2019 (rAvaNan said: I will not fall at His feet (even though I know fully well the greatness of srI rAman)); was like &#8211; \u2018<em>asannEva sa bhavathi asadhbrahmEthi vEdha chEth<\/em>\u2019 [thaiththirIyOpanishath] \u2013 was as if non-existent when not having knowledge of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>; like in \u2018<em>poruL allAdha ennai<\/em>\u2019 [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> 5.7.3] (I was not significant\/existing).<\/p>\n<p><em>puviyil<\/em> \u2013 in this world that feeds ignorance \u2013 <em>iruL tharumA gyAlam <\/em>[upadhEsa raththina mAlai &#8211; 72]<\/p>\n<p><em>oru poruL Akki<\/em> \u2013 As said in \u2018<em>asthi brahmEthi chEdhvEdha \u2013 santhamEnam thathO vidhu:\u2019, <\/em>made me somebody. <em>\u2018poruL Akki adimai koNdAi\u2019 <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi <\/a>5.7.3] (made me something and engaged me in your service). <em>oru <\/em>&#8211; Not just some body, but made me the most distinguished among the most learned (of brahmam). (AzhwAr said \u2018<em>poruL Akki<\/em>\u2019 only, indicating prathama parvam; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amudhanAr<\/a> said \u2018<em>oru pOrul Akki<\/em>\u2019 indicating charama parvam).<\/p>\n<p><em>maruL surandha munnaip pazhavinai<\/em> \u2013 (a long explanation for this is given by piLLai lOkam jIyar, perhaps to encourage us to develop disliking towards the samsAram) As said in \u2018<em>samsAra sAgaram gOram anantha klEsa bhAjanam<\/em> [jithanthE sthotram 4]<em>;<\/em> (life here that is connected to non-sentient things, karmA, kAma, krOdha, etc., is like an ocean that is endless and deep in sorrows, its effects on us, and so on), and where we do not know how to get out of it (<em>dhik bhramam<\/em>), incessant pouring of sadness (<em>dhukka varshini)<\/em>, puthra, dhAra, gruha, kshEthra\u2019 (children, spouse, house, land, etc., which are also under the influence of the samsAram) are like mruga thrshNikA (a deer would keep going forward thinking that it sees water afar &#8211; mirage); lures us into thinking that this is all pleasant and desirable; and due to karmAs based on eternal mistakes of kruthya akaraNa (doing prohibited acts), akruthya karaNa (not doing ordered acts), bhagavatha apachAram (doing mistakes on matters related to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>), bhAgavatha apachAram (doing mistakes related to His devotees), and more such mistakes, such lowly earth in which we commit these mistakes; karmas: anAdhi (eternally) avidhyA (ignorant,) karma (we do undesirable things) vAsanA (and keep influenced by such earlier misdeeds) ruchI (and develop taste for repeating them); so we get into the loop of having relation to this prakruthi, and do karmas of good and bad deeds;<\/p>\n<p><em>vEr aRuththu<\/em> \u2013 vEr \u2013 root of a tree; if that is left out when cutting the tree, it might flourish back up; so (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) removed all my karmAs like cutting all the way from the root. \u2018<em><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/05\/thiruvaimozhi-1-2-3-nir-numathu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nIr numadhu enRu ivai vEr mudhal mAiththu<\/a>\u2019 <\/em>[thiruvAimozhi 1.2.3] (destroy ahankAram mamakAram including roots)<\/p>\n<p>The following match: <em>munnaip pazha vinai vEr aRuththu<\/em> \u2013 <em>sarva dharmAn parithyajya<\/em> (part of gIthA charama slOkam) \u2013 <em>purambu uNdAna paRRukkaLai adaiya vAsanaiyOdE vidugaiyum<\/em> (mumukshuppadi \u2013 dhvaya prakaraNam \u2013 1).<\/p>\n<p><em>Uzhi mudhalvanaiyE <\/em>\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sarvEshwaran<\/a> whose sanklapam (~vow) is the cause of all sentient and non-sentients \u2013 (Uzhi mudhal) upAdhAna kAraNam<strong>;<\/strong> (Uzhi mudhal<em>van<\/em>) nimiththa kAraNam<strong>;<\/strong> and sahakAri are implied in this phrase. &#8216;<span class=\"st\"><em>kAraNam thu dhyEya:<\/em>&#8216; [chAndhOgya upanishadh]<\/span> &#8211; (meditate of the one who is the root cause of everything) \u2013 such <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a>. The \u2018E\u2019 in mudhalvanaiy<strong>E<\/strong> implies that He is the only one of such characteristics (anya yOga vyavachchEdham). Similar to \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2014\/12\/thiruppavai-01-margazhi-thingal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nArayaNan<strong>E<\/strong> namakkE<\/a>\u2019 [thiruppAvai 1], \u2018mAm <strong>E<\/strong>kam charaNam vraja\u2019, \u2018mAm<strong>E<\/strong>vayE prapadhyanthE\u2019, \u2018tham<strong>E<\/strong>va chAdhyam\u2019, \u2018thvam<strong>E<\/strong>va upAya bhUthO mE bhava\u2019, \u2018ARu enakku nin pAdham<strong>E<\/strong> charaNagath thandhu ozhindhAi\u2019 [<a href=\"rabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi <\/a>5.7.10] ((only)your feet is the (only) way), etc.<\/p>\n<p>The following match: <em>Uzhi mudhalvanaiyE panna <\/em>\u2013 <em>mAm Ekam saraNam vraja<\/em> (2<sup>nd<\/sup> part of gIthA charama slOkam) \u2013 <em>emperumAnaiyE thanjam enRu paRRugaiyum <\/em>(mumukshuppadi \u2013 dhvaya prakaraNam \u2013 1)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/srIbhAshyakArar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3747\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/srIbhAshyakArar.jpg\" alt=\"srIbhAshyakArar\" width=\"345\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/srIbhAshyakArar.jpg 480w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/srIbhAshyakArar-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/a><em>emperumAnAr getting the name of srI bhAshyakArar<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>pannap paNiththa<\/em> \u2013 Combining with previous phrase, this says that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">srI bhAshyakArar<\/a> showed that it is <em>only<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn <\/a>who is the root cause of everything \u2013 without athivyApthi \u2013 that is, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> clearly showed the <em>definition<\/em> of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn <\/a>as specified by the vEdhas, brahma sUthram<strong>;<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmanujar <\/a>provided such srI bhAshyam and gItha bhAshyam for everyone to love, enjoy, and distinguish <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn <\/a>from others.<\/p>\n<p>irAmAnusan \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>. \u2018<em>sadhAchArya mUla: manthra rathna: <\/em>[dhvayOpanishad] (AchAryan who gave the manthram that talks about <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>), is my <em>paran<\/em> &#8211; perumAn<strong>\u2019; \u2018<\/strong><em>yasmAth thadh upadhEshtAsau thasmAdh guru tharO guru:<\/em>\u2019 (who teaches us about bhagavAn is higher than that bhagavAn) [mahAbhAratham]; such <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> made me surrender to bhagavAn who is the source of the creation of worlds.<\/p>\n<p><em> paran pAdhamum en chennith tharikka <\/em>\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> made me bear(<em>tharikka<\/em>) his feet in my head; He is saying \u2018paran pAdham\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a>\u2019s foot), since he is considering \u2018<em>gururEva param brahma<\/em>\u2019 (guru himself is the god), and so considering <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> as his god; or, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> made <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">sarvEswaran<\/a>\u2019s feet to be held in my head.<\/p>\n<p><em>vaiththAn \u2013 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> by himself made this help for me (nirhEthukam). He helped me get this boon that matches my true nature (of subservience). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nammAzhvAr <\/a>too said in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> 2.9.1, \u2018<em>emmA vIttu .. semmA pAdha parputh thalai sErththu &#8230; amma adiyEn vENduvadu IdhE<\/em>\u2019 (~ I request your feet in my head)<\/p>\n<p>This being the case,<\/p>\n<p><em>enakkEdhum sidhaivu illaiyE<\/em> \u2013 being the receiver of such grace by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a> due to his own mercy, there would be no harm for my current state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amudhanAr<\/a> has been repeatedly raving in each pAsuram about divine feet, \u2018<em>charaNAravindham\u2019, \u2018kamala padhangaL\u2019, \u2018pAdham\u2019, \u2018adi<\/em>\u2019. Just because he has got excess buttermilk would someone keep providing him rice prasAdham?, asks piLLai lOkam jIyar; there are only two feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>, but he is asking for feet in each pAsuram, just due to his eagerness towards <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAnAr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From srI u.vE. thirumalai nallAn chakravarthy rAmakrishNa iyengAr\u2019s \u2018amudha virundhu\u2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>srI bhAshyam\u2019s four adhyAyams (~chapters) contain the following three: Uzhi mudhalvan; Uzhi mudhalvanay<strong>E; <\/strong>Uzhi mudhalvanaiyE <strong>panna<\/strong>.
