Thus, he is called \u2018chathurbhAhu:\u2019 \u2013 the one with four arms.<\/p>\n<p>It is a well known fact that dhEvaki pleads to bhagavAn thus: \u201cOh lord of all entities! Thus, he is called \u2018chathurvyUha:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who is vested with all six divine qualities in their entirety in his four forms during his incarnation \u2013 just as in his vyUha forms \u2013 is called \u2018chathurvyUha:\u2019. Thus, he is called \u2018chathurgathi:\u2019 \u2013 the bestower of four destinations.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who has four destinations to be bestowed upon his devotees is called \u2018chathurgathi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u091a\u0924\u0938\u094d\u0930\u0903 \u092a\u094d\u0930\u093e\u092a\u094d\u0924\u092f\u094a \u092f\u0938\u094d\u092e\u093f\u0928\u094d \u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924\u093e\u0928\u093e\u0902 \u0938 \u091a\u0924\u0941\u0930\u094d\u0917\u0924\u093f\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>775) <u>chathurAthmA<\/u> (\u091a\u0924\u0941\u0930\u093e\u0924\u094d\u092e\u093e) (also seen in 139)<\/p>\n<p>With the same distinction amongst the devotees (on the basis of their level of maturity of devotion), bhagavAn further manifests in four forms \u2013 both gross as well as subtle \u2013 each corresponding to the four phases of knowledge namely \u2018jAgrath\u2019 (\u091c\u093e\u0917\u094d\u0930\u0924\u094d awakened), \u2018svapna\u2019 (\u0938\u094d\u0935\u093e\u092a dreaming), \u2018sushupthi\u2019 (\u0938\u0941\u0937\u0941\u092a\u094d\u0924\u093f deep slumber) and the fourth state or \u2018thurIya\u2019 (\u0924\u0941\u0930\u0940\u092f enlightened). [NOTE: These four forms correspond to the four vyUha forms of bhagavAn, as seen earlier (divine name 139, 140, etc)]<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn manifests in four forms \u2013 both gross as well as subtle) \u2013 in four different states namely waking, dreaming, deep slumber and fully enlightened, he is called \u2018chathurAthmA\u2019. He has this itself as his greatest cause. Hence, he is called \u2018chathurbhAva:\u2019. The word \u2018bhAva:\u2019 or \u2018bhAvanA\u2019 means \u2018to manifest\u2019. Thus, he manifests four fold in each of his vyUha forms.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn manifests (in four fold forms of each of his vyUha forms) in both gross as well as subtle states, and conducts various activities such as bestowing of SAsthras and the like (totally sixteen in number), he is called \u2018chathurbhAva:\u2019. Thus, he is called \u2018chathurvEdhavith\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who is known (albeit very less) by those who are learned in all four vEdhas is called \u2018chathurvEdhavith\u2019. This is because he incarnated as krishNa (and all other incarnations) with just a small fraction of his unfathomable splendour.<\/p>\n<p>That is why it is hailed thus in many places in the scriptures such as vishNu purANa, SrI rAmAyaNa, etc:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cOh brahmarishi! Thus, he is called \u2018samAvartha:\u2019 \u2013 the one who keeps cycling back.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: In this way (seen till the previous divine name), bhagavAn manifests with his divine glories of vyUha forms at all places, at all times and in all ways. Thus, he is called \u2018samAvartha:\u2019 [The one possesses such glories of vyUha forms, which are shown repeatedly is called \u2018samAvartha:\u2019].
