Thus, bhagavAn is called \u2018aparAjitha:\u2019 \u2013 he who makes his devotees invincible (and he who is himself invincible).<\/p>\n<p>This is shown by many knowledgeable men in SrI mahAbhAratha, as seen below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>indhra says thus to karna: \u201cYou may slay all your enemies single handed in the war, oh intelligent one! But you cannot do anything of that arjuna, who has sought refuge under the feet of the supreme soul krishNa. That incomprehensible nArAyaNa who is hailed by all the vEdhic scholars as the invincible lord hari, and who incarnated as the great wild boar (varAha), has himself come down as krishNa; and arjuna is protected by him (meaning, you cannot defeat arjuna whatsoever due to krishNa\u2019s protection)\u201d<\/li>\n<li>rudhra speaks thus to jayadhratha: \u201cOh jayadhratha, you may slay all your enemies who boast of invincible valour in the battle that is about to ensue. But I shall tell you for sure, that mighty armed arjuna cannot be defeated even by the dhEvas, for he is being protected by the supreme lord krishNa \u2013 who is the wielder of divine weapons namely the conch, discus, mace, etc.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOh lion among men (krishNa), he \u2013 (that arjuna) unto whom you have sought to go as a charioteer, shall emerge victorious for sure. There is certainly no failure for him\u201d<\/li>\n<li>bhIshma, dhrOna, and other warriors have spoken thus:\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI am capable of slaying all the pANdavas with a single arrow of mine, were they not to be under the protection of vishNu, who is the creator of all\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHonesty can certainly be seen in a brAhmaNa. Humility can certainly be seen in a noble person. Wealth can certainly be seen with a capable person. It is because every single entity is the body of bhagavAn. He would not do anything that is undesirable to his body. Thus, every entity is protected.<\/p>\n<p>This attribute is reflected in this divine name \u2018viSvamUrthi:\u2019 \u2013 the one who possesses the entire world as his body.<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn himself declares thus in the bhagavath gIthA: \u201cOh arjuna, I am the indweller residing in every entity in this creation\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who possesses the entire world as his divine body is called \u2018viSvamUrthi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0902 \u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0930\u094d\u0924\u0928\u0941\u0930\u094d\u092f\u0938\u094d\u092f \u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941 \u0938 \u0938\u094d\u092e\u0943\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>723) <u>mahAmUrthi:<\/u> (\u092e\u0939\u093e\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn\u2019s divine body is big enough to house all entities in it at once. Thus, he is called \u2018mahAmUrthi:\u2019 \u2013 the one with a huge body.<\/p>\n<p>This is shown in the bhagavath gIthA thus (while showing the viSvarUpa): \u201cOh arjuna, look at all the worlds and entities thereof stationed in one small part of my divine body, including all sentient and insentient entities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn\u2019s divine body is the sole refuge of all entities in this world (since his body is huge enough to house all these entities at a time), he is called \u2018mahAmUrthi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0948\u0915\u093e\u0936\u094d\u0930\u092f\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092e\u0939\u093e\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0930\u093f\u0924\u093f \u0938\u094d\u092e\u0943\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>724) <u>dhIpthamUrthi:<\/u> (\u0926\u0940\u092a\u094d\u0924\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Whatever in this world is luminous by whatever proportions is finally a part of his divine body. Thus, bhagavAn himself is called \u2018dhIpthamUrthi:\u2019 \u2013 the one with a luminous body.<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn himself declares thus: \u201cKnow all those objects that are considered prosperous, luminous and powerful in this world as having born from just a fraction of my effulgence\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since all objects that are luminous by any proportions in this world are just a part of his divine body, he is called \u2018dhIpthamUrthi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092f\u0924\u094d\u0915\u093f\u091e\u094d\u091a\u093f\u0924\u094d \u0915\u0946\u0928\u091a\u093f\u0926\u094d\u0926\u0940\u092a\u094d\u0924\u0902 \u0917\u0941\u0923\u0946\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d\u0930 \u0935\u093f\u0936\u0946\u0937\u0924\u0903 |<br \/>\u0924\u0924\u094d\u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0902 \u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0930\u0938\u094d\u092f\u0946\u0924\u093f \u0926\u0940\u092a\u094d\u0924\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0930\u0938\u094c \u0938\u094d\u092e\u0943\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>725) <u>amUrthimAn<\/u> (\u0905\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u092e\u093e\u0928\u094d)<\/p>\n<p>The sentient and insentient entities are all the property of bhagavAn even at the time of deluge, when they do not have the distinction of names or forms. Thus, he is called \u2018amUrthimAn\u2019 \u2013 the master of indistinct entities.<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn declares in the bhagavath gIthA thus:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe basic elements namely earth, water, fire, air and space, along with other entities namely mind, intellect and ahankAra are said to be the manifestations of my inferior property. My superior property is completely different from these, and is characterized by sentient entities, with which this world is borne\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The upanishaths hail thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHe who possesses the primordial nature as his divine body\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe who possesses the individual soul as his divine body\u201d, et al<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Further, this divine name cannot be taken to mean \u2018non-existence of a divine body\u2019 (amUrthi: \u0905\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0903). This is because the previous set of divine names as well as the subsequent set of divine names clearly shows the presence of a divine body for bhagavAn (such as \u2018viSvamUrthi:\u2019, \u2018SathamUrthi:\u2019, etc). Also, the \u2018mathup\u2019 (\u092e\u0924\u0941\u092a\u094d) adjunct is used in this divine name, which clearly shows the possession of something. So, clearly, this divine name only shows the presence of a divine body of bhagavAn, which also houses the sentient and insentient entities even at the time of deluge when they do not have distinction with names and forms.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The word \u2018amUrthi:\u2019 connotes the collection of sentient and insentient entities in their subtle state (with no distinction of names and forms). He who is the master of all such subtle entities (by being their indweller, or in other words \u2013 possessing them as his divine body) is called \u2018amUrthimAn\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0905\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0936\u092c\u094d\u0926\u0946\u0928\u094a\u091a\u094d\u092f\u0924\u0946 \u0939\u094d\u092f\u0935\u094d\u092f\u0915\u094d\u0924\u092a\u0941\u0930\u0941\u0937\u093e\u0926\u092f\u0903 |<br \/>\u0924 \u090f\u0935 \u092f\u0938\u094d\u092f \u0938\u094d\u0935\u092e\u093f\u0924\u093f \u0938 \u0938\u094d\u092e\u0943\u0924\u0903 \u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0926\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u092e\u093e\u0928\u094d ||<\/p>\n<p>726) <u>anEkamUrthi:<\/u> (\u0905\u0928\u0946\u0915\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Even while having incarnated as krishNa, bhagavAn never gave up his four forms of vyUha \u2013 namely vAsudhEva (as krishNa in his own form), sankarshaNa (as balarAma), pradhyumna (as bhagavAn\u2019s son) and anirudhdha (as bhagavAn\u2019s grandson). Thus he is called \u2018anEkamUrthi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Alternately, the vishNu purANa shows thus: \u201cbhagavAn krishNa \u2013 the son of dhEvaki \u2013 took up as many forms at once as there were gOpikas, who were sixteen thousand and one hundred in number!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since bhagavAn took (takes) such extraordinary forms in multitude, he is called \u2018anEkamUrthi:\u2019 \u2013 the one with numerous forms.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: There were sixteen thousand and one hundred wives. Since bhagavAn also took so many forms at once, he is called \u2018anEkamUrthi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0937\u094a\u0921\u0936\u0938\u094d\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940\u0938\u0939\u0938\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0923\u093f \u0936\u0924\u092e\u0946\u0915\u0902 \u0924\u0924\u094as\u0927\u093f\u0915\u092e\u094d |<br \/>\u0905\u0928\u0946\u0915\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0930\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0941\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0903 \u0924\u0924\u094d\u0938\u0902\u0916\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0915\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0926\u0946\u0939\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>727) <u>avyaktha:<\/u> (\u0905\u0935\u094d\u092f\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Although bhagavAn has all the glories stated till now, yet he concealed them under his human appearance. Hence, he is called \u2018avyaktha:\u2019 \u2013 the concealed one.<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn says thus about himself:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI do not manifest before everyone\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI cannot be comprehended either by penance or by study of vEdhas\u201d, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn conceals his true nature under the guise of a human form (as krishNa), he is called \u2018avyaktha:\u2019 by the knowledgeable men learned in the highest philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>\u092e\u0928\u0941\u0937\u094d\u092f\u0924\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0928 \u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0924\u094d\u0930 \u092a\u0930\u093e\u092d\u0935\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0915\u093e\u0936\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d |<br \/>\u092c\u0941\u0927\u0948\u0930\u0935\u094d\u092f\u0915\u094d\u0924 \u0907\u0924\u093f \u091a \u0915\u0925\u093f\u0924\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0924\u094d\u0924\u094d\u0935\u092a\u093e\u0930\u0917\u0948\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>728) <u>SathamUrthi:<\/u> (\u0936\u0924\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Thence, the viSvarUpa form of krishNa is hailed. Since bhagavAn showed his universal form viSvarUpam to arjuna who was keen on seeing that form, he is called \u2018SathamUrthi:\u2019 \u2013 the one with hundreds of forms.<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn says thus to arjuna: \u201cSee my glorious forms, oh arjuna! Behold the hundreds and thousands of forms of mine&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn showed hundreds of forms in his viSvarUpa to arjuna, he is called \u2018SathamUrthi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0905\u0930\u094d\u091c\u0941\u0928\u093e\u092f \u0935\u094d\u092f\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0924\u092f\u093e \u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0930\u0942\u092a\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0926\u0930\u094d\u0936\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d |<br \/>\u0936\u0924\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0930\u093f\u0924\u093f \u0916\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>729) <u>SathAnana:<\/u> (\u0936\u0924\u093e\u0928\u0928\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn is further called \u2018SathAnana:\u2019 for the same reason (as explained in the previous divine name). In the same viSvarUpa form, arjuna glorifies thus: \u201cI see in your glorious form a multitude of faces, eyes, divine jewellery, weapons, etc&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn showed arjuna hundreds and thousands of faces in his viSvarUpa form, he is called \u2018SathAnana:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0936\u0924\u0936\u094as\u0925 \u0938\u0939\u0938\u094d\u0930\u0936\u0903 |<br \/>\u0905\u0928\u0946\u0915\u093e\u0928\u0928\u0938\u092e\u094d\u092a\u0924\u094d\u092f\u093e \u0936\u0924\u093e\u0928\u0928 \u0907\u0924\u0940\u0930\u093f\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>================================<br \/>\u090f\u0915\u094a \u0928\u0948\u0915\u0903 \u0938 \u0935\u0903 \u0915\u0903 \u0915\u093f\u0902 \u092f\u0924\u094d\u0924\u0924\u094d\u092a\u0926\u092e\u0928\u0941\u0924\u094d\u0924\u092e\u092e\u094d \u0964<br \/>\u0932\u094a\u0915\u092c\u0928\u094d\u0927\u0941\u0930\u094d\u0932\u094a\u0915\u0928\u093e\u0925\u094a \u092e\u093e\u0927\u0935\u094a \u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0935\u0924\u094d\u0938\u0932\u0903 \u0965 \u096d\u096e \u0965<br \/>================================<\/p>\n<p>730) <u>Eka:<\/u> (\u090f\u0915\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>With respect to all the greatness expounded till now, since there is no other entity equal to bhagavAn (meaning, since there is none to equal bhagavAn in possessing all the said great qualities), he is called \u2018Eka:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The root \u2018iN\u2019 \u0907\u0923\u094d (to move) gets the \u2018kan\u2019 (\u0915\u0928\u094d) adjunct \u2013 replacing \u2018i\u2019 (\u0907) with \u2018E\u2019 (\u090f), thus resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, entities are grouped together based on some distinguishing characteristic. For example, we say \u201ctwo brahmanas\u201d, \u201cthree kshathriyas\u201d, et al based on some distinction. But no such distinction can be applied to any other entity to group it with bhagavAn.
