Thus, bhagavAn is called \u2018mahAyajvA\u2019 \u2013 the one whose worshippers are most superior.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures have this to say in this regard: \u201cAmongst all such devotees of bhagavAn, those \u2018EkAnthis\u2019 \u2013 who are singly minded towards bhagavAn alone \u2013 are the most superior\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is called \u2018mahAyajvA\u2019, since he makes those devotees who single-mindedly worship him alone as much superior to those who worship other dhEvas. The morning waking ritual, divine bath, decorations, offering of bhOgam (sumptuous food) and sweets, etc make bhagavAn\u2019s worship much superior to the worship of other dhEvas (who are worshipped without much flavour). Thus, bhagavAn is called \u2018mahAyagya:\u2019 \u2013 the one whose worship is superior to that of other dhEvas.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures have hailed bhagavAn\u2019s worship in many ways thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cOf all dharmas, indeed the worship of bhagavAn vishNu is the best. bhagavAn vishNu protects his dear devotees just as a soul protects its body\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cbhagavAn happily accepts with his head (accepts them as the highest offering) all such deeds of his dear devotees who show single minded devotion towards him (such as all those mentioned above including waking up of the lord, giving him a ritual bath, offering decorations and sumptuous food etc)\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBehold! All those \u2018EkAnthis\u2019 (devotees who possess single-minded devotion towards bhagavAn) please hari with all rituals mentioned in the scriptures, which bhagavAn hari himself accepts with utmost happiness\u201d, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: He who makes his own worship superior to the worship of other dhEvathAs is called \u2018mahAyagya:\u2019. This eight syllable manthra confers verily the worship of bhagavAn hari.<\/p>\n<p>\u0905\u0928\u094d\u092f\u0946\u092d\u094d\u092f\u094a \u0926\u0946\u0935\u092f\u093e\u0917\u0946\u092d\u094d\u092f\u0903 \u0938\u094d\u0935\u092f\u093e\u0917\u094a\u0924\u094d\u0915\u0930\u094d\u0937\u0915\u093e\u0930\u0915\u0903 |<br \/>\u092e\u0939\u093e\u092f\u091c\u094d\u091e\u0903 \u0938\u092e\u093e\u0916\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094a \u0939\u094d\u092f\u0937\u094d\u091f\u093e\u0930\u094d\u0923\u094a \u0939\u0930\u093f\u092f\u093e\u0917\u0926\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>683) <u>mahAhavi:<\/u> (\u092e\u0939\u093e\u0939\u0935\u093f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>As shown in the various vEdhic statements such as \u201cThere was no killing of animal\u201d, \u201cThere was only chanting of AraNyaka (a part of vEdhas)\u201d, etc, bhagavAn doesn\u2019t accept any offering involving violence. Rather, he accepts only those offerings that are sAththvik in nature as expounded in the vEdhas. Thus, he is called \u2018mahAhavi:\u2019 \u2013 the one who accepts only noble offerings.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures have said thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe oblations of ghee, firewood, etc \u2013 which are verily the form of supreme brahman \u2013 are offered&#8230;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSome others worship me with their knowledge alone&#8230;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI shall worship that bhagavAn in just the way I am. I shall not distance myself from him \u2013 who is my master\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI shall offer myself (individual soul) unto that indweller of sUryamaNdala&#8230;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI shall only offer myself\u201d, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As seen in these scriptural statements, bhagavAn is worshipped by offering oneself (mind, intellect, senses, soul, etc) unto him (which is the highest offering).<\/p>\n<p>The SAnthi parva of SrI mahAbhAratha hails the greatness of one such devotee named \u2018uparichara vasu\u2019, who is hailed as a \u2018paramaikAnthi\u2019 \u092a\u0930\u092e\u0948\u0915\u093e\u0928\u094d\u0924\u0940 (the one with a steadfast single-minded devotion towards bhagavAn alone). Thus, he is called \u2018sthavya:\u2019 \u2013 the praiseworthy one. bhagavAn possesses virtuous, auspicious and eternal divine qualities that are always unbounded and fully meant for the sake of his dear devotees alone. There are thousands of divine names that sing his glories thus. He is thus established as the lord of all beings. Thus, he alone is worthy of praises. All other dhEvathAs \u2013 which are characterized by qualities contrary to the said nature \u2013 are not worthy of it.<\/p>\n<p>The bArhaspathya smrithi says thus: \u201cJust as mundane people praise a wealthy man and beget material benefits, who on earth wouldn\u2019t be liberated from the bonds of samsAra if he praises the creator of all worlds?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In this same vishNu sahasranAma, it will be said thus, later: \u201cThus, one thousand out of the unlimited divine names of that great supreme soul kESava \u2013 who is truly worth of such praises \u2013 have been sung\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The ways of physical worship of bhagavAn hari by all souls has been said till now (previous divine name). Thence, the means of verbal worship (by praising him and singing his divine names) of that nArAyaNa shall be expounded. He who is worthy of all praises is called \u2018sthavya:\u2019. Thus, he is called \u2018sthavapriya:\u2019 \u2013 the one who is fond of prayers.<\/p>\n<p>This is proven beyond doubt in many cases such as that of a person named \u2018ghaNtAkarNa\u2019 (\u0918\u0923\u094d\u091f\u093e\u0915\u0930\u094d\u0923\u0903), et al.<\/p>\n<p>(NOTE: ghaNtAkarNa was a staunch devotee of rudhra and dead against bhagavAn. He had a pair of bells tied to his ears. Whenever someone praised bhagavAn, he would shake his head and chime the bells so that he wouldn\u2019t listen to bhagavAn\u2019s names or glories. At some point of time, due to circumstances, he was finally required to praise bhagavAn in order to seek mOksha. Even then, he wouldn\u2019t praise bhagavAn with love, but would pray just for the sake of it \u2013 without any flavour. Yet, bhagavAn pleasingly heeded to his prayer)<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who is extremely fond of prayers sung by anyone in any language and in anyway (irrespective of whether or not it is a laudable way of praising) is called \u2018sthavapriya:\u2019. Thus, he is only called \u2018sthOthram\u2019 as well.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018sthu\u2019 \u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941 (to praise) gets the \u2018shtran\u2019 (\u0937\u094d\u091f\u094d\u0930\u0928\u094d) adjunct as per grammatical rules, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>This can be seen in the case of dhruva mahArAja.<\/p>\n<p>(NOTE: The story of dhruva can be seen in SrI bhAgavatham. dhruva \u2013 a small boy \u2013 sets out to realize the supreme soul owing to various circumstances. He performs severe penance for about six months, for which bhagavAn gets pleased and appears before him. When dhruva repents for his inability to sing bhagavAn\u2019s glories due to his ignorance, bhagavAn touches his pAnchajanya conch to dhruva\u2019s cheeks, at which instant dhruva starts pouring out an exemplary hymn in praise of nArAyaNa. So it clearly proves that he is the one who enables us to sing his glories as well, and hence this divine name.)<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn\u2019s praises are accomplished only because of his grace, he is called \u2018sthOthram\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0928\u0948\u0935 \u0928\u093f\u0937\u094d\u092a\u093e\u0926\u094d\u092f\u0924\u092f\u093e \u0938\u094d\u0935\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941\u0924\u0946\u0903 \u0938\u094d\u0924\u094a\u0924\u094d\u0930\u092e\u0941\u091a\u094d\u092f\u0924\u0946 |<\/p>\n<p>687) <u>sthutha:<\/u> (\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941\u0924\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn gets praised by his devotees with varying ranks, such as AdhiSEsha, garuda, and other liberated and ever-liberated souls, infinite number of bounded souls such as brahmA, indhra and other dhEvas, as well as us \u2013 who are living here to this day, and also who would be born in this world in various births for a long time to come. All of these entities glorify bhagavAn in order to attain their desires (befitting their knowledge levels). Thus, bhagavAn is called \u2018sthutha:\u2019 \u2013 the one who is praised.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The vishNu dharma says thus: \u201c&#8230;the pastimes of whom are glorified by infinite dhEvas including indhra, and all the big time rulers of mankind&#8230;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The purusha sUktha hails thus: \u201cHe who is praised by the four faced brahmA, who is known by indhra et al, and hailed by all the humans&#8230;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The word \u2018pradhiSaScha-thasra:\u2019 (\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0926\u093f\u0936\u0936\u094d\u091a\u0924\u0938\u094d\u0930\u0903) shows bhagavAn\u2019s glorification by all of us \u2013 the humans at all places at all times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is called \u2018sthutha:\u2019, because he is equally glorified by all souls irrespective of their ranks \u2013 such as AdhiSEsha, vishvaksEna and other liberated and ever-liberated souls (present in the nithya vibhUthi), as well as all of the bounded souls including ourselves (present in this leelA vibhUthi).<\/p>\n<p>\u0936\u0946\u0937\u0936\u0946\u0937\u093e\u0936\u0928\u093e\u0926\u094d\u092f\u0948\u0930\u094d\u092f\u0903 \u0938\u0942\u0930\u093f\u092d\u093f\u0936\u094d\u091a\u093e\u0938\u094d\u092e\u0926\u093e\u0926\u093f\u092d\u093f\u0903 |<br \/>\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941\u0924\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0926\u0935\u093f\u0936\u0946\u0937\u0946\u0923 \u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941\u0924 \u0907\u0924\u094d\u092f\u092d\u093f\u0926\u0940\u092f\u0924\u0946 ||<\/p>\n<p>688) <u>sthOthA<\/u> (\u0938\u094d\u0924\u094a\u0924\u093e)<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, bhagavAn possesses such simple character that he himself praises those who praise him. Thus, he is called \u2018sthOthA\u2019 \u2013 the one who praises.<\/p>\n<p>The vishNu dharma glorifies this by saying thus: \u201cPraising whom one attains the stature of being praised, and prostrating unto whom one attains the status of being prostrated&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This character of bhagavAn is evident in the context of his praising of Siva during his kailAsa-yAthrA (NOTE: This refers to the story of krishna visiting kailAsa and praying to Siva for progeny).<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who possesses the noble character of praising those who praise him is called \u2018sthOthA\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0938\u094d\u0924\u094a\u0924\u093e\u0930\u0902 \u092a\u0930\u0902 \u0938\u094d\u0924\u094a\u0924\u0941\u0902 \u0936\u0940\u0932\u0902 \u092f\u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0938\u094d\u0924\u093f \u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0926\u093e |<br \/>\u0938\u094d\u0924\u094a\u0924\u093e \u0938 \u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092a\u091e\u094d\u091a\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0923\u0903 \u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0924\u094d\u0935\u0926\u094a \u092e\u0928\u0941\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>689) <u>raNapriya:<\/u> (\u0930\u0923\u092a\u094d\u0930\u093f\u092f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>As seen from the various deeds of bhagavAn recorded in various scriptures such as SrImath rAmAyaNa, mahAbhAratha, etc, he is the one who possesses numerous divine deeds in order to please those who praise him. Thus, he is called \u2018raNapriya:\u2019 \u2013 the one who is fond of wars!<\/p>\n<p>Particularly, he is called so because he has fought numerous wars in order to please his dear devotees who have prayed to him for various reasons.<\/p>\n<p>This is amply clear from a SlOka in SrI rAmAyaNa that hails thus: \u201cThence, rAma pleased his dear friend SugrIva as well as the mighty angadha by killing rAvana in the war\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who wars against enemies in order to please his devotees is called \u2018raNapriya:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u0941\u0939\u0943\u0924\u094d\u092a\u094d\u0930\u093f\u092f\u0902 \u092f\u0941\u0926\u094d\u0927\u0915\u0930\u094d\u092e \u092f\u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0938\u094d\u0924\u093f \u0938 \u0930\u0923\u092a\u094d\u0930\u093f\u092f\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>690) <u>pUrNa:<\/u> (\u092a\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0923\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Even in the absence of offerings made of expensive materials earned by much effort, bhagavAn is pleased by mere praising alone. How? It is possible because he is \u2018pUrNa:\u2019 \u2013 the complete one.
