Not just that, he shall be seen in this form even by the forthcoming generations of people for a long time to come.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, he is called \u2018sarvathaSchakshu:\u2019 \u2013 the one who is seen by everyone.<\/p>\n<p>This clearly proves his ability to clear all doubts regarding himself, as seen in the divine name \u2018chinnasamSaya:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>After all, there cannot be even an iota of doubt when he is seen so manifest in so many places thus.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn shows himself to the eyes of every individual (who are born much later to his incarnations). Thus, he is called \u2018sarvathaSchakshu:\u2019. Thus, he limits his own \u2018lordship\u2019 and acts completely dependent. Hence, he is called \u2018anISa:\u2019 \u2013 the one who is not the master!<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is called \u2018anISa:\u2019 amongst his devotees, for he completely depends on them for every service (in his archA form).<\/p>\n<p>\u092a\u094d\u0930\u094a\u0915\u094d\u0924\u094a \u0939\u094d\u092f\u0928\u0940\u0936\u094a \u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0946\u0937\u0941 \u0924\u0926\u093e\u092f\u0924\u094d\u0924\u093e\u0916\u093f\u0932\u0915\u094d\u0930\u093f\u092f\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>633) <u>SASvathasthira:<\/u> (\u0936\u093e\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0924\u0938\u094d\u0925\u093f\u0930\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Unlike his incarnations, where bhagavAn manifests only for a certain period and disappears, he is ever manifest in various forms of \u2018archA vigraha\u2019s (such as rAma, krishna, varAha, hayagrIva, SrInivasa, kESava, et al) in order to show himself to the countless people who are born at a later period as well. Thus, he is called \u2018SASvathasthira:\u2019 in his archA form \u2013 meaning, the one who stays forever.<\/p>\n<p>That is why the sAththvatha samhitha hails thus: \u201cbhagavAn resides in the various idols chosen by his devotees, by taking verily those forms\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn, who resides in various idols (desired by his devotees) by taking the respective forms, is called \u2018SASvathasthira:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092c\u093f\u092e\u094d\u092c\u093e\u0915\u0943\u0924\u094d\u092f\u093ess\u0924\u094d\u092e\u0928\u093e \u092c\u093f\u092e\u094d\u092c\u0946 \u0938\u094d\u0925\u093f\u0924\u0903 \u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0936\u093e\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0924\u0938\u094d\u0925\u093f\u0930\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>634) <u>bhUSaya:<\/u> (\u092d\u0942\u0936\u092f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Obliging to his devotees who seek his presence in the form of archA vigrahas, bhagavAn lies down in those lands that are identified by his dear devotees \u2013 being consecrated at such places by people of various ranks such as sidhdhas, manushyas, et al. He lies down in such places with the sole intention of gracing his devotees. Thus, he is called \u2018bhUSaya:\u2019 \u2013 the one who sleeps on the land.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: With various forms such as self-manifested, et al (others being \u2013 consecrated by rishis, dhEvas, sidhdhas, et al), since bhagavAn sleeps on this land, he is called \u2018bhUSaya:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u094d\u0935\u092f\u0902\u0935\u094d\u092f\u0915\u094d\u0924\u093e\u0926\u093f\u0930\u0942\u092a\u0946\u0923 \u0915\u094c \u0936\u0946\u0924\u0946 \u092d\u0942\u0936\u092f\u0936\u094d\u091a \u0938\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>635) <u>bhUshaNa:<\/u> (\u092d\u0942\u0937\u0923\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>In this way, bhagavAn \u2013 the consort of SrIdhEvi \u2013 decorates himself with the most beautiful ornament of \u2018benevolence\u2019. Thus, he is called \u2018bhUshaNa:\u2019 \u2013 the bedecked one.<\/p>\n<p>As per grammatical rules, the root \u2018bhUsha\u2019 (\u092d\u0942\u0937) gets the \u2018yuch\u2019 (\u092f\u0941\u091a\u094d) adjunct, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>After all, when a very wealthy man goes to the house of a poor person as a guest and accepts that poor man\u2019s hospitality, then it is not a shortcoming for the wealthy man. Rather, it becomes his virtue. Similarly, when bhagavAn comes down to our houses and temples as archA vigrahas and accepts our services, it only adds to his glories.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: That consort of SrIdhEvi, who bedecks himself with the superior quality of benevolence, is called \u2018bhUshaNa:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u090f\u0935\u0902 \u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u091c\u0928\u0940\u0928\u0946\u0928 \u0936\u0940\u0932\u0946\u0928 \u091a \u0936\u094d\u0930\u093f\u092f\u0903\u092a\u0924\u093f\u0903 |<br \/>\n\u092f \u0906\u0924\u094d\u092e\u093e\u0928\u0902 \u092d\u0942\u0937\u092f\u0924\u093f \u092d\u0942\u0937\u0923\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>636) <u>bhUthi:<\/u> (\u092d\u0942\u0924\u093f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, bhagavAn \u2013 in his archA vigraha \u2013 is the greatest wealth unto those devotees who are knowledgeable about all the explicit means of attaining him. For all such devotees, bhagavAn is verily a treasure \u2013 as precious as children, cattle, friends and relatives, and the like. Thus, he is called \u2018bhUthi:\u2019 \u2013 the wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He \u2013 who is the greatest wealth unto his devotees (in his archA form) \u2013 is called \u2018bhUthi:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092f\u094as\u0938\u094c \u0938\u092e\u0943\u0926\u094d\u0927\u093f\u0930\u0948\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0930\u094d\u092f\u0902 \u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924\u093e\u0928\u093e\u0902 \u092d\u0942\u0924\u093f\u0930\u0940\u0930\u093f\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>637) <u>aSOka:<\/u> (\u0905\u0936\u094a\u0915\u0903) (also repeated in 338) \/ <u>viSOka:<\/u> (\u0935\u093f\u0936\u094a\u0915\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn is thus free of all sorrows of being separated from his dear devotees. There is none who can be called as a \u2018stray\u2019 person, for bhagavAn is the lord of every being. He only protects every soul, and thus he is free from all sorrows therein. Thus, he is called \u2018aSOka:\u2019 or \u2018viSOka:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>(NOTE: Some versions of the sahasranAmam text have this divine name as \u2018viSOka:\u2019, and some others as \u2018aSOka:\u2019. bhattar indicates that both of these are acceptable names in our sampradhAyam, and mean the same)<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn is the master of all entities (and hence protects them at all times and thereby frees himself from all sorrows), he is called by the divine name \u2018aSOka:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0928\u093e\u0925\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u091a\u094d\u091a\u093e\u092a\u093f \u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0937\u093e\u092e\u0936\u094a\u0915\u0924\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0928 \u0908\u0930\u093f\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>638) <u>SOkanASana:<\/u> (\u0936\u094a\u0915\u0928\u093e\u0936\u0928\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Even amongst his devotees, bhagavAn destroys the sorrow of separation by being always united with them in the form of archA vigrahas. Thus, he is called \u2018SOkanASana:\u2019 \u2013 the one who destroys sorrows.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures have hailed thus:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have heard that bhagavAn will definitely destroy all our sorrows. Oh bhagavAn! I am now in one such distress. He is the one who possesses the divine effulgence that is capable of opening the eyes of his dear devotees \u2013 both internal and external (knowledge as well as senses). Hence, he is called \u2018archishmAn\u2019 \u2013 the effulgent one.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who possesses divine effulgence at all times \u2013 which is capable of opening both the internal as well as external eyes of his devotees \u2013 is called \u2018archishmAn\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092c\u093e\u0939\u094d\u092f\u093e\u092d\u094d\u092f\u0928\u094d\u0924\u0930-\u0938\u0926\u094d\u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924-\u091a\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0941\u0930\u0941\u0928\u094d\u0928\u092f\u0928\u0915\u094d\u0937\u092e\u092e\u094d |<br \/>\n\u0926\u093f\u0935\u094d\u092f\u0902 \u0924\u0946\u091c\u0903 \u0938\u0926\u093e \u092f\u0938\u094d\u092f \u0938\u094as\u0930\u094d\u091a\u093f\u0937\u094d\u092e\u093e\u0928\u093f\u0924\u093f \u0915\u0925\u094d\u092f\u0924\u0946 ||<\/p>\n<p>640) <u>architha:<\/u> (\u0905\u0930\u094d\u091a\u093f\u0924\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Remembering all of bhagavAn\u2019s divine qualities listed till now, bhIshma continues to illustrate those qualities in bhagavAn\u2019s divine forms starting with this divine name \u2018architha:\u2019 \u2013 the worshipped one.<\/p>\n<p>The word \u2018archA\u2019 (\u0905\u0930\u094d\u091a\u093e) refers to the archAvathAra (\u0905\u0930\u094d\u091a\u093e\u0935\u0924\u093e\u0930\u0903) or the idols of worship. Since bhagavAn takes such forms, he is called \u2018architha:\u2019. In the true sense, such archA vigrahas only may be termed as \u2018avathAra\u2019 (descent), since they are very easily accessible to each one of us \u2013 unlike the \u2018para\u2019 form which can be seen only in SrIvaikuNtam. Even his incarnations in the form of dhEva, manushya et al at various times and at various places wouldn\u2019t serve the real purpose of \u2018descent\u2019 \u2013 as much as the archA forms do.<\/p>\n<p>On the contrary, bhagavAn \u2013 in his archA forms \u2013 resides at all places, temples and houses, at all times and very much manifest even to our mortal eyes. Thus, the archA forms of bhagavAn truly serve the purpose of his \u2018descent\u2019 in this world.<\/p>\n<p>The deep hidden purports of such descent of bhagavAn in the form of archA may be learnt from various scriptures such as bOdhAyana smrithi, vishNu purANa, etc.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, it is said in the vaishNava dharma thus:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne must make beautiful idols with pleasant looks of bhagavAn vishNu, with various materials such as gold, silver etc (includes various metals, mud, wood, etc as ordained in the scriptures).\u00a0 Such idols must be very pleasing to the eyes of such devotees. Then, they must worship bhagavAn in that form; prostrate before that form; serve bhagavAn in that form in various ways (offering various upachAras); and meditate upon those forms of bhagavAn. Doing thus, all the blemishes \/ sins of such worshipper are ridden off, and they finally attain that supreme brahman\u201d, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The word \u2018archA\u2019 refers to the divine forms of bhagavAn as idols of worship. Since bhagavAn manifests at various places such as in temples, homes, etc (in order to accept the worship of his devotees at those respective places), he is called \u2018architha:\u2019.
