the names<br \/>uththaman &#8211; of purushOthaman<br \/>Ongi &#8211; the one who grew tall<br \/>aLandha &#8211; and measured (with His lotus feet)<br \/>ulagu &#8211; all the three worlds,<br \/>nIradinAl &#8211; if we bathed<br \/>nam pAvaikku chARRi &#8211; with the front\/pretense of a nOnbu<br \/>nAdu ellAm &#8211; the whole country<br \/>thIngu inRi &#8211; without any bad<br \/>mummAri peidhu &#8211; would properly rain<br \/>thingaL &#8211; every month, and<br \/>kayal ugaLa &#8211; fish would jump around<br \/>(so) Ongu perum sennel Udu &#8211; between the tall and healthy grass,<br \/>poRi vaNdu &#8211;\u00a0 and beautiful bees<br \/>kaN paduppa &#8211; would sleep<br \/>pUm-kuvaLai pOdhil &#8211; in beautiful flowers,<br \/>thEngadhE &#8211; without hesitation<br \/>pukku irundhu &#8211; get to and try to<br \/>vAnga &#8211; pull<br \/>sIrtha mulai paRRi &#8211; by holding with both the hands the big nipples of<br \/>perum pasukkaL &#8211; healthily grown cows<br \/>kudam niRaikkum &#8211; they would fill the containers<br \/>vaLLal &#8211; with generosity<br \/>nIngAdha selvam &#8211; (such is the ) wealth that can be sustained<br \/>niRaindhu &#8211; and stay complete.<\/p>\n<h3>Simple Translation<\/h3>\n<p>Note: Inner meaning about AchAryan\/sishyan is interspersed in this text.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ongi ulagaLandha<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In previous pAsurams, they started with saying nArAyaNan (parathvam), then they said about his next place for avathAra ideas to save us people, as kshIrabhdi nAthan in the milky ocean and how gOpikAs were fond of his divine feet (vyUham); and now they are looking at the lotus feet of thrivikraman (vibhavam).<\/p>\n<p>Ongi \u2013 as He was in sayanam (lying down posture) in the milky ocean, on Adhi sEshan, thinking about His next avathAram for saving people, when dhEvas prayed to Him about mahAbali&#8217;s troubles, He got up and grew as thrivikraman; &#8216;<em>uvandha uLLaththanAi ulagam aLandhu <\/em>[amalanAdhipirAn &#8211; 3]&#8217; because of happiness to do the work for other people&#8217;s benefit; \u00a0It is not &#8216;<em>vaLarndhu ulagaLandhu<\/em>&#8216; but &#8216;<em>Ongi ulagaLandhu<\/em>&#8216; \u2013 it is not like He has to grow now \u2013 <em>Ongi<\/em> implies He with affection and kindness is getting up so fast, to help the dhEvas;<\/p>\n<p>When a <em>samsAri<\/em>, one with <em>ahankAram<\/em>, <em>svAthanthriyam<\/em>, etc., one day wonders who will be the savior for him, \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a> takes that as a call for help and immediately rushes to his or her heart to help further to reach near His lotus feet for doing kainkaryam.<\/p>\n<p>When He measured all the worlds (with His 3 steps\u2019 land), His divine foot touched all the people&#8217;s heads as He was fond of giving blessings to one and all. Even when some of them were not understanding His love for them, He was still fond of touching everyone like how a mother would hug her child sleeping next to her without thinking whether the child will be aware of her hug or not.<\/p>\n<p>Since He is similar in beauty and behavior to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">krishNan<\/a>, they are enjoying thrivikrama avathAram also.<\/p>\n<p><strong>uththaman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He lives thinking that helping these dhEvas is His pleasure\/destiny; An <em>adhaman<\/em> is one who troubles others to gain some benefits; <em>madhyaman<\/em> thinks others should live as well as he should live; but <em>uththaman<\/em> would even reduce himself for the benefit of others. (saying his names (nAmam)).<\/p>\n<p>The difference between His nAmam and Himself is like the difference between Him and others. Such is the wonder of his nAmam. If He is a gold bar, His nAmam is like gold jewels. Even if those who are not His bhakthAs say His name it would benefit them; there is no qualification needed to say His name \u2013 saying His name would be one\u2019s all the qualifications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>uthaman pEr<\/strong> &#8211; refers to thirumanthram; in 1st pAsuram it says &#8216;nArAyaNan&#8217;, in the 2nd, &#8216;paraman&#8217; that is His <em>guNA<\/em> as implied by the manthram, In this pAsuram, they refer to thrivikraman which refers to omnipresence (<em>vyApthi<\/em>) which the thirumanthram reveals, and is represented by vAmana.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">krishNan<\/a> in gIthA talked about 4 ways to reach him in srI vaikuntam &#8211; karma yOgam (actions), gyAna yOgam (wisdom\/knowledge), bhakthi yOgam (devotion) and SaraNAgathi (surrender). The first three require so much effort on the person&#8217;s part, that krishNan suggested the last option that is SaraNAgathi (surrender; samAsrayaNam) for people like us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ongiyavan<\/strong> <em>pEr pAdi<\/em> &#8211; is telling the great people following the karma yOgam to recite the names (pEr pAdi) of the <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAL<\/a> who got up and grew fast (action).<\/p>\n<p><strong>ulagaLandhavan<\/strong> <em>pEr pAdi<\/em> &#8211; when ones <em>learns<\/em> more about how He covered so many worlds with His divine foot, the <em>gyAnam<\/em> will grow &#8211; reciting His names in this way is for those great people following the gyAna yOgam<\/p>\n<p><strong>uththaman<\/strong> <em>pEr pAdi<\/em> &#8211; when thinking how He is an <em>uththaman<\/em>, the person would get more <em>bhakthi<\/em> &#8211; this is for the great people following the bhakthi yOgam to recite His names (pEr pAdi)<\/p>\n<p>so, what about the SaranAgathAs (prapannars, mumukshus) who have done samAshrayaNam through her\/his AchAryan? Which words combine in the pAsuram for them to talk about reciting his names? . . . . It is just &#8216;<em>pEr pAdi<\/em>&#8216;! &#8211; saying His nAmams is <em>swayam purushArtham<\/em> (that itself is the goal), because, for the goal of reaching Him we have already surrendered to His lotus feet with the help of AchAryan (and <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmanujar<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAngaL\u00a0 <\/strong>(&#8216;we&#8217;) <strong>nam pAvaikku <\/strong>(For Our nOnbu)<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We&#8217; who won&#8217;t be able to bear it if we don&#8217;t say your nAmam;<\/p>\n<p>they are happy about them being able to talk about and also meet <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">krishNan<\/a> as till yesterday the elders were policing even their hearts;<\/p>\n<p><strong>pAvaikku<\/strong> &#8211; The nOnbu that we are doing while at present when we are not able to be with the prApyam (krishNan);<\/p>\n<p><strong>pAvaikku chARRi nIrAdinAl <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With nOnbu as the front\/reason, if we take bath to quench the feeling due to our separation from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">krishNan<\/a>; with nOnbu as the front\/reason, if we meet krishNan and enjoy with Him;<\/p>\n<p><strong>pEr pAdi &#8211; nIrAdinAl<\/strong> &#8211; if we mingle with krishNan with the knowledge of our (ever-present) relationship with Him (<em>sambandha gyAna pUrvakam<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>thIngu inRi nAdellAm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(if we take bath &#8211; merge with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">krishNan<\/a>) this place would get rid of all its problems, all will live well with their people (as a side-benefit (where not the focus is), of doing kainkaryam (where the focus is)); like how in rAma rAjyam people lived well not because of their puNyas (good karma), but with the bhAgyam of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAL<\/a> (rAman),<\/p>\n<p><strong>ellAm<\/strong>: not only this place, but all the places associated to this place also would live well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thIngu inRi<\/strong>: feeling of svAthanthriyam (feeling independent of perumAn), giving too much importance to body and material comforts, etc., will all be averted with His blessings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thingaL\u00a0 mummAri peidhu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Without drought or flood \u2013 three cycles in a month &#8211; of nine-days\u2019 sunlight and 1-day&#8217;s rain which would benefit the place;<\/p>\n<p>we who are having the three characteristics of 1) ananyArha sEshathvam, 2) ananya sharaNathvam, and 3) ananyabhOgyathvam<strong>;<\/strong> whereas it might suffice to have goodness with just one such person, here we are so many of us with these characteristics making all of us very happy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ongu perum sennel Udu kayalugaLa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(because of good rains) the paddy crops would also quickly grow like the ulagaLandha <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAL<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Udu kayal ugaLa<\/strong> \u2013 The fish having grown big like baby elephants would not be able jump around easily as they are restricted in between the well-grown paddy; like how the devotees who see the sarvEshwaran (god of all) the ulagaLandha <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAL<\/a>, would be awe-struck by His beauty and won&#8217;t move.<\/p>\n<p>Like how <em>mArIchA<\/em> out of fear saw <em>rAmA<\/em> in every tree after he was thrown far away by <em>rAmA<\/em>, here the gOpikAs see <em>vAmana<\/em> when they see tall grass.<\/p>\n<p>The paddy without the grain in its tip would stand straight; as it grows the grain, it would bow down its head; when a <em>sishyan<\/em> first goes to AchAryan, his head would be straight as he does not know what he does not know. As he gains <em>bhagavath gyAnam<\/em> from his <em>AchAryan<\/em>, he would conclude that he does not know anything (reality\/modesty), and his head would bow down (to his achAryan).<\/p>\n<p><strong>pUnkuvaLai pOdhil poRi vaNdu kaN paduppa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the lillies growing beautifully, the bees would happily drink the honey and lie down on the bed in the flowers and sleep elatedly; as the big fish try to go in-between the grass, the flowers would nicely shake along providing a comfortable bed for the bees; as they got into the &#8216;<em>pori<\/em>&#8216; (trap) of the flowers during their sleep as the sun comes up, the male and female bees will complain to each other saying &#8216;you did not wake me up&#8217;, &#8216;no you did not wake me up&#8217;;<\/p>\n<p>perumAn loves to stay and relax in the hearts of his sEshans.<\/p>\n<p>sishyan feels safe under AchAryan&#8217;s blessings after having done samAshryaNam.<\/p>\n<p>(after describing about the richness of the paddy, now it is describing about the well-being of AyppAdi)<\/p>\n<p><strong>thEnagadhE pukkirundhu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Like how thiruvadi (hanuman) jumped across the ocean without any hesitation, the people even after seeing that the cows are giving too much of milk, would go and milk the cow without any hesitation (the cows are so much healthy that an ordinary person might hesitate to go near it for fear of not catching all the milk).<\/p>\n<p><strong>irundhu<\/strong> &#8211; \u00a0milk is always available with the cows<\/p>\n<p><strong>thEngAdhE<\/strong> \u2013 without any hesitation a sishyan would<\/p>\n<p><strong>pukkirundhu<\/strong> &#8211; go inside the AchAryan&#8217;s thirumALigai (and learn)<\/p>\n<p><strong>sIrththa mulai paRRi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The cows are so healthy in AyppAdi that it is not possible for the people to milk the cows just with their fingers \u2013 they have to use both their hands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>paRRi vAnga<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Those cows are so healthy, they would give so much milk just with touching and removing of the hands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAngak kudam niraikkum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just by touching, the cows would fill the containers so fast, that one has to keep changing those containers to catch all the milk; if they don&#8217;t change them fast it won&#8217;t be the fault of the cows \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn <\/a>is also pouring his love, it is for the people to catch it as quickly and eagerly as they can.<\/p>\n<p>AchAryan, like cow&#8217;s udder, gives us the gyAnam of the lotus feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vaLLal\u00a0 <\/strong>(kind \/ generous)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; because of the above (giving milk)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; these cows are like <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">krishNan<\/a>; how the gOpikAs would tie a letter around His neck and ask Him to go as messenger, the cows also are standing amicable for the boys to tie it, direct it, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; AchAryan is kind, who connects the sishyan with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perumAn<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>perum pasukkaL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They are the great cows &#8211; they live not based on just the grass and water, but based on kind and friendly touch of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">krishNan<\/a>. They have listened to so much of krishNan&#8217;s flute while casually chewing and digesting their food; this is how S<em>athrunjayan<\/em> the elephant of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chakravarthi thirumagan (rAman)<\/a> also grew up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nIngAdha selvam niRaindhu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(if we did the nOnbu), this place will get all the wealth, unlimited wealth, the wealth that will always stay with the people; because it accumulated with the blessings of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a>. (selvam: kainkarya selvam).<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the limits placed by <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sarvEswaran<\/a> on our good and bad based on our puNya and pApA, here we would get ever-lasting goodness through these gOpikAs, similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sItha pirAttiyAr<\/a> saying &#8216;<em>pApAnAm vA subhAnAm vA<\/em>&#8216; (will be kind whether person has done good or bad).<\/p>\n<p>May we get the ever-lasting wealth that is AchAryan&#8217;s thiruvadi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>El Or em pAvAi<\/strong> \u2013 think about this and follow our path.<\/p>\n<p>In this pAsuram, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/16\/andal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANdAL<\/a> says that as they do nOnbu, the whole place will become rich with paddy crops, and other good things would happen for the people.
