Hence, he is called \u2018parigraha:\u2019. This trait of holding the souls and not letting them go is shown when rAma granted paramapadham to all of his relatives, denizens of ayOdhya, their relatives, the demigods that they worshipped, gardens, trees, grass, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures say that bhagavAn grants paramapadham to every soul who is affectionate about him in all of his incarnations.<\/p>\n<p>This fully shows rAma\u2019s divine quality called sauSeelyam or affability.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn holds every soul with equanimity both here and hereafter, he is called \u2018parigraha:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0907\u0939\u093e\u092e\u0941\u0924\u094d\u0930 \u0938\u092e\u0902 \u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0917\u094d\u0930\u0939\u0923\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0917\u094d\u0930\u0939\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>422) <u>ugra:<\/u> (\u0909\u0917\u094d\u0930\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Thereafter, the divine names of kalki \u2013 who is dormant in pAthALa, and who is the destroyer of all bad elements with bad character and wrongful deeds \u2013 are hailed.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of this yuga (kaliyuga), when people indulge heavily in committing sins, and when the varna-ASrama dharmas decline, bhagavAn appears as kalki with a fierce form. Hence he is called \u2018ugra:\u2019 \u2013 the fierce one.<\/p>\n<p>The root \u2018ucha\u2019 \u0909\u091a (to collect) gets the \u2018ran\u2019 (\u0930\u0928\u094d) adjunct per grammatical rules, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>The manthra varNas hailing kalki bhagavAn say thus: \u201c\u2026to that destroyer, and the blazing fire of time\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The paushkara Samhitha says thus: \u201ckalki is verily bhagavAn vishNu. He incarnates when the dharmas decline with an intention to eliminate the evil minded souls from the face of this earth in this kali yuga\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who appears in the form of kalki when the dharmas decline and slays the evil souls and thus protects this world is called as \u2018ugra:\u2019 by the learned men.<\/p>\n<p>\u0928\u0937\u094d\u091f\u0946 \u0927\u0930\u094d\u092e\u0946 \u0915\u0932\u094d\u0915\u093f\u0930\u0942\u092a\u094a \u0939\u094d\u092f\u0935\u0924\u0940\u0930\u094d\u092f \u092e\u0939\u0940\u092d\u0943\u0924\u0903 |<br \/>\u092e\u094d\u0932\u0946\u091a\u094d\u091b\u093e\u0926\u0940\u0928\u094d \u0939\u0924\u0935\u093e\u0928\u094d \u092f\u094as\u0938\u094c \u0909\u0917\u094d\u0930 \u0907\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0941\u091a\u094d\u092f\u0924\u0946 \u092c\u0941\u0927\u0948\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>423) <u>samvathsara:<\/u> (\u0938\u0902\u0935\u0924\u094d\u0938\u0930\u0903) (also repeated in 92)<\/p>\n<p>Since bhagavAn waits for the right time, resting on AdhiSEsha in the pAthALa lOka, he is called \u2018samvathsara:\u2019 \u2013 the one who rests.<\/p>\n<p>The root word \u2018vasathi\u2019 \u0935\u0938\u0924\u093f (to rest or to reside) gets the \u2018saM=m\u2019 (\u0938\u092e\u094d) prefix and the \u2018sara:\u2019 (\u0938\u0930\u0903) adjunct, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>All the scriptures hail bhagavAn thus in his meditative hymn:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201c\u2026him, who reclines on the serpent bed AdhiSEsha\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c\u2026he who is surrounded by the embodiments of his divine weapons such as the chakra, etc\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: With all the tools for destruction, and waiting for the right time, since bhagavAn rests on AdhiSEsha in the pAthALa loka, he is called \u2018samvathsara:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u0902\u0939\u093e\u0930\u0938\u094d\u092f\u094a\u092a\u0915\u0930\u0923\u0948\u0903 \u0938\u093e\u0915\u0902 \u0915\u093e\u0932\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0924\u0940\u0915\u094d\u0937\u092f\u093e |<br \/>\u0938\u0902\u0935\u0924\u094d\u0938\u0930\u0903 \u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092a\u093e\u0924\u093e\u0932\u0946s\u0928\u0928\u094d\u0924\u0946 \u0938\u0902\u0935\u0938\u0924\u0940\u0924\u093f \u0938\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>424) <u>dhaksha:<\/u> (\u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0903) (also repeated in 917)<\/p>\n<p>As hailed mahAbhAratha that says \u201ckalki shall roam around in this world continuously, slaying all evil minded souls\u201d, since bhagavAn is dexterous and quick in slaying of enemies, he is called \u2018dhaksha:\u2019 \u2013 the dexterous one. In this context, the root \u2018dhaksh\u2019 (\u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937\u094d) is taken to mean \u2018developing\u2019 or \u2018quick\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures hail \u201cjanArdhana is quick in actions\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since the root \u2018dhaksh\u2019 means \u2018swiftness\u2019, and since all the evil souls are slain by bhagavAn within a moment, that swiftly acting bhagavAn is called as \u2018dhaksha:\u2019 by the learned men.<\/p>\n<p>\u0936\u0940\u0918\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0930\u094d\u0925\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0927\u093e\u0924\u094a\u0903 \u0928\u093f\u092e\u0946\u0937\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0926\u0938\u094d\u092f\u0935\u094a \u0939\u0924\u093e\u0903 |<br \/>\u092f\u0946\u0928 \u0938\u094as\u092f\u0902 \u0936\u0940\u0918\u094d\u0930\u0915\u093e\u0930\u0940 \u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937 \u0907\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0941\u091a\u094d\u092f\u0924\u0946 \u092c\u0941\u0927\u0948\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>425) <u>viSrAma:<\/u> (\u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0930\u093e\u092e\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn is finally the resting place for all the distressed souls suffering from their sins. Hence, he is called \u2018viSrAma:\u2019 \u2013 the resting abode.<\/p>\n<p>In the sabhA parva of SrI mahAbhAratha, it is said thus: \u201cIn order to establish dharma, and for the welfare of the learned men, he incarnates in this world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn is the resting place for all the distressed souls who are suffering by committing sins and enjoying their fruits, he is called \u2018viSrAma:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092a\u093e\u092a\u093e\u0928\u093f \u0924\u0924\u094d\u092b\u0932\u093e\u0928\u094d\u092f\u0946\u0935\u0902 \u0936\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0928\u094d\u0924\u093e \u092d\u094a\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0941\u0902 \u091a \u092f\u0946 \u091c\u0928\u093e\u0903 |<br \/>\u0924\u0946\u0937\u093e\u0902 \u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0930\u093e\u092e\u092d\u0942\u092e\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0930\u093e\u092e\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>426) <u>viSvadhakshiNa:<\/u> (\u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093f\u0923\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>How can he be considered to be favoring even the evil souls? (In the previous divine name, he is shown to be the resting place for all distressed souls, and hence considered benevolent to all souls alike. How can this impartial benevolence be justified?) This question is answered in this divine name \u2013 viSvadhakshiNa:.<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn rules over all souls in this world alike, irrespective of whether they are favorable to him or otherwise. Hence, he is called \u2018viSvadhakshiNa:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The root \u2018dhakshi\u2019 (\u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093f) gets the \u2018inan\u2019 (\u0907\u0928\u0928\u094d) adjunct, resulting in this divine name. The word \u2018dhAkshiNyam\u2019 (\u0926\u093e\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093f\u0923\u094d\u092f\u092e\u094d) is itself understood as being tolerant towards even the offending souls, and thus the meaning of this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>SrI mahAbhAratha says thus: \u201cHe graces all of these worlds and takes them into his fold\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Alternately, bhagavAn also gets this divine name since he offered the entire world as a donation in the aSvamEdha yagyam. This is as shown in the AraNya parva of SrI mahAbhAratha thus: \u201cAfter having slain all the robbers, bhagavAn conducts a grand aSvamEdha yajna and dutifully offers this entire world to the brAhmaNas as a donation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who is extremely tolerant even towards his offenders is called \u2018viSvadhakshiNa:\u2019. Thus, he is called \u2018visthAra:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The root \u2018sthu\u2019 \u0938\u094d\u0924\u0943 (to extend) gets the \u2018ghanja\u2019 (\u0918\u091e) adjunct per grammatical rules, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures hail thus: \u201cThereafter, oh scion of the bharatha clan, the unrighteousness or adharma shall be destroyed, and the righteousness or dharma shall be firmly established \u2013 all at the beginning of krutha yuga.
