All others always anguish\u201d etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is called \u2018sampramardhana:\u2019 since he completely destroys the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u0924\u092e\u0938\u094a \u0935\u093f\u0926\u094d\u092f\u092f\u093e \u0938\u092e\u094d\u092f\u0915\u094d \u092e\u0930\u094d\u0926\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0938\u092e\u094d\u092a\u094d\u0930\u092e\u0930\u094d\u0926\u0928\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>234) <u>ahassamvarthaka:<\/u> (\u0905\u0939\u0938\u094d\u0938\u0902\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0924\u0915\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn is the cause of transformation of time denoted by the word \u2018aha:\u2019 \u0905\u0939\u0903 (day). Hence, he is called \u2018ahassamvarthaka:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The root \u2018vruth\u2019 \u0935\u0943\u0924\u094d (to move) gets the \u2018Nvul\u2019 (\u0923\u094d\u0935\u0941\u0932\u094d) adjunct, which further gets substituted by \u2018aka\u2019 (\u0905\u0915) by grammatical rules, resulting in the word \u2018varthaka\u2019 (\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0924\u0915).<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures hail this feat of bhagavAn thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cAll these quantities of time have born from the effulgence of bhagavAn\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cbhagavAn turns the wheel of time\u201d, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Time is of three forms \u2013 past, present and the future. It is the basis for determining the order of occurrence of various events as \u2018prior\u2019, \u2018later\u2019, etc. It is an eternal entity, which is used as a toy by bhagavAn in conducting his creations. he uses this entity called \u2018time\u2019 to determine the various transformations in the bodies of the creatures he creates \u2013 the six transformations being \u2018existence\u2019 (\u0905\u0938\u094d\u0924\u093f), \u2018birth\u2019 (\u091c\u093e\u092f\u0924\u0946), \u2018change\u2019 (\u092a\u0930\u093f\u0923\u092e\u0924\u0946), \u2018growth\u2019 (\u0935\u093f\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0927\u0924\u0946), \u2018deterioration\u2019 (\u0905\u092a\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0940\u092f\u0924\u0946) and \u2018destruction\u2019 (\u0935\u093f\u0928\u0936\u094d\u092f\u0924\u093f). Using this \u2018time\u2019, bhagavAn decides when the individual souls should be associated with a physical body in this material creation, and when it should leave the body.<\/p>\n<p>Many people consider this time as merely a organized train of transformations in the primordial nature, while many other consider it as a collection of playful actions of the supreme lord. Some others consider it as an independent entity. The following purport from the paushkara samhithA may be remembered:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cadhyAthma (\u0905\u0927\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d\u092e) tells us about time. adhidhaivatha (\u0905\u0927\u093f\u0926\u0948\u0935\u0924) represents verily bhagavAn himself, who is the cause of this creation and destruction as well as the indweller of every creature. adhibhUtha (\u0905\u0927\u093f\u092d\u0942\u0924) should be understood as the three worlds made of primordial nature, dwelled by creatures. The abstract entity called time (kAla \u0915\u093e\u0932) manifests as \u2018adhyAthma\u2019. The worship of bhagavAn (ijyA \u0907\u091c\u094d\u092f\u093e) manifests as \u2018adhidhaivatha\u2019, and the enjoyment of material creations (bhOga \u092d\u094a\u0917) manifests as \u2018adhibhUtha\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn acts as a tool that transforms time denoted by \u2018aha:\u2019 (day), which is why he is hailed as \u2018ahassamvarthaka:\u2019 by the learned men.<\/p>\n<p>\u0905\u0939\u0930\u094d\u0932\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093f\u0924\u0915\u093e\u0932\u0938\u094d\u092f \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0935\u0943\u0924\u094d\u0924\u0946\u0936\u094d\u091a \u0938\u093e\u0927\u0928\u092e\u094d |<br \/>\u0905\u0939\u0903\u0938\u0902\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0924\u0915 \u0907\u0924\u093f \u092a\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0939\u0941\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0926\u093e\u0928\u094d\u0924\u092a\u093e\u0930\u0917\u093e\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>235) <u>vahni:<\/u> (\u0935\u0939\u094d\u0928\u093f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn bears the whole creation in his body in the form of free space, and hence called \u2018vahni:\u2019 \u2013 the bearer. The root \u2018va:\u2019 \u0935\u0939\u094d (to bear) gets the \u2018nith\u2019 (\u0928\u093f\u0924\u094d) adjunct, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>The foremost space that he bears is his supreme abode SrIvaikuNtam. The others include the vast sky, directions, et al.<\/p>\n<p>This is what the scriptures have to say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHis eternal abode is in the supreme sky\u201d,<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThat eternal abode is borne with his own grandeur\u201d,<\/li>\n<li>\u201cA quarter of his vyUha forms manifested here again\u201d, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The word dhESa \u0926\u0946\u0936 (space) is the basis for demarcating boundaries as \u201cthis\u201d, \u201chere\u201d, etc. Such areas are given by bhagavAn to all of the bounded, liberated and ever-liberated souls.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is called \u2018vahni:\u2019 since he bears the whole creation in the form of space.<\/p>\n<p>\u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0938\u094d\u092f \u0926\u0946\u0936\u0930\u0942\u092a\u0946\u0923 \u0935\u0939\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0935\u0939\u094d\u0928\u093f\u0930\u0941\u091a\u094d\u092f\u0924\u0946 |<\/p>\n<p>236) <u>anila:<\/u> (\u0905\u0928\u093f\u0932\u0903) (also repeated in 818)<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the one who breathes in life into every creature and revitalizes them is called \u2018anila:\u2019 \u2013 the life force.<\/p>\n<p>The root \u2018anth\u2019 \u0905\u0928\u094d (to breathe) gets the \u2018ilach\u2019 (\u0907\u0932\u091a\u094d) adjunct, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures say thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe entity called air was born from the breath of bhagavAn\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf not for bhagavAn, who else would have breathed in life into all these creatures?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: The one who breathes in life into every creature \u2013 bound, liberated, ever-liberated \u2013 by being their life force is called \u2018anila:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092c\u0926\u094d\u0927\u093e\u0926\u0946\u094d\u0930\u0928\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092f\u094as\u0938\u094c \u0905\u0928\u093f\u0932\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>237) <u>dharaNIdhara:<\/u> (\u0927\u0930\u0923\u0940\u0927\u0930\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn bears even the other entities that bear objects \u2013 such as AdhiSEhsha, earth, etc. Hence, he is called \u2018dharaNIdhara:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures hail bhagavAn thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHe bears this earth and the sky\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOh mother earth! You are the one who was lifted up by varAha\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cbhagavAn purushoththama created these entities such as earth, sky, heaven etc merely by his sankalpa Sakthi (decision). He is the one who places all of them under his influence and controls them.\u201d etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: The earth bears all the creatures\/entities. since bhagavAn bears this earth itself, he is called \u2018dharaNIdhara:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092d\u0942\u0924\u0927\u093e\u0924\u094d\u0930\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0936\u094d\u091a \u0927\u0930\u0923\u0946\u0930\u094d\u0927\u093e\u0930\u0923\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0927\u0930\u0923\u0940\u0927\u0930\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>===============================<br \/>\u0938\u0941\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0938\u093e\u0926\u0903 \u092a\u094d\u0930\u0938\u0928\u094d\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d\u092e\u093e \u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0938\u0943\u0917\u094d\u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u092d\u0941\u0917\u094d\u0935\u093f\u092d\u0941\u0903 \u0964<br \/>\u0938\u0924\u094d\u0915\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093e \u0938\u0924\u094d\u0915\u0943\u0924\u0903 \u0938\u093e\u0927\u0941\u0930\u094d\u091c\u0939\u094d\u0928\u0941\u0930\u094d\u0928\u093e\u0930\u093e\u092f\u0923\u094a \u0928\u0930\u0903 \u0965 \u0968\u096c \u0965<br \/>===============================<\/p>\n<p>238) <u>suprasAdha:<\/u> (\u0938\u0941\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0938\u093e\u0926\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>The one who thus shows love and kindness towards all devotees who worship him is called \u2018suprasAdha:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The SvEthEshvathara upanishath says: \u201cBy his grace alone, the jIvAthma sees him by getting rid of all sinful actions\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The vishNu purANa quotes mAlAkAra, who exclaims \u201cBehold! Those supreme masters \u2013 krishNa and balarAma \u2013 who grant the wishes of all their devotees have come to my house today!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These statements and more go on to show bhagavAn\u2019s mercy and love towards his devotees.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn most mercifully grants the wishes of his dear devotees, he is called \u2018suprasAdha:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0938\u093e\u0926\u092a\u0930\u092e\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u091a\u094d\u091a \u0938\u0941\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0938\u093e\u0926\u0903 \u092a\u094d\u0930\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>239) <u>prasannAthmA<\/u> (\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0938\u0928\u094d\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d\u092e\u093e)<\/p>\n<p>For the same reason, he is also called \u2018prasannAthmA\u2019 \u2013 the one whose wishes are ever fulfilled and hence who is free from transformations of the mind such as desire, anger, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The vEdhas hail bhagavAn as the one whose wishes are unfaltering and ever fulfilled. They also hail bhagavAn as the one who is filled with ever lasting peace.<\/p>\n<p>An entity that has some desires that are yet to be fulfilled would be incomplete and it would never be easy to please such a one.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Having attained all his desires, the one whose mind is ever free from transformations such as desire, anger etc. is called \u2018prasannAthmA\u2019.
