The word \u2018grAma\u2019 here refers to the divine assembly of liberated and ever-liberated souls at SrI vaikuntam.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who ultimately leads his devotees into a divine assembly of nithyasUris and the liberated souls at SrI vaikuntam is called \u2018grAmaNI:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0917\u094d\u0930\u093e\u092e\u0902 \u0938\u092e\u093e\u091c\u0902 \u0938\u0942\u0930\u0940\u0923\u093e\u0902 \u0928\u092f\u0924\u093f \u0917\u094d\u0930\u093e\u092e\u0923\u0940\u0936\u094d\u091a \u0938\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>222) <u>SrImAn<\/u> (\u0936\u094d\u0930\u0940\u092e\u093e\u0928\u094d) (also repeated in 22, 180)<\/p>\n<p>As the scriptures hail, bhagavAn clearly showed his absolute supremacy even in his incarnation as fish with his lotus eyes. The scriptures say \u2018bhagavAn as mathsya possesses lotus eyes\u2019 (\u092e\u0924\u094d\u0938\u094d\u092f\u0903 \u0915\u092e\u0932\u0932\u094a\u091a\u0928\u0903).<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Even in his form as mathsya, bhagavAn is called \u2018SrImAn\u2019 due to his possession of lotus like eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u092e\u0924\u094d\u0938\u094d\u092f\u0930\u0942\u092a\u093e\u0935\u0924\u093e\u0930\u0946s\u092a\u093f \u0936\u094d\u0930\u0940\u092e\u093e\u0928\u094d \u0915\u092e\u0932\u0928\u0946\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>223) <u>nyAya:<\/u> (\u0928\u094d\u092f\u093e\u092f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Since bhagavAn is the one who does only things that are befitting, he is called \u2018nyAya:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is called \u2018nyAya:\u2019 since he does only such things that are favorable and befitting \u2013 especially to his devotees.<\/p>\n<p>\u0928\u094d\u092f\u093e\u092f\u094a \u0939\u093f \u092f\u0941\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0915\u093e\u0930\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0946\u0937\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0937 \u0935\u093f\u0936\u0946\u0937\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>224) <u>nEthA<\/u> (\u0928\u0946\u0924\u093e)<\/p>\n<p>Since bhagavAn completes the work of his devotees, he is called \u2018nEthA\u2019. This divine name shows bhagavAn\u2019s capacity of steadfastness in completing his devotees\u2019 works.<\/p>\n<p>After all, it was most befitting for him to drown under water in order to safeguard his great devotees and take them ashore.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: Since bhagavAn diligently does even the work delegated to him by his devotees, he is called \u2018nEthA\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0948\u0930\u094d\u0928\u093f\u092f\u0941\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0902 \u092f\u0924\u094d\u0915\u0930\u094d\u092e \u0928\u0946\u0924\u093e \u0924\u0924\u094d\u0915\u093e\u0930\u0923\u093e\u0926\u092a\u093f |<\/p>\n<p>225) <u>samIraNa:<\/u> (\u0938\u092e\u0940\u0930\u0923\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>The one who displays adorable deeds is called \u2018samIraNa:\u2019. The root \u2018Ira\u2019 (\u0908\u0930) gets the meaning of \u2018movement\u2019 in this context. The scriptures hail thus:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaking up the form of a fish, bhagavAn immediately entered the rasAthala (one of the fourteen worlds) and recovered the vEdhas from the asuras. He is truly the form of vEdhas. his divine auspicious qualities such as knowledge etc adore bhagavAn\u2019s divine fish body in the form of his fins. his pride born out of his absolute supremacy shines forth as the horn on that fish (as in a unicorn). One should always essentially contemplate upon that mathsya mUrthy, who \u2013 at the time of praLaya \u2013 lead the boat containing the manu, rishIs and some important herbs to safety by tying it to his horn and swimming across. His divine form is comparable to a pure pearl. It is completely faultless. bhagavAn doesn\u2019t close his eyes in his form as a fish. He is the one with controlled talk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is hailed as \u2018samIraNa:\u2019 due to his tendency to act as per his devotees\u2019 wishes.<\/p>\n<p>\u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0946\u0937\u094d\u091f\u091a\u0946\u0937\u094d\u091f\u093e\u0936\u0940\u0932\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0938\u092e\u0940\u0930\u0923 \u0909\u0926\u093e\u0939\u0943\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>226, 227, 228, 229) <u>sahasramUrdhA<\/u> <u>viSvAthmA<\/u> <u>sahasrAksha:<\/u> <u>sahasrapAth<\/u> (\u0938\u0939\u0938\u094d\u0930\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0927\u093e \u0935\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d\u092e\u093e \u0938\u0939\u0938\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0903 \u0938\u0939\u0938\u094d\u0930\u092a\u093e\u0924\u094d)<\/p>\n<p>Thence, the divine forms of bhagavAn as described in the texts expounding the supreme soul such as in purusha sUktha etc are hailed in the forthcoming divine names \u2013 starting with \u2018sahasramUrdhA\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>sahasramUrdhA means the one who possesses thousand(s of) heads. The mention of \u2018mUrdhA\u2019 (head) is indicative of other senses and limbs such as eyes, legs, etc, \u00a0which are tools for knowledge and action. This is explicit in the two names \u2018sahasrAksha:\u2019 and \u2018sahasrapAth\u2019 as well. The word \u2018sahasra\u2019 (thousand) doesn\u2019t limit it to the numeral \u2018one thousand\u2019; rather, it intends to show \u2018infinite\u2019 heads, eyes, limbs etc.<\/p>\n<p>These names remind us of the vEdhic declarations that say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cbhagavAn has eyes all over, and he sees everything at once\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cbhagavAn\u2019s hands and legs are all around, his eyes, heads are all around\u201d etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All these statements and more only show us bhagavAn\u2019s unbounded capability of knowing everything and doing every action at all places at all times. This is not only befitting of his stature, but also well accepted by all SAsthras.<\/p>\n<p>With such unbounded knowledge and actions, since bhagavAn permeates the whole creation, he is called \u2018viSvAthmA\u2019 \u2013 the indweller of the world. The purushasUktha hails thus, in support of this: \u201cHaving permeated the whole world, covering it from all sides\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures further declare thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201c\u2026 in all these creatures he stands as the indweller\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c\u2026 by whom all of this creation is sewed and held together\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOh arjuna, I am indeed the indweller of every creature\u201d, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: The word \u2018sahasra\u2019 is said to indicate infinity. Thus, the one with infinite heads is called \u2018sahasramUrdhA\u2019. He is the one who is hailed by this divine name (sahasraSIrshA) in the purushasUktha and other vEdhic hymns. The words \u2018akshi\u2019 (eye) and \u2018pAdha\u2019 (leg) are indicative of bhagavAn\u2019s faculties collectively (both sense and action respectively). The one who possesses infinite knowledge and actions with such faculties is hailed by the divine names \u2018sahasrAksha:\u2019 and \u2018sahasrapAth\u2019.
