All the seven rishis and SrAdhdha dhEva (manu) were made to enter a boat, along with the seeds of all required plants. The boat was tied to the horn of the great fish using the serpent called vAsuki. bhagavAn protected them all in the form of the fish till the praLayam ended. At the same time, the four faced brahmA had lost the vEdhas while he slept. mathsya mUrthi also protected the vEdhas from the demon named \u2018hayagrIva\u2019 and returned them to brahmA. This is the story behind the incarnation of mathsya. All these divine names hailing the incarnation of fish fit into this context).<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who supported both the sentient and insentient entities during the naimiththika praLaya is called \u2018dhAma:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u091a\u0930\u093e\u091a\u0930\u0927\u093e\u0930\u0924\u092f\u093e \u0927\u093e\u092e\u0946\u0924\u093f \u092a\u0930\u093f\u091a\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0924\u0946 |<\/p>\n<p>213) <u>sathya:<\/u> (\u0938\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0903) (also repeated in 107, 873)<\/p>\n<p>The one who favored manu (SrAdhdha dhEva) and others who sought his refuge at the time of praLaya is called \u2018sathya:\u2019 \u2013 the favorable one for his devotees.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: bhagavAn is called \u2018sathya:\u2019 since he was most favorable for his devotees such as manu and others, who sought refuge in him.<\/p>\n<p>\u092e\u0928\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0926\u093f\u0937\u094d\u0935\u092a\u093f \u0938\u093e\u0927\u0941\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0938\u0924\u094d\u092f \u0907\u0924\u094d\u092f\u092d\u093f\u0926\u0940\u092f\u0924\u0946 |<\/p>\n<p>214) <u>sathyaparAkrama:<\/u> (\u0938\u0924\u094d\u092f\u092a\u0930\u093e\u0915\u094d\u0930\u092e\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn\u2019s words and deeds towards manu and others were never deceitful. Hence he is called \u2018sathyaparAkrama:\u2019. The word \u2018sathya\u2019 means non-deceitful. parAkrama means act (noble-act).<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one whose deeds are non-deceitful is called \u2018sathyaparAkrama:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0935\u0943\u0924\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0930\u094d\u0939\u094d\u092f\u0915\u0948\u0924\u0935\u093e \u092f\u0938\u094d\u092f \u0938 \u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0938\u0924\u094d\u092f\u092a\u0930\u093e\u0915\u094d\u0930\u092e\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>(NOTE: The non-deceitfulness in words and deeds referred here is thus: bhagavAn was born as a small fish and reached the hands of SrAdhdha dhEva, and asked him to protect it. When it grew rapidly beyond comprehension, SrAdhdha dhEva enquired who it was. Then bhagavAn revealed his divine form as the fish and advised him that the naimiththika praLaya would ensue on the seventh day from then. He also promised that he would protect them on a boat in the waters of praLaya. Since he kept up his word, and showed his prowess in the mighty waters of praLaya, he is called \u2018sathyaparAkrama:\u2019).<\/p>\n<p>215) <u>nimisha:<\/u> (\u0928\u093f\u092e\u093f\u0937\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Since bhagavAn closes his eyes towards the opponents of his devotees and doesn\u2019t even glance at them, he is called \u2018nimisha:\u2019 \u2013 the one who closes his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who doesn\u2019t even glance at the opponents of his devotees (and hence doesn\u2019t bless them) is called \u2018nimisha:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0935\u093f\u0930\u094a\u0927\u093f\u0928\u0903 \u0938\u0924\u093e\u0902 \u092f\u094as\u0938\u094c \u0928\u0946\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0924\u0946 \u0928\u093f\u092e\u093f\u0937\u0936\u094d\u091a \u0938\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>216) <u>animisha:<\/u> (\u0905\u0928\u093f\u092e\u093f\u0937\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Who is such a one? He is \u2018animisha:\u2019 \u2013 the one who never closes his eyes! Since bhagavAn is ever alert in protecting his devotees and never closes his eyes even for a fraction of a second to blink, he is called \u2018animisha:\u2019. He is the one who sports the divine form of a fish (fish never closes its eyes).<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who is ever awake and alert in protecting his devotees is called \u2018animisha:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u0926\u094d\u0930\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0923\u0946 \u091c\u093e\u0917\u0930\u0942\u0915\u0903 \u0938\u094d\u092e\u0943\u0924\u094a \u0939\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093f\u092e\u093f\u0937\u0936\u094d\u091a \u0938\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>217) <u>sragvI<\/u> (\u0938\u094d\u0930\u0917\u094d\u0935\u0940)<\/p>\n<p>Although born in a thiryak yOni (animal birth) as a fish, since bhagavAn is inseparably associated with the garland named vaijayanthI \u2013 which is indicative of his supremacy, he is called \u2018sragvI\u2019 \u2013 the decorated one.<\/p>\n<p>The root \u2018sraj\u2019 (\u0938\u094d\u0930\u091c\u094d) gets the \u2018vini\u2019 (\u0935\u093f\u0928\u093f\u0903) adjunct as per the aphorism \u2018\u0905\u0938\u094d\u092e\u093e\u092f\u093e\u092e\u0946\u0927\u093e\u0938\u094d\u0930\u091c\u094a \u0935\u093f\u0928\u093f\u0903\u2019, resulting in this divine name.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The ornament (garland) called vaijayanthI (\u0935\u0948\u091c\u092f\u0928\u094d\u0924\u0940) is an indicator of absolute supremacy.
