The meaning of this word is derived from the common etymology \u201cthe one who manifests everywhere\u201d. This means to say he incarnates and manifests himself before all creatures at all times, all places and all forms \u2013 such as in mathsya, kUrma, varAha, nArasimha, vAmana, rAma, krishNa et al so as to repeat the grandeur of every incarnation many times in countless ways.<\/p>\n<p>This is shown by the scriptures thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201c\u2026 he\u00a0 incarnates many times\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMany of my births have passed\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWhenever there is downfall of righteousness, oh scion of bharatha!\u00a0 I shall incarnate then to uphold it\u201d, et al.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: Although well hidden like a treasure, the one who incarnates in many ways in all places in many forms such as rAma, krishna\u00a0 et al. is called \u2018sambhava:\u2019 .<\/p>\n<p>\u0928\u093f\u0927\u093f\u0935\u0924\u094d \u091a \u0905\u0924\u093f\u0917\u0942\u0922\u094as\u092a\u093f \u0930\u093e\u092e\u0915\u0943\u0937\u094d\u0923\u093e\u0926\u093f \u092d\u0946\u0926\u0924\u0903 |<br \/>\n\u0938\u092e\u0928\u094d\u0924\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092c\u0939\u0941\u0927\u093e \u091c\u093e\u0924\u0903 \u0938\u092e\u094d\u092d\u0935\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>32. bhAvana: \u00a0(\u092d\u093e\u0935\u0928\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Having manifested thus, since he\u00a0 revives all creatures by warding off all ominous things, he\u00a0 is called \u2018bhAvana:\u2019 \u2013 the one who nurtures and protects.<\/p>\n<p>The bhagavath gIthA\u00a0 verse says thus in this context: \u201cIn order to protect the righteous men, destroy the evil, and establish dharma , I shall be born in every\u00a0 yuga&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who protects all creatures by being born is called\u00a0 \u2018bhAvana:\u2019 .<\/p>\n<p>\u091c\u0928\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0935\u093e \u0909\u091c\u094d\u091c\u0940\u0935\u092f\u0924\u093f \u092f\u094a \u091c\u0928\u093e\u0928\u094d \u0938\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092d\u093e\u0935\u0928\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0941 \u0938\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>33. bharthA: \u00a0(\u092d\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093e)<\/p>\n<p>He is called \u2018bharthA\u2019 \u2013 the one who bears, since he\u00a0 gives himself unto his devotees and bears to nurture them.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: He who nurtures them (the creatures) by giving himself\u00a0 unto them is called \u2018bharthA:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u092f\u0903 \u0924\u093e\u0928\u094d \u092a\u0941\u0937\u094d\u0923\u093e\u0924\u093f \u0906\u0924\u094d\u092e\u0926\u093e\u0928\u093e\u0924\u094d \u0938 \u092d\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093e \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>34. prabhava: \u00a0(\u092a\u094d\u0930\u092d\u0935\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Since all of\u00a0 his births are extraordinary and magnificent, he\u00a0 is called \u2018prabhava:\u2019 \u2013 the magnificently born. (\u0905\u0938\u094d\u092f \u092d\u0935\u0903 \u092a\u094d\u0930\u0915\u0943\u0937\u094d\u091f\u0903 \u0907\u0924\u093f \u092a\u094d\u0930\u092d\u0935\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>bhagavAn\u00a0 gets this name due to his births being clearly distinguished from that of the dhEvas, manushyas et al., without even the smallest connection with faults, and also since just by knowing him\u00a0 in those forms, the creatures shall be rid from all of their birth cycles.<\/p>\n<p>The scriptures say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHe who has no birth by destiny is born many times out of his\u00a0 own free will\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe truly knowledgeable scholars know him\u00a0 in every birth of his !\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cEven without getting into the womb of a mother, even without taking the various births, bhagavAn SrI krishNa\u00a0 grants the supreme abode to all just by his own splendor.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cyudhishtira\u00a0 concluded krishNa\u00a0 to be the supreme one due to his\u00a0 being beyond the scriptural injunctions, eternal, the one without births \u2013 yet being born in many ways out of his\u00a0 own free will.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe one who knows my divine births and deeds in all reality, he doesn\u2019t return to this cycle of births and deaths when he leaves his current body; such a one indeed attains me,\u00a0 arjuna!\u201d et al.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: Since his\u00a0 births are distinguished from those of dhEvas\u00a0 and manushyas , since his births are truly magnificent, since he\u00a0 is repulsive to ignorance and other faults, he is called \u2018prabhava:\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u0926\u0946\u0935\u093e\u0926\u093f\u091c\u0928\u0935\u0948\u091c\u093e\u0924\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092a\u094d\u0930\u0915\u0943\u0937\u094d\u091f\u094as\u0924\u094d\u092a\u0924\u094d\u0924\u093f\u092e\u0924\u094d\u0924\u094d\u0935\u0924\u0903 |<br \/>\n\u0905\u0935\u093f\u0926\u094d\u092f\u093e-\u0926\u094a\u0937-\u0935\u0948\u0927\u0941\u0930\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0924\u094d \u092a\u094d\u0930\u092d\u0935\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>35. prabhu:(\u092a\u094d\u0930\u092d\u0941\u0903) (Also repeated in 300)<\/p>\n<p>Although being born in many ways similar to human et al, which are not fully independent, he is\u00a0 \u2018prabhu:\u2019\u2013 the almighty.<\/p>\n<p>The adjunct\u00a0 \u2018du:\u2019(\u0921\u0941\u0903) is added to the root \u2018bhU\u2019, resulting in this name.<\/p>\n<p>He is not attained even by the dhEvas, yet capable of conferring the various fruits such as wealth, position, and other befitting enjoyments and punishments to all creatures.<\/p>\n<p>This purpose of\u00a0 bhagavAn is very clear in the illustrations of\u00a0 chinthayanthi, SiSupAla et al, who were all granted the attainment of mOksham, where he was united with them.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who is capable of conferring all that is desired by all creatures starting from brahmA , such as material enjoyments as well as salvation, is called\u00a0 \u2018prabhu:\u2019 . Thi manthra grants all desired fruits.<\/p>\n<p>\u092c\u094d\u0930\u0939\u094d\u092e\u093e\u0926\u0940\u0928\u093e\u0902 \u091a \u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0937\u093e\u0902 \u092d\u094a\u0917-\u092e\u094a\u0915\u094d\u0937-\u0938\u092e\u0930\u094d\u092a\u0923\u0946 |<br \/>\n\u0938\u092e\u0930\u094d\u0925\u0903 \u092a\u094d\u0930\u092d\u0941\u0930\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0941\u0915\u094d\u0924\u0903 \u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0946\u0937\u094d\u091f\u092b\u0932\u0926\u094a \u092e\u0928\u0941\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>36. ISvara: \u00a0(\u0908\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0930\u0903) (also repeated in 75)<\/p>\n<p>Thus, even though he\u00a0 is the supreme lord , since His magnificence is of better use in\u00a0 his various births, he is called \u2018ISvara:\u2019 \u2013 the one who rules.<\/p>\n<p>This is as per the scriptural statements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHaving taken up the body of a human\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThey know my supreme nature\u201d \u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI am indeed the ruler of all creatures even in my various births\u201d, et al.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: Even in incarnations as human and other lower births, his\u00a0 splendor is of great use even to the four faced brahmA and others. It is possible since he is \u2018svayambhU: \u2013 the one who is born out of his own free will. The root \u2018bhU\u2019 suffixed with the \u2018kvip\u2019 (\u0915\u094d\u0935\u093f\u092a\u094d) adjunct as per the grammar rule \u2018\u092d\u0941\u0935\u0903 \u0938\u0902\u091c\u094d\u091e\u093e\u0902\u0924\u0930\u092f\u094a\u0903\u2019 indicates voluntary indulgence.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 supreme lord\u00a0 is born in various incarnations only for the sake of displaying his\u00a0 divine deeds by manifesting himself in his own extraordinary and glorious nature in various births such as\u00a0 dhEva, , manushya , et al., making them his own, out of his own free will. He does not take birth like the other individual souls such as the four faced brahmA or Siva or anyone else \u2013 due to karma, and servile to some other entity.<\/p>\n<p>This is as said in the scriptures thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe\u00a0 supreme\u00a0 one who is born out of\u00a0 his own free will for the sake of his\u00a0 devotees\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI manifest in my own supreme nature\u00a0 (prakruthi) and take birth with my own mAyA\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this statement of bhagavath gIthA\u00a0 (\u092a\u094d\u0930\u0915\u0943\u0924\u093f\u0902 \u0938\u094d\u0935\u093e\u092e\u0927\u093f\u0937\u094d\u0920\u093e\u092f)\u00a0 bhagavAn\u00a0 highlights the fact that although the lower nature comprising of the three qualities namely sathva , rajas and thamas , in addition to the individual souls being bound in it is\u00a0 his own, the other nature of his \u2013 which is supreme \u2013 is exclusively for his enjoyment and ownership. That is why he uses the term \u2018my supreme nature\u2019 (prakruthim svAm).<\/p>\n<p>This is further endorsed in the\u00a0 SrI hari vamsam in the context of bhagavAn bringing back the lost sons of a brAhmaNa. In this context, while bhagavAn\u00a0 explains his two natures to arjuna , he says thus:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBehold! You have now seen that supreme abode of mine which is splendorous, awe inspiring and divine. I am verily that supreme entity whom you saw there, oh best of bharatha clan! That supreme effulgence of mine is eternal. That supreme nature of mine, oh scion of bharatha clan, is of two types \u2013 manifest as well as hidden. The individual souls who enter into that supreme nature are thence called \u2018liberated souls \u201c(mukthAthmA)\u201d .<\/p>\n<p>This is more pronounced in SrI\u00a0 vishNu thathvam , where it first explains the five energies (\u092a\u091e\u094d\u091a\u0936\u0915\u094d\u0924\u093f) and thereafter says thus:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll incarnations of that great soul such as mathsya\u00a0 (fish), kUrma (turtle), varAha (boar) et al are totally comprised of these five energies only, oh best of\u00a0 brAhmaNas! No incarnation of his is contrary to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The vishNu purANa\u00a0 clearly extols the extraordinary nature of the reason for his\u00a0 incarnations, the cause of his incarnations, the time and chronology of his\u00a0 incarnations etc with SlOkas such as \u2018\u0938\u092e\u0938\u094d\u0924\u093e\u0903 \u0936\u0915\u094d\u0924\u092f\u0936\u094d\u091a \u090e\u0924\u093e\u0903\u2019 etc.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SrI rAmAyanam says thus: \u201cVerily that supreme self\u00a0 who is the master of all worlds incarnated as SrI rAma\u00a0 out of his desire for the wellbeing of all his subjects.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cVerily that\u00a0 supreme lord vishNu\u00a0 was born in the world of humans on account of the prayers from the demigods \u2013 who were keen on killing rAvaNa\u201d \u201d.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe was born by himself\u2026\u201d , et al.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: The one who is born out of his\u00a0 own free will (and not bound by karmas) is called svayambhU: .<\/p>\n<p>\u092d\u0935\u0924\u093f \u0938\u094d\u0935\u0946\u091a\u094d\u091b\u092f\u093e \u092f\u094as\u0938\u094c \u0938\u094d\u0935\u092f\u092e\u094d\u092d\u0942\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>38. Sambhu: \u00a0(\u0936\u092e\u094d\u092d\u0941\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the one who displays his\u00a0 beauty, excellence of disposition, and other superior characteristics, and thus generates happiness among his subjects is called Sambhu: \u2013 the giver of happiness.<\/p>\n<p>This is as per the scriptural verses that say thus: \u201c\u2026 the one who sees the whole creation, and the one who grants happiness among the creatures therein\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is further elaborated in other statements such as these:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one who steals the sight and minds of men by displaying his\u00a0 transcendental form and the most auspicious qualities, that moon faced rAma\u00a0 \u2013 who has the most pleasing form for the eyes of the onlookers\u2026\u201d et al.<\/p>\n<p>Etymology: The one who grants a lot of happiness among all souls by showing the transcendental beauty of his\u00a0 divine form, and his auspicious qualities is called \u2018Sambhu:\u2019 .<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0938\u094c\u0928\u094d\u0926\u0930\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0926\u093f \u0917\u0941\u0923\u093e\u0928\u093e\u0902 \u092f\u094a \u0939\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0935\u093f\u0937\u094d\u0915\u093e\u0930\u0946\u0923 \u0936\u0902 \u0938\u0941\u0916\u092e\u094d |<br \/>\n\u092a\u0941\u0902\u0938\u093e\u0902 \u0938\u092e\u094d\u092f\u0915\u094d \u092d\u093e\u0935\u092f\u0924\u093f \u0938 \u0936\u092e\u094d\u092d\u0941\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 ||<\/p>\n<p>39. Adhithya: (\u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>Thereafter, the source of all such manifestations is shown to be the indweller of the sun with this name\u00a0 \u2018Adhithya: \u2013 the one whose abode is the sun.<\/p>\n<p>The grammatical rule \u2018\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0946\u0924\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0926\u093f\u0928\u093e \u0923\u094d\u092f\u0903\u2019 used here suggests the usage of \u2018Nya\u2019 adjunct to mean \u2018residence\u2019 in this context.<\/p>\n<p>The same basis is reinforced even in the brahma mImAmsA or brahma sUthra thus: \u201cHe is the indweller, since He is referred to by the qualities\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The other scriptural statements also iterate the same thus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHe is seen as the golden hued purusha, the indweller of sun\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe one who indwells this individual soul, and the one who indwells this sun, they are both the same. (The indweller is only one)\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe one who resides in the center of the sun is to be meditated upon\u201d, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Having illustrated with these statements, the chAndhOgya upanishath\u00a0 finally describes him thus: \u201c\u2026.of Him, who is the indweller of sun, and who possesses beautiful eyes like the lotus just blossomed by the fresh rays of sun\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etymology: The one whose abode is the sun is called\u00a0 \u2018Adhithya:\u2019 .<\/p>\n<p>\u0928\u093f\u0935\u093e\u0938\u0903 \u0938\u0935\u093f\u0924\u093e \u092f\u0938\u094d\u092f \u0938 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0903 \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0915\u0940\u0930\u094d\u0924\u093f\u0924\u0903 |<\/p>\n<p>40. pushkarAksha: (\u092a\u0941\u0937\u094d\u0915\u0930\u093e\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0903)<\/p>\n<p>The confluence of the extraordinary characteristics of mastership of all entities as well as the nature of being lotus eyed is indicated with this name \u2018pushkarAksha:\u2019\u00a0 \u2013 the lotus eyed one. No one else possesses lotus eyes like him.
