Isn\u2019t this the way that we should be?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>emakkiyAm viNNAttukku uchchamadhAm vIttai<\/em><br \/><em>amaiththirundhOm ahthanrE yAmARu amaippolindha<br \/>menthOLi kAraNamA vengOttu EREzhudanE<br \/>konRAnaiyE manaththuk koNdu<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>amai polindha \u2013 being like a bamboo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>menthOLi kAraNamA \u2013 nappinnai pirAtti (SrI\nneeLA dhEvi) who has soft shoulders<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>vem kOdu \u2013 sharp horns<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ezhu ERu \u2013 seven bulls<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>udanE \u2013 simultaneously<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>konRAnaiyE \u2013 krishNa, who killed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>manaththuk koNdu \u2013 keeping in the mind<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>nAm \u2013 we <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>viNNAttukku uchchamadhAm vIttai&nbsp; \u2013 paramapadham which is above svarga (heaven)\netc<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>emakku amaiththirundhOm \u2013 we were desirous<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ahdhanRE AmARu \u2013 isn\u2019t that, the correct\nway?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>emakkuyAm viNNAttukku uchchamadhAm vIttai amaiththirundhOm<\/strong> \u2013 We had desired for us, paramapadham (SrIvaikuNtam) which is above the worlds occupied by brahmA, rudhra, indhra et al.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ahdhanRE\nAmARu<\/strong> \u2013 Isn\u2019t that the way that we should be? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked \u201cThere are many hurdles to attain paramapadham. How will you overcome these?\u201d <br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says further \u201cHe, who removed the hurdles which prevented him from attaining nappinnaip pirAtti, will remove those hurdles\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>amaippolindha menthOLi kAraNamA vengOttu EREzhudanE konRAnaiyE manaththukkoNdu<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that since he has kept in his mind kaNNan (krishNa) who killed seven bulls which had sharp horns, simultaneously, for the sake of nappinnaip pirAtti, who has soft shoulders resembling bamboo, his hurdles would suffer the same fate which those bulls suffered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, the word <em>amaivu<\/em> [as in the first verse <em>amaiththirundhOm<\/em>] comes in the meaning of \u2018desire\u2019 with the variant <em>samaivu<\/em>. Since the word <em>amaiyum<\/em> would mean \u201cnot required\u201d, the word <em>amaiththirundhOm\u00a0<\/em>would mean \u2018we did not need it\u2019. This would convey the meaning that we did not require <em>kaivailya mOksham<\/em> (a variant of liberation in which the AthmA (soul), instead of enjoying <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, enjoys itself) which is located in the outskirts of paramapadham and which is above the worlds of brahmA, rudhra, indhra et al. The implied meaning is that for us, who have thought of the consort of nappinnai, kaivalya mOksham, which excludes experience of emperumAn, is not required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of this, we could also interpret the meaning in another way \u2013 we can consider <em>viNNAttukku uchchamadhAm vIttai<\/em> to refer to paramapadham itself. However, just as hanuman had said \u201cOther than this physical form of a monkey which was embraced by SrI rAma, in whose auspicious qualities I had got engaged, with his divine form, I do not require the <em>aprAkrutha<\/em> (not related to primordial matter) form with which I have to enter paramapadham as there is nothing in paramapadham for me to enjoy\u201d, we can consider that <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says \u201cFor me who has kept firmly in the mind nappinnaip pirAtti\u2019s consort kaNNa, the experience of paramapadham is not required \u201d.
