When the question arose as to what he did, AzhwAr says \u201cthinking of the sorrow which entails separation from <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, I praised his divine feet\u201d. Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>vinaiyAr thara muyalum vemmaiyai(yE) anjith<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thinaiyAm siRidhaLavum sella ninaiyAdhu<\/em><br \/>\n<em>vAsagaththAl EththinEn vAnOr thozhudhiRainjum<\/em><br \/>\n<em>nAyagaththAn ponnadikkaL nAn<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>vinaiyAr \u2013 separation (from <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>)<br \/>\nthara muyalum \u2013 attempting to give<br \/>\nvemmaiyai anji \u2013 fearing, thinking of the sorrows<br \/>\nthinaiyAm siRidhu aLavum \u2013 even the shortest of moments<br \/>\nsella ninaiyAdhu \u2013 not thinking of spending time without him<br \/>\nnAn \u2013 I<br \/>\nvAnOr \u2013 nithyasUris<br \/>\nthozhudhu iRainjum \u2013 worshipping through the faculties of mind and speech<br \/>\nnAyagaththAn \u2013 swAmy\u2019s (lord\u2019s)<br \/>\npon adigaL \u2013 beautiful divine feet<br \/>\nvAsagaththAL EththinEn \u2013 worshipped through mouth<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>vinaiyAr thara muyalum vemmayai anji thinaiyAm siRidhaLavum sella ninaiyAdhu vAsagaththAl EththinEn<\/strong> \u2013 separation from <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> results from sins committed earlier. Fearing such separation, thinking of not separating from him even for the shortest of moments and spending that time [purposelessly], I worshipped him with the sensory perception of speech. Since <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> has already said \u201c<em>ingillai<\/em>\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/11\/periya-thiruvandhadhi-30\/\">pAsuram 30<\/a>) and since he is going to say further (in pAsuram 54) \u201c<em>vAnO maRi kadalO<\/em>\u201d wherein he says that sins have already left him, the term <em>vinayAr <\/em>here will not refer to sins. It will only refer to separation (from emperumAn) resulting from previous deeds. The term <em>sella ninaiyAdhu<\/em> will refer to not thinking of spending time after separating from him. The term <em>vAsagam <\/em>would refer to the sense of speech.<\/p>\n<p>What did he worship? <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> responds saying . . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAnOr thozhudhu iRainjum nAyagaththAn ponnadikkaL nAn<\/strong> \u2013 I worshipped the great, divine feet of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> which are served constantly by nithyasUris (permanent dwellers of SrIvaikuNtam) through their faculties of mind, speech and body, with the thought that I should never let go of them ever. The term <em>thozhudhu<\/em> refers to worshipping with the faculties of mind and body while the term <em>iRainji<\/em> refers to worshipping through the faculty of speech.
