In this pAsuram he proves through both <em>anvayam<\/em> and <em>vyathirEkam<\/em> (connection and difference or affirmative and negative aspects) that emperumAn is the protector and he says that there is no question of emperumAn not protecting us.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>thAnE thaniththOnRal thannaLapponRillAdhAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thAnE piRargatkum thaRROnRal thAnE<\/em><br \/>\n<em>iLaikkiRpAr kIzhmElAm mINdamaippAnAnAl<\/em><br \/>\n<em>aLakkiRpAr pArin mEl Ar<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>thanith thOnRal thAnE \u2013 he is the only one who has incomparable incarnations<br \/>\nthan aLappukku \u2013 to compare with him<br \/>\nonRum illAdhAn thAnE \u2013 he is the only one who does not have any entity<br \/>\npiRargatkum thaRRONRal thAnE \u2013 he is the most famous antharyAmi (indwelling soul) for all the others<br \/>\nthAnE iLaikkil \u2013 if such an <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> drops down (from protecting)<br \/>\npAr kIzh mElAm \u2013 the earth will become topsy turvy and lose its balance<br \/>\nmINdu amaippAnAnAl \u2013 if he starts protecting once again<br \/>\naLakkiRpAr \u2013 one who can estimate (the extensiveness that he has in protecting)<br \/>\npAril mEl Ar \u2013 who is there, on the earth?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>thAnE thaniththOnRal<\/strong> \u2013 he is the only one who incarnates, without any comparison. Unlike jIvAthmAs who are born out of their karma (past deeds), <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> takes incarnations on his own volition, in order to uplift the jIvAthmAs. Hence <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> refers to him as <em>thaniththOnRal<\/em>. The implied meaning is that this term, on its own, establishes the fact that he is the protector.<\/p>\n<p>To a question whether there is anyone else who does like this, AzhwAr responds\u00a0 . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>thannaLapponRillAdhAn<\/strong> \u2013 he is one who does not have any other entity (who or) which can be considered as comparison.\u00a0 Hence the opinion is that there is no one else who can protect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAnE piRargatkum thaRROnRal<\/strong> \u2013 Just as it is mentioned in bruhadhAraNyaka upanishath 5-7 \u201c<em>Esha tha AthmA antharyAmyamrutha:<\/em>\u201d (only this <em>paramapurusha<\/em> (supreme entity) who is the <em>sarvAntharyAmi<\/em> (indwelling soul of all) has <em>amruthathvam<\/em> (does not have death) and remains as your indwelling soul), he remains as the indwelling soul for all, other than himself, and is the reason for their existence, behaviour and activities. It is implied through this that when all the others are under his control, there can be no place for doubting whether he is the protector for all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAnE iLaikkil pAr kIzh mElAm<\/strong> \u2013 If he momentarily steps back from protecting others, the earth will turn turtle. Since earth has not become topsy turvy, the implied meaning is that he protects at all times.
