In this pAsuram he requests emperumAn \u201cIf you do not wish to allow me to leave, you must allow me to get near you, see you with my eyes and experience you\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>vazhakkodu mARukolanRu adiyAr vENda<\/em><br \/>\n<em>izhakkavum kANdum iRaiva izhappuNdE<\/em><br \/>\n<em>emmAtkoNdAgilum yAn vENda en kaNgaL<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thammARkAttu un mEnichchAy<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>iRaiva \u2013 Oh the supreme being!<br \/>\nodu \u2013 clinging (to samsAris)<br \/>\nvazhakku anRu \u2013 is not appropriate (for you)<br \/>\nmARu koL vazhakku anRu \u2013 expecting something in return (from them) is also not appropriate<br \/>\nadiyAr vENda \u2013 when followers beseeched<br \/>\nizhakkavum kANdum \u2013 we have seen (masters) losing (themselves and their possessions) while carrying out tasks (for their followers)<br \/>\nizhappu uNdE \u2013 could your followers lose?<br \/>\nAgilum \u2013 even if you have to obtain something from us<br \/>\nyAn vENda \u2013 as I pray<br \/>\nem AL koNdu \u2013 making me as a servitor<br \/>\nen kaNgaL thammAl \u2013 for these biological eyes of mine<br \/>\nun mEni chAy \u2013 the beauty of your divine form<br \/>\nkAttu \u2013 please manifest<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>vazhakkodu mARukoLanRu<\/strong> \u2013 this should be split as <em>odu vazhakkanRu<\/em> and <em>mARukoL vazhakkanRu<\/em> to get the correct meanings. <em>odu<\/em> refers to connection with samsAris (dwellers of materialistic realm). o<em>du <\/em>vazhakkanRu &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> tells <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> that it is not appropriate for emperumAn to approach a samsAri and stand in front of him. <em>mARukoL vazhakkanRu<\/em> \u2013 unlike people (samsAris) who expect a return of compliment when one helps another, it is not appropriate for emperumAn to expect any return of favour when he gives a benefit to a samsAri. <em>mARu<\/em> \u2013 return of help (as an exchange).<\/p>\n<p>emperumAn asks AzhwAr to explain what he intends saying . . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>adiyAr vENda izhakkavum kANdum<\/strong> \u2013 in the world we see a leader with noble qualities losing himself and his possessions in order to fulfil the wishes of his followers when they approach him.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> counters saying that he will have such a compulsion only if <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> is his (emperumAn\u2019s) follower.<\/p>\n<p><strong>iRaiva<\/strong> \u2013 it does not matter whether I am a follower or not. The fact that you are the lord cannot be obliterated. When you are the lord, will it not follow as a natural corollary that I am the follower?<\/p>\n<p><strong>izhappuNdE<\/strong> \u2013 While it may happen in the world that followers (of others) may not have their wishes fulfilled, is there any such loss for your followers?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> asks <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> \u201cIf you have to obtain whatever you desire without any loss, should you not have some connection with servitorship?\u201d AzhwAr responds\u00a0 . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>emmAtkoNdAgilum yAn vEnda<\/strong> \u2013 this could be rearranged to get <em>Agilum yAm vENda em AtkoNdu<\/em> \u2013 If I say \u201cI too want such and such\u201d you should consider my request [my prayer to you] itself as a <em>kainkaryam<\/em> (service) and fulfil my desire.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> further asks <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> \u201cWhat is the desire that you wish to have fulfilled \u201d, AzhwAr says &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>en kaNgaL thammAr kAttu un mEnichchAy<\/strong> \u2013 you must manifest the beauty of your divine form such that I could see that with these eyes of mine. It is not enough if you say \u201cI will show you in <em>paramapadham<\/em>\u201d. What is the purpose in showing it in some other place with some other form of mine when I want to see you here, with these eyes? Will a person\u2019s hunger be sated if another person eats food? Did not sIthAppirAtti too desire to attain <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> with the same physical form and in the same place, as mentioned in SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 40-3 \u201c<em>yathA tham purushavyAgram gAthrai: SOkAbhikarSithai: <\/em>I <em>samspruSEyamsakAmAham thathA kuru dhayAm mayi <\/em>II \u201d (you should shower your mercy on me such that I, having lot of affection, would be able to touch the greatest man [SrI rAma] with these limbs which have become wizened due to grief)?
