The first <em>avathArikai<\/em> is that <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> is moving away from <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> citing his unsuitability since he is trying to attain a means [emperumAn] who is attainable only by the thirty three dhEvas who are great in terms of knowledge, power etc. The second <em>avathArikai<\/em> relates to AzhwAr saying disgustedly to his heart \u201cemperumAn will be attained only by dhEvas who are interested in other benefits and not by us who are totally desirous of only him\u201d. The third <em>avathArikai<\/em> is about AzhwAr telling his heart in a dejected manner \u201cemperumAn will be attained only by dhEvas who hold on to other means but not by us who hold on to only him as the means\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>iru nAlvar Iraindhin mEl oruvar ettOdu<\/em><br \/>\n<em>oru nAlvar Oriruvar allAl thirumARku<\/em><br \/>\n<em>yAmAr vaNakkamAr EpAvam nannenjE<\/em><br \/>\n<em>nAmA miga udaiyOm nAzh<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>nal nenjE \u2013 Oh mind which has goodness<br \/>\niru nAlvar \u2013 the eight vasus<br \/>\nIraindhin mEl oruvar \u2013 the eleven rudhras<br \/>\nettOdu oru nAlvar \u2013 the twelve Adhithyas<br \/>\nOriruvar \u2013 the two distinguished aSvinI dhEvathAs<br \/>\nallAl \u2013 apart from these entities<br \/>\nthirumARku \u2013 to attain the consort of mahAlakshmi<br \/>\nnAm Ar \u2013 in what classification do we belong?<br \/>\nvaNakkam Ar \u2013 to which type will the attainment that we [people with lowly power] make, belong?<br \/>\nE pAvam \u2013 how are (our) sins?<br \/>\nnAm \u2013 we<br \/>\nmiga nAzh udaiyOm \u2013 have lot of unnecessary desires<br \/>\nA \u2013 a sound made in wonder [as in nAmA]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>iru nAlvar Iraindhin mEl oruvar ettOdu oru nAlvar Oriruvar<\/strong> \u2013 the thirty three dhEvas comprising 8 vasus, 11 rudhras, 12 Adhithyas and 2 aSvinI dhEvas. It is pertinent to recall here <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">poygai AzhwAr<\/a> who says in his <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/08\/mudhal-thiruvandhadhi-52\/\">mudhal thiruvandhAdhi 52<\/a> \u201c<em>eNmar padhinoruvar IraRuvar Oriruvar<\/em>\u201d and <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/andal\/\">ANdAL<\/a> who says in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/01\/thiruppavai-20-muppaththu-muvar\/\">thiruppAvai 20<\/a> \u201c<em>muppaththu mUvar<\/em>\u201d. vEdha also says \u201cthrayas thrimSadhvai dhEvA: \u201d (33 dhEvas)<\/p>\n<p><strong>allAl<\/strong> \u2013 apart from these [33 entities] who are full of knowledge and power.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thirumARku nAm Ar vaNakkam Ar<\/strong> \u2013 do we have the qualification to attain the consort of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">SrI mahAlakshmi<\/a>? Couldn\u2019t only great people attain him? Is our salutation etc, of any significance for him?<\/p>\n<p><strong>E pAvam<\/strong> \u2013 The reason for our losing him when he is at such close proximity is our sin only. One interpretation here is that we had to lose out on <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> since we went away from emperumAn considering our unsuitability. The second interpretation is that the reason for losing emperumAn and not enjoying him despite our heart seeing him is due to our sin [here, the term \u2018our\u2019 refers to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p><strong>nannenjE<\/strong> \u2013 On my good heart who remains with me irrespective of whether I attain <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> or lose out on him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAm miga nAzh udaiyOm<\/strong> \u2013 As mentioned in the decad \u201c<em>vaLavEzh ulagum<\/em>\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/08\/thiruvaimozhi-1-5-valavezh\/\">thiruvAimozhi 1-5<\/a>) , if we consider the unsuitability interpretation, it would mean \u201cdo we, the epitome of faults, have the qualification to approach the consort of SrI mahAlakshmi? Isn\u2019t moving away from him the proper course of action? Isn\u2019t it due to our ignorance that we approached him despite our lowliness?\u201d If we consider the second interpretation (losing him out due to our sin), it would mean \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who carries out activities for those who have other means [to attain him] and who seek other benefits, would consider us, who have no other means and who seek no other benefit, as having sins\u201d.
