Certain words, found in the first pAsuram of periya thiruvandhAdhi have been used in the thaniyan. <em>muyaRRi sumandhu ezhundhu mundhuRRa nenjE<\/em> [which are present in the first pAsuram of the prabandham] have been slightly rearranged \u00a0for the first line of the thaniyan to read <em>mundhuRRa nenjE muyaRRi dhariththu uraiththu<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the thaniyan and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p>mundhuRRa nenjE muyaRRi dhariththuraiththu<br \/>\nvandhiththu vAyAra vAzhththi sandham<br \/>\nmurugUrum sOlai sUzh moymbUm porunal<br \/>\nkurugUr mARan pEr kURu<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word meaning:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>mundhuRRa nenjE \u2013 Oh mind which is going ahead of me, (to attain <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>)<br \/>\nmuyaRRi \u2013 the dhivya prabandham (divine composition) which starts with the word <em>muyaRRi<br \/>\n<\/em>dhariththu \u2013 sustaining (in the mind)<br \/>\nuraiththu \u2013 reciting (through the mouth)<br \/>\nvandhiththu \u2013 worshipping (AzhwAr)<br \/>\nvAyAra vAzhththi \u2013 praising (AzhwAr) until the mouth hurts<br \/>\nmurugu Urum \u2013 overflowing with honey<br \/>\nsandham sOlai \u2013 in the grove with sandalwood trees<br \/>\nsUzh \u2013 being surrounded by<br \/>\nmoy \u2013 with water bodies<br \/>\npU \u2013 being beautiful<br \/>\nporunal \u2013 having the river thAmirabaraNi<br \/>\nkurugUran \u2013 the lord of <a href=\"http:\/\/azhwarthirunagari.koyil.org\">(AzhwAr) thirunagari<\/a><br \/>\nmARan pEr kURu \u2013 keep reciting the divine name of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>mundhuRRa nenjE<\/strong> \u2013 Oh mind, which is ahead of me in the matters related to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>! swAmy rAmAnujar has mercifully spoken about AzhwAr in the same way by which AzhwAr has mercifully spoken about <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>. Isn\u2019t the divine mind of AzhwAr involved with the divine feet of emperumAn, more than AzhwAr himself! At several places, AzhwAr has mentioned about his mind\/heart having gone ahead of him in matters relating to emperumAn. A few examples have been cited:<\/p>\n<p>thiruvAimozhi 8-2-10 \u201c<em>ennenjennai ninnidaiyEnallEnenRu nIngi nANmalarp pAdham adaindhadhu<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/08\/thiruvaimozhi-7-3-4-izhandha-em-mamai\/\">thiruvAimozhi 7-3-4<\/a> \u201c<em>ennenjinArum angE ozhindhAr<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>thiruviruththam 30 \u201c<em>ennenjinAraik kaNdAl ennaichcholli<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>periya thiruvandhAdhi 49 \u201c<em>kAruruvam kANdORum nenjOdum kaNNanAr pEruruvam enRemmaip pirindhu<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>periya thiruvandhAdhi 50 \u201c<em>thammudaiya pinnE thirundhuzhalum sindhanaiyAr <\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>periya thiruvandhAdhi 7 \u201c<em>ennenjinAr thAme aNukkarAich chArndhozhindhAr<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the same way, the minds of mahAthmAs (distinguished souls) such as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/madhurakavi-azhwar\/\">madhurakavi AzhwAr<\/a> would have tried to go ahead of the mahAthmAs themselves in matters relating to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>muyaRRi dhariththu<\/strong> \u2013 having great enthusiasm as mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/02\/kanninun-chiruth-thambu-10-payan-anragilum\/\">kaNNinuN siRuththAmbu 10<\/a> \u201c<em>muyalginREn undhan moy kazhaRku anbaiyE<\/em>\u201d (I am making effort to have affection towards your great, divine feet). While <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> has mercifully mentioned <em>muyaRRi sumandhu<\/em>, swAmy rAmAnuja has mercifully mentioned <em>muyaRRi dhariththu<\/em>. <em>muyaRRi<strong> \u2013 <\/strong><\/em>enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>muyaRRi dhariththu uraiththu<\/strong> \u2013 Alternatively, <em>muyaRRI <\/em>\u00a0could be taken to mean periya thiruvandhAdhi itself, which starts with the word <em>muyaRRi<\/em>. In this case, the meaning would change to \u2013 keeping the prabandham periya thiruvandhAdhi which starts with the word <em>muyarri<\/em> in the mind and then reciting it through the mouth. u<em>raiththu <\/em>\u2013 just as it is mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/04\/thiruvaimozhi-6-8-1-ponnulagaliro\/\">thiruvAimozhi 6-8-1<\/a> \u201c<em>en nilaimai uraiththu<\/em>\u201d (revealing my state) and as mentioned by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> himself about his forlorn state in separation, this could be construed as speaking about his [reference here is to swAmy rAmAnujar\u2019s] sorrow in separation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vandhiththu<\/strong> \u2013 worshipping at the divine feet of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>muyaRRI dhariththu uraiththu vandhiththu<\/strong> \u2013 meditating upon the relationship of Lord and servitor which exists between AzhwAr and us and worshipping him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vandhiththu<\/strong> \u2013 worshipping one who mercifully composed the divine prabandham periya thiruvandhAdhi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>muyaRRi . . . vandhiththu<\/strong> \u2013 initially worshipping the divine chest, the lotus like hands with the <em>gyAna mudhrA<\/em> (impression (sign) of knowledge), the divine feet of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> which are in <em>padhmAsana<\/em> (posture of lotus) just as AzhwAr himself had spoken of the divine limbs of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> through various pAsurams such as <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/10\/thiruvaimozhi-6-1-7-oru-vannam\/\">thiruvAimozhi 6-1-7<\/a> \u201c<em>karuvaNNam seyya vAy, seyya kaN, seyya kai, seyya kAl seruvoN chakkaram sangu adaiyALam thirundhakkaNdE<\/em>\u201d, <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/10\/thiruvaimozhi-6-1-3-thirangalagi\/\">thiruvAimozhi 6-1-3<\/a> \u201c<em>iRangi nIr thozhudhu paNiyIr<\/em>\u201d and as he said of himself in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/05\/thiruvaimozhi-4-10-11-atcheydhu\/\">thiruvAimozhi 4-10-11<\/a> \u201c<em>nAtkamazh magizh mAlai mArbinan<\/em>\u201d; then praising him [AzhwAr] handsomely, just as AzhwAr praised emperumAn in pAsurams such as periya thiruvandhAdhi 39 \u201c<em>avan pugazhE vAyupakAram koNda vAyppu<\/em>\u201d, periya thiruvandhAdhi 12 \u201c<em>kaNNan thAL vAzhththuvadhE kaNdAy vazhakku<\/em>\u201d, periya thiruvandhAdhi 84 \u201c<em>vAzhththi avan adiyai<\/em>\u201d, <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/10\/thiruvaimozhi-6-1-5-unarththal-udal\/\">thiruvAimozhi 6-1-5<\/a> \u201c<em>adiyEnukkum pORRuminE<\/em>\u201d. Praising AzhwAr just as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/madhurakavi-azhwar\/\">madhurakavi AzhwAr<\/a> praised him in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/01\/kanninun-chiru-thambu-2-navinal\/\">kaNNinuN siRuth thAmbu 2<\/a> \u201d<em>nAvinAl naviRRu inbam eydhinEn<\/em>\u201c\u00a0 and in the pramANam \u201c<em>prathyakshE gurava: sthuthyA:<\/em>\u201d, justifying the benefit obtained by having mouth.<\/p>\n<p>With the rest of the pAsuram, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/emperumanar\/\">SrI rAmAnujar<\/a> tells his heart to recite the divine name of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>, apart from praising him as mentioned above, either staying in the same place where he [SrI rAmAnuja] is presently staying or by going to AzhwAr thirunagari.<\/p>\n<p><strong>sandham murugUrum sOlai sUzh<\/strong> \u2013 the words could be rearranged to read as <em>murugUrum sandham sOlai sUzh<\/em>. <em>murugu<\/em> refers to honey and <em>sandham<\/em> to sandalwood. Thus, the meaning for this will be \u2013 surrounded by grove of sandalwood trees flooded by honey, just as it is mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/02\/ramanusa-nurranthadhi-20\/\">rAmAnusa nURRandhAdhi 20<\/a> \u201c<em>Arappozhil then kurugai<\/em>\u201d (AzhwAr thirunagari with sandalwood groves).<\/p>\n<p><strong>moypUm porunal<\/strong> \u2013 having the river thAmirabaraNi with copious amount of water and being beautiful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>moypUm porunal kurugUran mARan pEr kURu<\/strong> \u2013 recite the divine name of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> so that you can exist. How is kurugUr? It is on the banks of river thAmirabaraNi, which has copious amount of water which is clear and sweet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kurugUr mARan pEr kURu<\/strong> \u2013 recite the name \u2018kurugUr sadagOpan\u2019 just as nammAzhwAr himself had mercifully mentioned in thiruviruththam 100 \u201c<em>nallAr navil kurugUr nagarAn thirumAL thiruppEr vallAr adikkaNNi sUdiya mARan<\/em>\u201d and in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/02\/thiruvaimozhi-4-5-11-mari-maradha\/\">thiruvAimozhi 4-5-11<\/a> \u201c<em>paimpozhil sUzh kurugUr nagar kArimARan sadagOpan<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kurugUran mARan pEr <\/strong>kURu \u2013 recite the names of nammAzhwAr just as he had referred to himself as \u201c<em>kurugUrch <\/em>chadagOpan\u201d \u00a0in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/03\/thiruvaimozhi-2-5-11-kurudhal-onru\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2-5-11<\/a> and just as he recited the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> in various pAsurams such as in periya thiruvandhAdhi 46 \u201c<em>nAn kURum kURRAvadhu iththanaiyE<\/em>\u201d, <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/03\/thiruvaimozhi-2-5-11-kurudhal-onru\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2-5-11<\/a> \u201c<em>kudakkUththa ammAnaik kURudhalE mEvi<\/em>\u201d, ending with <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/09\/thiruvaimozhi-5-9-11-namangal-ayiram\/\">thiruvAimozhi 5-9-11<\/a> \u201c<em>sadagOpan therindhuraiththa nAmangaL Ayiram <\/em>\u201d and <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/09\/thiruvaimozhi-5-9-10-thol-arul\/\">thiruvAimozhi 5-9-10<\/a> \u201c<em>nArAyaNan nAmangaLE<\/em>\u201d. Recite the names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> just as the (thamizh sanga) poets had sung about him as \u201c<em>nAmam parAngusanO<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the text is <em>kurugUr nam mARan<\/em> the meaning will change as \u2018our nammAzhwAr who is in thirukkurugUr\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pEr kURu<\/strong> \u2013 recite the name of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> which he himself mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/06\/thiruvaimozhi-5-4-5-ar-ennai\/\">thiruvAimozhi 5-4-5<\/a> \u201cpEr ennai\u201d. Recite the name \u201ckurugUr sadagOpan\u201d such that the entire place, on hearing this, will raise its hands (in other words, all the people living in the place will raise their hands) and salute nammAzhwAr.
