In this pAsuram he tells his divine mind \u201cI had explained the presence of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> even to those who denied his existence. You also meditate on this meaning\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meaning:<\/p>\n<p><em>uLan kaNdAy nannenjE uththaman enRum<\/em><br \/>\n<em>uLan kaNdAy uLLuvAr uLLaththu uLan kaNdAy<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thannoppAn thAnAy uLan kAn thamiyERku<\/em><br \/>\n<em>ennoppArkku Isan imai<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>nal nenjE &#8211; Oh heart who is apt for me!<br \/>\nuththaman \u2013 (one who protects without expecting anything in return) <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who is the best among all purushas (souls)<br \/>\nuLan kaNdAy \u2013 see that he exists (to protect us)<br \/>\nenRum uLan kaNdAy \u2013 see that (at all places) at all times (in protecting us) he exists<br \/>\nuLLuvAr uLLaththu \u2013 in the minds of those who accept to think of him<br \/>\nuLan kaNdAy \u2013 see that he exists permanently<br \/>\nthan oppAn Isan \u2013 (since there is none who equals him) that emperumAn who is his own equal<br \/>\nthamiyERku \u2013 for me, who is without any means<br \/>\nen oppARku \u2013 and for those who, like me, are without any means<br \/>\nthAn Ay uLan kAN \u2013 see that he himself exists as the protector<br \/>\nimai \u2013 know this<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>uLan kaNdAy<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> is not instructing us regarding the existence of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>. Then, what is he implying? He tells his heart to see emperumAn, who is there as the protector. He tells his heart to see that even if unavoidable problems crop up due to the heart or due to anyone else, he is there, capable of avoiding those problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nannenjE<\/strong> \u2013 Oh heart which has the capability to instruct others regarding this! Since it has the capability to instruct others, is it required to say that is has the capability to listen about this?<\/p>\n<p><strong>nannenjE<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> celebrates his heart just as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> did in his <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/10\/thiruvaimozhi-1-10-4-nenjame-nallai\/\">thiruvAimozhi 1-10-4<\/a> \u201d<em>nenjamE! nallai nallai unnaip peRRAl en seyyOm ini enna kuRaivinam <\/em>\u201d (Oh heart! What can I not do if I get such a good entity like you! What shortcoming will I have!)<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> becomes a protector, will he expect anything?<\/p>\n<p><strong>uLan kaNdAy nannenjE uththaman<\/strong> \u2013 AzhwAr says that emperumAn is the best among all, who does not expect anything when he protects. One who carries out a deed for his own benefit is called as <em>adhaman<\/em> (lowliest among all); one who carries out a deed for his as well as others\u2019 benefit is called as <em>madhyaman<\/em> (in-between); one who carries out a deed for the benefit of only others is called as <em>uththaman<\/em> (best among all). Isn\u2019t emperumAn <em>Ongi ulagaLandha uththaman<\/em> (the best entity who grew up and measured all the worlds, for the benefit of his followers)!<\/p>\n<p>Being a totally independent entity, though he has been protecting so far without expecting anything, what will he do now?<\/p>\n<p><strong>uththaman enRum uLan kaNdAy<\/strong> \u2013 just as he had been protecting in samsAram all along without any reason, hereafter he will give himself to be enjoy in SrIvaikuNtam and protect.<\/p>\n<p>For getting this, should the jIvAthmA have any qualification?<\/p>\n<p><strong>uLLuvAr uLLaththu uLan kaNdAy<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> will reside in the heart of one who agrees to think of him instead of vowing \u2018I will not think about you\u2019. It is implied that the only quality required for the chEthana (sentient entity) to make emperumAn as a protector is to agree to think about emperumAn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>uLLuvAr uLLaththu uLan<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhwAr<\/a> and his divine daughter, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/andal\/\">ANdAL<\/a>, mercifully mentioned respectively, in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/06\/thiruppallandu-4-edunilam\/\">thiruppallANdu 4<\/a> \u201c<em>kUdumanam udaiyIrgaL varampozhi vandhollaik kUduminO<\/em>\u201d (if you have the desire to be with us, break out of the boundary of one enjoying himself\/herself and join with us immediately) and in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2014\/12\/thiruppavai-01-margazhi-thingal\/\">thiruppAvai 1<\/a> \u201c<em>pOdhuvIr pOdhuminO<\/em>\u201d (those who are desirous (of being together with us while taking bath), join us).<\/p>\n<p><strong>thannoppAn Isan<\/strong> \u2013 Just as SvethASvathara upanishath said \u201c <em>na thathsamaSchAbhyadhigaScha dhruSyathE <\/em>\u201d (there is none equalling you; we cannot see anyone superior to you) and <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/02\/thiruvaimozhi-2-3-2-oththar-mikkarai\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2-3-2<\/a> \u201c<em>oththAr mikkAraiyilaiyAya mAmAyA<\/em>\u201d (Oh amazing entitiy who does not have anyone equal or superior!), sarvESvara is one who is his own equal. The opinion is that there is none to equal him in protecting others causelessly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isan<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> hints here that since emperumAn is the owner, he is bound to protect his possession.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thamiyERku ennoppArkkuth thAnAy uLan kAN<\/strong> \u2013 (AzhwAr tells his heart to see that) the supreme being is the protector for him as well as for those like him who are without any means.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thamiyERku<\/strong> \u2013 one who is secluded. Seclusion here refers to the quality of being without any means in protecting oneself just as it is mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/08\/thiruvaimozhi-5-7-1-norra-nonbilen\/\">thiruvAimozhi 5-7-1<\/a> \u201c<em>nORRa nOnbilEn nuNNaRivilEn<\/em>\u201d (I am without karmayOga (path of attaining emperumAn through carrying out ordained deeds) or gyAna yOga (path of knowledge for attaining emperumAn))<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAnAyuLan<\/strong> \u2013 emperumAn is there as the protector.
