Is it not enough if you are involved with emperumAn for sometime and be involved with other activities at other times?\u201d AzhwAr tells them \u201cI have just enough time for meditating on the victorious deeds of chakravarthy thirumagan (SrI rAma, son of emperor dhaSaratha). Where is the time for engaging with other activities?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>thozhil enakkuth thollaimAl than nAmam Eththa<\/em><br \/>\n<em>pozhudhu enakku maRRadhuvE pOdhum kazhi sinaththa<\/em><br \/>\n<em>vallALan vAnararkOn vAli madhanazhiththa<\/em><br \/>\n<em>villALan nenjaththuLan<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>kazhi sinaththa \u2013 one who has lot of anger<br \/>\nvallALan \u2013 and who has lot of strength<br \/>\nvAnarar kOn \u2013 being the king of monkeys<br \/>\nvAli \u2013 vAli\u2019s<br \/>\nmadhan \u2013 arrogance<br \/>\nazhiththa \u2013 one who destroyed<br \/>\nvil ALan \u2013 SrI rAma, who was controlling kOdhaNdam, his bow<br \/>\nnenjaththu \u2013 in my heart<br \/>\nuLan \u2013 has taken residence<\/p>\n<p>Hence<br \/>\nenakku \u2013 for me<br \/>\nthozhil \u2013 profession<br \/>\nthollai mAl than nAmam Eththa \u2013 is only to praise the divine names of that long-standing sarvESvara (supreme being)<br \/>\nenakku \u2013 for me<br \/>\nmaRRadhuvE \u2013 only with recitation of SrI rAma\u2019s divine names, as mentioned earlier<br \/>\npozhudhu pOdhum \u2013 time will pass on<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>thozhil enakkuth thollai mAl than nAmam Eththa<\/strong> \u2013 the profession for me is to praise the sarvESvara (supreme being) who is there for a very long time.<\/p>\n<p>Aren\u2019t we [samsAris] carrying out a lot of other work and in between, reciting <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s divine names? Why cannot you too [<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>] do like that?<\/p>\n<p><strong>pozhudhu enakku maRRadhuvE pOdhum<\/strong> \u2013 for me, time is spent in engaging with <em>bhagavath vishayam<\/em> (matters relating to emperumAn). He says next that even among the matters relating to emperumAn, there is time for engaging with only one of his incarnations, SrI rAma and there is no time for other matters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kazhi sinaththa vallALan<\/strong> \u2013 one can see vAli\u2019s cruel anger in his act of rejecting his younger brother who fell at his feet and begged him [for forgivance].<\/p>\n<p><strong>vallALan<\/strong> \u2013 one could see his great strength in his act of tying rAvaNa as if he were an insect<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAnarar kOn<\/strong> \u2013 one who controlled and ruled over the monkeys through his anger and strength and was their king<\/p>\n<p><strong>kazhi sinaththa vallALan vAnarar kOn<\/strong> \u2013 It is clear that unlike SrI rAma who engaged his citizens through his divine form and qualities such as magnanimity etc to make them say \u201c<em>ichchAmOhi mahAbAhum<\/em>\u201d (we desire to see SrI rAma who has strong shoulders as the king), vAli had subjugated the monkeys through his anger and strength and ruled over them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAli madhanazhiththa<\/strong> \u2013 one who destroyed the arrogance of vAli<\/p>\n<p><strong>suzhi sinaththa vAli madhanazhiththa<\/strong> \u2013 the meaning implied here is that SrI rAma destroyed the vanity of vAli since vAli had condemned his younger brother [sugrIva] who had fallen at his feet seeking refuge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vallALan madhanazhiththa<\/strong> \u2013 the opinion here is that vAli, instead of utilising his strength for controlling people like rAvaNa, used it for befriending them and hence is apt to be controlled.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAnararkOn madhanazhiththa<\/strong> \u2013 the meaning here is that since vAli is a dangerous animal, it is fit to destroy his pride by hitting him by hiding, insead of fighting with him in direct combat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>madhanazhiththa villALan nenjaththuLan<\/strong> \u2013 the one who had destroyed the arrogance of vAli is constantly residing in my heart.
