Becoming very pleased after looking at this rare deed of AzhwAr, emperumAn asked him \u201cAzhwIr! Is there anything that I can do in return for what you have done?\u201d AzhwAr replies \u201cWhen you, who are the source for my doing such deeds, are there and had rectified my mind to enable it to reap rich harvest, what else is there to be done for me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>kadhavu manam enRum kANalAm enRum<\/em><br \/>\n<em>kudhaiyum vinaiyAvi thIrndhEn vidhaiyAga<\/em><br \/>\n<em>naRRamizhai viththi en uLLaththai nI viLaiththAy<\/em><br \/>\n<em>kaRRa mozhiyAgik kalandhu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>nI \u2013 you (who have no shortcoming in knowledge, power etc)<br \/>\nkaRRa mozhiyAgi \u2013 being the meaning for the thamizh words that I have learnt<br \/>\nkalandhu \u2013 mingling with me, like water mingling with water<br \/>\nnal thamizhai \u2013 the distinguished language of thamizh<br \/>\nvidhaiyAga viththi \u2013 sowing it as seed<br \/>\nen uLLaththai \u2013 my heart<br \/>\nviLaiththAy \u2013 you made (this prabandham [divine hymn]) to grow<\/p>\n<p>(due to that)<br \/>\nmanam \u2013 mind<br \/>\nkadhavu enRum \u2013 thinking ( on a few occasions) to be the hurdle for attaining emperumAn<br \/>\n(manam) kANalAm enRum \u2013 thinking (the mind) to be the aid in seeing emperumAn (on a few other occasions)<br \/>\nkudhaiyum vinai Avi thIrndhEn \u2013 I avoided the heart which had unsteadiness (in swinging between these two extremes) as its business<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>kadhavu manam enRum . . . . thIrndhEn<\/strong> \u2013 AzhwAr says that he avoided something which was a huge hurdle for others in attaining emperumAn.<\/p>\n<p>What is that hurdle?<\/p>\n<p><strong>kadhavu manam enRum kANalAm enrum kudhaiyum vinai Avi<\/strong> \u2013 Just as it is mentioned in SrI vishNu purANam 6-7-28 \u201c<em>mana Eva manushyANAm kAraNam bandha mOkshayO:<\/em> I <em>bandhAya vishayAsangi mukthyai nirvishayam mana:<\/em> II\u201d (it is the heart alone which is the reason for people getting chained to samsAram as well as getting liberated from it; if it is engaged with Sabdha (sensory objects such as sound) etc it is chained and if it is not engaged with Sabdha etc, it is liberated), it is heart alone which acts as a hurdle like a door in seeing the supreme being and it is heart alone which is the means for seeing him. AzhwAr says that he avoided getting an unsteady heart.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kadhavu manam enRum kANalAm enRum<\/strong> \u2013 did not kaNNan (krishNa) say in <a href=\"http:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-5\/\">SrI bhagavath gIthA 6-5<\/a> \u201c<em>Athmaiva hyAthmanO bandhurAthmaiva ripurAthmana:<\/em>\u201d (it is the heart alone which is friendly towards AthmA (soul) and it is the heart alone which is inimical towards the AthmA)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>kudhaiyum vinai Avi thIrndhEn<\/strong> \u2013 I avoided getting a heart which was unsteady. The meaning behind this is that AzhwAr obtained a heart which was fully focussed on matters relating to emperumAn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Avi<\/strong> \u2013 the word <em>Avi<\/em> which refers to <em>prANa<\/em> (breath) indicates heart which is the seat for breath. In the gIthA SlOkam shown above (6-5) the word AthmA, as well as the word <em>uyir<\/em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/02\/thiruvaimozhi-2-3-1-unil-vazh\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2-3-1<\/a> \u201c<em>Unil vAzhum uyirE<\/em>\u201d refer to heart.
