If we look at the transformation in rudhra, who is full of thamO guNam (ignorance, laziness etc) and who is always angry, on hearing the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> by\u00a0 chance, should we say anything about those who see him directly and worship him?<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>kaNdu vaNanginarkku ennAngol kAmanudal<\/em><br \/>\n<em>koNda thavaththARku umai uNarththa vaNdalambum<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thAralangal nINmudiyAn than peyarE kEttirundhu angu<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Aralangal AnamaiyAl Ayndhu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>kAman \u2013 manmadhan\u2019s<br \/>\nudal \u2013 body<br \/>\nkoNda \u2013 one who turned it into ashes<br \/>\nthavaththARku \u2013 Siva who carries out the penance<br \/>\numai \u2013 (his wife) pArvathi<br \/>\nuNarththa \u2013 as she indicated<br \/>\nvaNdu alambum thAr alangal nIN mudiyAn than peyarE kEttirundhu \u2013 on hearing the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who dons garland on his long crown, and on which beetles keep swarming<br \/>\nangu \u2013 at that moment itself<br \/>\nAr alangal Anamai \u2013 becoming transformed<br \/>\nAyndhAl \u2013 if one were to analyse<br \/>\nkaNdu vanaginArkku \u2013 those who see and worship<br \/>\nen Am kol \u2013 what sort of transformation will take place?\u00a0 (cannot be said easily)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>kAman udal koNda thavaththARku<\/strong> \u2013 to rudhra who carries out penance, and who burnt the body of kAma (manmadha) who created love (in him) towards his wife (pArvathi). To rudhra who has such a cruel nature that he would spend the strength of all his penance in destroying the person who created desire in him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>udal koNda thavaththARku<\/strong> \u2013 the benefit of carrying out penance is to destroy someone. One who is so hard hearted. The implied meaning is that such a hard hearted person melted on hearing the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>umai uNarththa<\/strong> \u2013 pArvathi says. This narrative is as follows: Once when rudhra was meditating, pArvathi asked him \u201c<em>kam thvamarchayasE dhEva!\u00a0 kim dhaivamadhikam thava<\/em> I <em>japahOma namaskArai: tham vadhasva mahESvara<\/em> II\u201d (Oh Lord! Who are you worshipping through <em>japa <\/em>(prayers), <em>hOma<\/em> (ritual by growing fire), <em>namaskAra<\/em> (salutation)? Who is the deity who is superior to you? mahESvara! Please tell me about him). She started singing the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> in a way which was sweet to the ears. rudhra asked her to sing the divine names more and more and became very emotionally weak.<\/p>\n<p><strong>umai uNarththa<\/strong> \u2013 hearing her recite the divine names of emperumAn as pArvathi was asking him doubts by chance, rudhra started hearing from her, matter relating to emperumAn, thus changing the order of teacher \u2013 student (the student became teacher and teacher became student).<\/p>\n<p><strong>vaNdalambum thAralangal nINmudiyAn than peyarE kEttirundhu<\/strong> \u2013 the moment he heard and meditated on the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, on whose long crown thuLasi garlands were decorated and on which beetles came to swim in the nectar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vaNdalambum thAralangal nINmudiyAn<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> mercifully said in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/10\/thiruvaimozhi-1-9-7-tholinai-melum\/\">thiruvAimozhi 1-9-7<\/a> \u201c<em>sudar mudi mElum punaindha thaNNandhuyAyudai ammAn<\/em>\u201d (my lord who has cool thuLasi on his resplendent crown); <em>vaNdalambu<\/em> \u2013 some interpret this as beetles humming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nIN mudiyAn<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> has a long crown which manifests his supremacy, as mercifully mentioned by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/kuraththazhwan\/\">kUraththAzhwAn<\/a> in SrI varadharAja sthavam \u201c<em>AdhirAjyamadhikam bhuvanAnAmISa thE piSunayan kila mouli:<\/em>\u201d (your crown bears the tale that you are the lord of all the worlds).<\/p>\n<p><strong>angu AralangalAnamai AyndhAl kaNdu vaNanginArkku ennAngol<\/strong> \u2013 as soon as one hears emperumAn\u2019s divine name, just as mercifully sung by various <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/azhwars\/\">AzhwArs<\/a> \u201c<em>kAlAzhum nenjazhiyum kaN suzhalum<\/em>\u201d (I will be unable to stand as legs will wobble, heart will sink, eyes will roll), \u201c<em>uLLelAmurugi kural thazhuththozhindhEn<\/em>\u201d (heart melted and voice stammered), \u201c<em>AhlAdhaSItha nEthrAmbU:\u00a0 pulakIkrutha gAthravAn sadhA paraguNAvishta:<\/em>\u201d (the devotee on hearing the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, will have tears of joy and goose pimples, being enslaved by the superior qualities of emperumAn).
