After seeing how he showered his distinguished grace on me, who is the epitome of all the faults, how can I praise the human beings with my tongue?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>thaRpennaith thAnaRIyAnElum thadangadalaik<\/em><br \/>\n<em>kaRkoNdu thUrththa kadal vaNNan eRkoNda<\/em><br \/>\n<em>vevvinaiyum nInga vilangA manam vaiththAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em>evvinaiyum mAyumAl kaNdu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>thadam kaladai \u2013 expansive ocean<br \/>\nkal koNdu \u2013 with mountains<br \/>\nthUrththa \u2013 one who built a dam and blocked it<br \/>\nkadal vaNNan thAn \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who has a dark complexion similar to the ocean<br \/>\nennai \u2013 me (who is the epitome of all faults)<br \/>\nthaRpu \u2013 real nature<br \/>\naRiyAnElum \u2013 even if (he is) not aware of<br \/>\nen koNda \u2013 having stolen me<br \/>\nvevvinaiyum \u2013 all the cruel sins<br \/>\nnInga \u2013 to leave<br \/>\nkaNdu \u2013 thinking with his heart<br \/>\nmanam \u2013 his divine mind<br \/>\nvilangA \u2013 not going elsewhere<br \/>\nvaiththAn \u2013 mercifully kept (in a focussed way)<\/p>\n<p>(Hence)<br \/>\nevvinaiyum \u2013 all those which are known as sins<br \/>\nmAyum \u2013 will be destroyed<br \/>\nAl \u2013 how wonderful<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>thaRpennaith thAnaRIyAnElum<\/strong> \u2013 even if he did not know me, as I am [ i.e. my true nature]. This <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> has said of himself in thiruchchandha viruththam 90 \u201c<em>kulangaLAya IriraNdil onRilum piRandhilEn, nalangalAya naRkalaigaL nAlilum navinRilEn pulangaLaindhum venRilEn poRiyilEn<\/em>\u201d (I am not born in any of the four <em>varNas<\/em> (classification of society based on qualities and activities), I have not learnt any of the four vEdhas which show correct path to all, I have not won over the five senses and I am trapped in worldly pursuits such as Sabdham (sound) etc ).\u00a0 Even if <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> does not know that I have such faults&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAnaRiyAnElum<\/strong> \u2013 Just as mentioned in \u201c<em>yassarvagya: sarvavith<\/em>\u201d even if he, who is the omniscient, does not know my faults. <em>ennaith thAnaRIyAnElum<\/em> \u2013 Instead of saying \u2018my faults\u2019 why is <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> saying \u2018me\u2019? Since <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> feels that he is the epitome of all faults, he says \u2018me\u2019 instead of \u2018my faults\u2019. <em>aRiyAnElum<\/em> \u2013 has it not been mentioned \u201c<em>avigyAtha hi bhakthAnAm Agassu kamalEkshaNa:<\/em>\u201d (when it comes to the faults of his devotees, the lotus-eyed (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>) remains ignorant)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>thadangadalaik kaRkoNdu thUrththa kadal vaNNan<\/strong> \u2013 he built a dam in the huge ocean with stones; he has dark and cool form, just like the ocean; he has qualities such as profundity etc similar to the ocean. He built a dam across the ocean with stones which would normally sink in the ocean, and achieved a feat which no one else can, in line with his quality of having <em>agadithagatanA<\/em> skill (achieving the impossible).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> achieved such feats not only for <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">pirAtti<\/a> (sIthAppirAtti, for rescuing whom he built the dam) but also for me . . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>eRkoNda vevvinaiyum nIngak kaNdu<\/strong> \u2013 when I was fully transformed like an insentient entity being enveloped by all the sins, he graced me such that all the sins ran helter skelter, just as mercifully mentioned by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> in periya thiruvandhAdhi \u201c<em>vAnO maRi kadalO mArudhamO thIyagamO kAnO orungiRRum kaNdilamAl<\/em>\u201d (How strange! After attaining emperumAn, we have not seen where the sins covering us went. Did they disappear in the sky or in the ocean or in the wind or in fire or in the forest?) <em>vevvinai<\/em> \u2013 cruel sins; some people split this as <em>ev vinay<\/em> \u2013 all the sins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vilangA manam kaNdu vaiththAn<\/strong> \u2013 he kept me in his mind through his <em>sankalpa<\/em> (divine will) and did not look at anything else. Just as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> has mercifully mentioned in periya thiruvandhAdhi 68 \u201c<em>kallum kanaikadalum vaigundha vAnAdum pullenRozhindhana<\/em>\u201d and <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhwAr<\/a> in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 5-4-9 \u201c<em>panikkadalil paLLigOLaip pazhagavittu Odivandhu <\/em>\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> left everything else and thought only of me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>aRiyAnElum \u2013 manam vaiththAn<\/strong> \u2013 even if emperumAn did not know my faults, he kept his mind on me. One who did not know, started knowing. One, who did not know my faults, multiplied my qualities ten times or hundred times and started engaging with me. One who is <em>avigyAthA<\/em> (one who does not know faults) became <em>sahasrAmsu<\/em> (knowing (qualities) thousand times) [from SrI vishNu sahasranAmam].<\/p>\n<p><strong>eEvvinaiyum mAyumAl<\/strong> \u2013 once he keeps his mind on me, is there any way by which the sins will not be destroyed? Thus, all sins such as <em>bhagavathapachAram<\/em> (disrespectful acts towards <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>), <em>bhAgavathapachAram<\/em> (disrespetful acts against emperumAn\u2019s followers) and <em>asahyApachAram<\/em> (disrespectful acts against anyone without any reason) will get destroyed.
