{"id":21969,"date":"2018-09-02T23:51:33","date_gmt":"2018-09-02T23:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=21969"},"modified":"2018-09-02T23:51:33","modified_gmt":"2018-09-02T23:51:33","slug":"nanmugan-thiruvandhadhi-75","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/09\/nanmugan-thiruvandhadhi-75\/","title":{"rendered":"nAnmugan thiruvandthAdhi &#8211; 75 &#8211; nAkkoNdu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><small>SrI: SrImathE SatakOpAya nama: SrImathE rAmAnujAya nama: SrImath varavaramunayE nama:<\/small><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/06\/nanmugan-thiruvandhadhi\/\">Full Series<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2018\/09\/nanmugan-thiruvandhadhi-74\/\">&lt;&lt; Previous<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/paramapadhanathan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-18991\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/paramapadhanathan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"344\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/paramapadhanathan.jpg 468w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/paramapadhanathan-300x245.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>avathArikai<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> asks whether he, who would not praise brahmA, rudhra et al who have abundant knowledge and power, will praise lowly human beings.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>nAkkoNdu mAnidam pAdEn nalamAgath<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thIkkoNda senjadaiyAn senRu enRum pUkkoNdu<\/em><br \/>\n<em>vallavAREththa\u00a0 magizhAdha vaigundhach<\/em><br \/>\n<em>chelvanAr sEvadimEl pAttu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>thIkkoNda sem sadaiyAn \u2013 rudhra who has reddish matted hair which looks like fire<br \/>\nnalam Aga \u2013 aptly<br \/>\nenRum \u2013 every day<br \/>\npU koNdu \u2013 carrying flowers<br \/>\nsenRu \u2013 (himself) going<br \/>\nvalla Aru \u2013 within his power<br \/>\nEththa \u2013 praise<br \/>\nmagizhAdha \u2013 not feeling happy (considering it as something great for him)<br \/>\nvaigundham selvanAr \u2013 SrI vaikuNta nAtha\u2019s<br \/>\nsE adi mEl pAttu \u2013 (with) the pAsurams which are fit for his divine feet<br \/>\nnAkkoNdu \u2013 with the tongue<br \/>\nmAnidam \u2013 human beings<br \/>\npAdEn \u2013 I will not sing<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>nAkkoNdu mAnidam pAdEn<\/strong> \u2013 Just as it is said \u201c<em>sA jihvA yA harim sthauthi<\/em>\u201d (only that which praises emperumAn is tongue), I will not sing about lowly human beings with the tongue which is to be used only for singing about <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> was asked \u201cThen, who will you sing?\u201d He responds \u201cI will sing about him who is praised by rudhra, who, you people think highly of\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>thIkkoNda senjadaiyAn<\/strong> \u2013 one who has reddish matted hair which has agni, that irritates the eyes, in it.\u00a0 Alternatively, just as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">poygai AzhwAr<\/a> had mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/09\/mudhal-thiruvandhadhi-97\/\">mudhal thiruvandhAdhi 97<\/a> \u201c<em>anaRku angai ERRAn<\/em>\u201d (held his beautiful hands for fire), one who has fire in his hands and reddish matted hair.<\/p>\n<p><strong>senRu enRUm<\/strong> \u2013 since it is ordained, going himself<\/p>\n<p><strong>pUkkoNdu vallavARu\u00a0 enRum Eththa<\/strong> \u2013 taking soft flower, water, lamp, <em>dhUpam<\/em> (fragrant smoke) etc,\u00a0 which are the implements for carrying out <a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2012\/07\/srivaishnava-thiruvaaraadhanam.html\"><em>thiruvArAdhanam <\/em>(divine worship)<\/a>, appropriate for the soft divine form of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>. Worshipping emperumAn every day, utilising the knowledge and power that he (rudhra) has, to the extent that he can. Mentioning flower is representative of other materials required for carrying out worhip.<\/p>\n<p><strong>enRum nalamAga Eththa<\/strong> \u2013 praising emperumAn appropriate to his greatness, at all times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vallavARu Eththa<\/strong> \u2013 however much one praises him, it (the act of praising) can never be considered to have been completed. Hence, praising (worshipping) him to the extent that one can. mahAbhAratham karNa parvam 83-65 says \u201c<em>varshAyuthair yasya guNA na SakyA vakthum samEthairapi sarvalOkai: <\/em>\u201d (whose qualities cannot be spoken of even if (people in) all the worlds get together and speak for ten thousand years&#8230;.); <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> in his <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/01\/thiruvaimozhi-4-3-10-yanum-eththi\/\">thiruvAimozhi 4-3-10<\/a> mercifully says \u201c<em>yAnum Eththi Ezhulagum muRRumEththip pinnaiyum thAnumEththilum thannai Eththa Eththa engeydum <\/em>\u201d (even \u00a0after I (who had been given knowledge through <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s grace) praise him, even after all the (people in the) seven worlds praise him, even after he himself praises him, is it possible to complete praising him?) emperumAn is of the kind where it is not possible to complete praising him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eththa magizhAdha<\/strong> \u2013 There is scope for <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> becoming happy only if he considers it great being praised by these people. In truth, the praising of such people creates only faults for him, as mentioned by nammAzhwAr in periya thiruvandhAdhi 2 \u201c<em>pugazhvOm pazhippOm<\/em>\u201d (if we, who do not have any knowledge, attempt to praise you, it will end up as a fault only) and in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/07\/thiruvaimozhi-3-1-7-vazhththuvar-palaraga\/\">thiruvAimozhi 3-1-7<\/a> \u201c<em>kEzhththa sIr araN mudhalAk kiLar dheyvamAyk kiLarndhu sUzhththamarargaL thudhiththAl un thol pugazh mAsUNAdhE <\/em>\u201d (if entities such as rudhra et al attempt to praise all your qualities by taking on their roles as small deities, each taking one aspect to praise you, will that not end up as faulting you?)<\/p>\n<p>What is the reason for emperumAn not being happy despite a superior entity such as rudhra praising him?<\/p>\n<p><strong>vaigundhach chelvanAr<\/strong> \u2013 since he is the lord of all the opulence in SrIvaikuNtam, such praises by dhEvas (celestial entities) will not bring about any change in his stature.<\/p>\n<p><strong>magizhAdha vaigundhach chelvanAr<\/strong> \u2013 did not vEdham also say as in thaiththirIya upanishath nArAyaNavalli 10-20 \u201c<em>vruksha iva sthabdhO dhivi thishtathyEka<\/em>\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> remains as incomparable in paramapadham, without any change, like a tree)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>magizhAdha vaigundhach chelvanAr<\/strong> \u2013 emperumAn does not feel happy when entities such as rudhra et al praise him as these entities, when qualities of rajas and thamas (passion and ignorance) are prominent, gear up to fight with him.
