As soon as he thought (about <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>) he mentions about the hardships that emperumAn underwent and looking at them, how he became engaged, in this pAsuram.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>idam Avadhu ennenjam inRellAm paNdu<\/em><br \/>\n<em>padanAgaNai nediya mARku dhidamAga<\/em><br \/>\n<em>vaiyEn madhi sUdi thannOdu ayanai nAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em>vaiyEn AtcheyyEn valam<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>paNdu \u2013 before (my thinking)<br \/>\npadam nAga aNai nediya mARku \u2013 to the supreme being who is reclining on SEshasayanam (mattress of AdhiSEshan) who has hoods<br \/>\ninRu \u2013 from now onwards<br \/>\nellAm \u2013 for all times to come<br \/>\nidam Avadhu \u2013 dwelling place<br \/>\nen nenjam \u2013 my heart<br \/>\nmadhi sUdi thannOdu \u2013 rudhra who carries chandhra on his head<br \/>\nayanai \u2013 brahmA too<br \/>\ndhidam Aga \u2013 as supreme beings<br \/>\nvaiyEn \u2013 I will not keep them in my heart<br \/>\nvaiyEn nAn \u2013 I who am having subtle knowledge (to discern who is the supreme being)<br \/>\nvalam \u2013 with the strength (acquired due to nearness to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>)<br \/>\nAL seyyEn \u2013 I will not carry out service to those <em>dhEvathAntharams<\/em> (other deities)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>idam Avadhu en nenjam inRu ellAm<\/strong> \u2013 after I kept emperumAn in my heart, nowadays my heart has become his dwelling place.<\/p>\n<p>Where was he before this?<\/p>\n<p><strong>paNdu pada nAgaNai<\/strong> \u2013 before this, it was atop AdhiSEshan whose hoods became puffed up due to proximity with <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, that he was reclining.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nediya mARku<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0 for the supreme being who is superior to everyone else.<\/p>\n<p><strong>idamAvadhu en . . . nediya mARku<\/strong> \u2013 since emperumAn has deep affection, he established himself firmly in my lowly heart. The same meaning has been explained by this <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> himself in thiruchchandha viruththam 64 \u201c<em>anRu vehkaNaik kidandhadhennilAdha munnelAm<\/em>\u201d (before reaching my heart, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> was dwelling in thiruvehkA) and in thiruchchandha viruththam 65 \u201c<em>kidappadhum naRperum thiraikkadaluL nAn ilAdha munnelAm<\/em>\u201d (before I came, emperumAn used to recline on the milky ocean) and by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhwAr<\/a> in his periyAr thirumozhi 5-4-9 \u201c<em>panikkadalil paLLigOLaip pazhagavittu Odi vendhen manakkadalil vAzhavalla mAya maNALa nambi <\/em>\u201d(leaving aside the cool thiruppARkadal, emperumAn, who has amazing powers, who is the consort of pirAtti and who is complete in auspicious qualities, is capable of entering my mind and living there).<\/p>\n<p><strong>nediya mARku<\/strong> \u2013 one who has affection bettering mine. <em>mAl <\/em>\u2013 one who is great; one who is affectionate. Just as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> had mercifully said in thiruvAimozhi 9-6-10 \u201c<em>vArikkoNdu unnai vizhunguvan kANilenRu ArvuRRa ennai ozhiya ennin munnam pAriththuth thAn ennai muRRum paruginAn<\/em>\u201d (before I could enjoy him, he, with greater desire than mine, ate me up completely), <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who has a greater affection towards me than I have towards him, entered my lowly heart and established himself there.<\/p>\n<p>When asked \u201cWhat did you do?\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says, in the second part of this pAsuram that he made his heart suitable for emperumAn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>dhidamAga vaiyEn<\/strong> \u2013 I will not keep other deities as stable entities in my heart.<\/p>\n<p>Who are those deities?<\/p>\n<p><strong>madhi sUdi thannOdu ayanai<\/strong> \u2013 rudhra, who gave shelter for chandhra when he was in a precarious position, thus protecting him, due to which he thought vainly that he is the protector for all and, brahmA, who, because he was born in a lotus, thought that he was an <em>ayOnija <\/em>(born without staying in a womb).
