In this pAsuram he instructs others the way in which they can spend their time purposefully.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>pOdhAna vittiRainji EththuminO ponmagarak<\/em><br \/>\n<em>kAdhAnai AdhipperumAnai nAdhAnai<\/em><br \/>\n<em>nallAnai nAraNanai nammEzh piRappaRUkkum<\/em><br \/>\n<em>sollAnaich cholluvadhE sUdhu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>pon magaram kAdhAnai \u2013 one who is donning beautiful earrings in the shape of fish<br \/>\nAdhi \u2013 the causative entity for the world<br \/>\nperumAnai \u2013 one with greatness<br \/>\nnAdhAnai \u2013 being the lord (of all)<br \/>\nnallAnai \u2013 having the quality of vAthsalyam (motherly love)<br \/>\nnAraNanai \u2013 one who is famously known as nArAyaNa<br \/>\nnam Ezh piRappu aRukkum sollAnai \u2013 about the<em> purushOththama <\/em>(best among all sentient entities) whose divine names will sever our connection with repeated births<br \/>\npOdhu Ana ittu iRainji EththuminO \u2013 offering anything which goes in the name of flower, bowing down to him and praising him<br \/>\nsolluvadhE \u2013 reciting (his divine names wholeheartedly)<br \/>\nsUdhu \u2013 apt activity for us<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>pOdhAna ittu iRainji EththuminO<\/strong> \u2013 offer whatever goes in the name of flower at his divine feet; bow down to him with your mind and praise him with your mouth. By using the word <em>pOdhAna<\/em> AzhwAr is hinting that if offered with devotion, there is no flower which is unacceptable to emperumAn. kaNNan (krishNa) had mercifully said in <a href=\"http:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/9-26\/\">SrI bhagavath gIthA 9.26<\/a> \u201c<em>pathram pushpam &#8230;.. bhakthyupahrutham aSnAmi <\/em>\u201d (I accept with affection, whatever leaf or flower has been offered to me with devotion). <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumangai-azhwar\/\">thirumangai AzhwAr<\/a> too considered that there is no flower which is unacceptable to emperumAn in his pAsuram \u201c<em>kaLLAr thuzhAyum kaNavalarum kUviLaiyum muLLAr muLariyum Ambalum &#8230;. puLLAy OrEnamumAy pukkidandhAn ponnadikku <\/em>\u201c. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> also mercifully mentioned in his <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/08\/thiruvaimozhi-1-6-1-parivathil-isanai\/\">thiruvAimozhi 1.6.1<\/a> \u201c<em>purivadhum pugai pUvE<\/em>\u201d. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/parasara-bhattar\/\">parASara bhattar<\/a> who was one day giving a discourse on this subject, mentioned that even if trash is burnt and smoke is generated, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> will accept that; even if kaNdagAlippU (a type of flower) is offered,he will accept that. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nanjiyar\/\">nanjIyar<\/a>, his disciple, interjected and said that SAsthras do not accept kaNdagAlippU \u201c<em>na kaNdakArikA pushpam dhEvAya vinivEdhayEth<\/em>\u201d to which bhattar responded \u201cit is not that SAsthram had rejected kaNdagAlippU. It is only because the thorns in the plant will pierce the hands of his devotees that this has been avoided\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>ittu iRainji EththuminO<\/strong> \u2013 by using the word <em>ittu<\/em> the service through physical faculty has been stressed; <em>iRainji <\/em>refers to service through the faculty of mind and <em>EththuminO <\/em>refers to service through the faculty of mouth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pon magarak kAdhAnai<\/strong> \u2013 one who has divine ears which are decorated with desirable golden ear-rings in the shape of fish. AzhwAr used the word <em>poR kAdhAnai<\/em> to hint that emperumAn is very precious and is to be worshipped by offering him gifts, just as one buys gold and protects it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adhip perumAnai<\/strong> \u2013 unlike some materials, which though looking beautiful, will not be apt for us, he is most apt for us and has the greatness of creating us all.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether he will accept us, AzhwAr says . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAdhAnai<\/strong> \u2013 one who will accept us because he is our <em>swAmy<\/em> (lord)<\/p>\n<p>Will he despise us because of our faults?<\/p>\n<p><strong>nallAnai<\/strong> \u2013 one who does not see any faults in us. One who considers our faults as our auspicious qualities due to his auspicious quality of <em>vAthsalyam<\/em> (showing motherly love).<\/p>\n<p>What is the proof that he has such greatness?<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAraNanai<\/strong> \u2013 AzhwAr says that the name nArAyaNa itself announces to the world his greatness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AdhipperumAnai nAraNanai<\/strong> \u2013 At the time of creation, since the <em>nArA:<\/em> (the clusters of souls) take shelter in him, the word nArAyaNa shows his ability to create all beings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAdhAnai nAraNanai<\/strong> \u2013 \u00a0emperumAn sustains and pervades all souls and is their means as well as goal. The word nArAyaNa also indicates his being the lord of all. nammAzhwAr mercifully said in his <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/04\/thiruvaimozhi-2-7-2-naranan\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2-7-2<\/a> \u201c<em>nAraNan muzhuvEzhulagukkum nAdhan<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nallAnai nAraNanai<\/strong> \u2013 instead of despising the lowly cluster of souls, since he pervades them completely, the word nArAyaNa also indicates <em>vAthsalya guNa<\/em> (motherly love). thirumangai AzhwAr mercifully said in his periya thirumozhi 6-10-4 \u201c<em>nallAnudaya nAmami sollil namO nArAyaNamE<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAraNanai nammEzh piRappaRukkum sollAnai<\/strong> \u2013 one who is referred to by the divine word of nArAyaNa which will sever us from all our births. Has it not been said in vEdha \u201c<em>sankIrthya nArAyaNa SabdhamAthram vimuktha dhu:khA: sukinObhavanthi <\/em>\u201d (the moment people recite the name of nArAyaNa their sorrows are removed and they attain mOksha)?\u00a0 thirumangai AzhwAr too mercifully said in his periya thirumozhi 1-1-9 \u201c<em>adiyAr paduthuyarAyinavellAm nilandharanjeyyum nArAyaNa ennum nAmam<\/em>\u201d (reciting the divine name of nArAyaNa will destroy all the sorrows of followers).
