Looking at this, AzhwAr is elated saying \u201cif others think of emperumAn, the supreme being will merely remove the sorrows of their minds. However in my case, he establishes firmly in my mind, without any cause, falling head over heels, like a firmly rooted plant. No one else has this wealth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>manakkEdham sArA madhusUdhan thannai<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thanakEdhAn thanjamAkkoLLil enakkEdhAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em>inRonRi ninRulagai EzhANai OttinAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em>senRonRi ninRa thiru<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>madhusUdhan thannai \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who killed the demon <em>madhu<br \/>\n<\/em>thanakkE thanjam A thAn koLLil \u2013 if one takes(emperumAn) as his refuge<br \/>\nmanak kEdham \u2013 troubles of the mind<br \/>\nsArA \u2013 will not reach<br \/>\nonRi ninRu \u2013 (without letting go) standing firmly<br \/>\nEzh ulagai \u2013 in all the seven worlds<br \/>\nANai OttinAn \u2013 emperumAn who rules with his sceptre<br \/>\ninRu \u2013 today<br \/>\nthAn \u2013 he himself<br \/>\nsenRu \u2013 coming (to me)<br \/>\nonRi ninRa thiru \u2013 the wealth which is fitting (in me)<br \/>\nenakkE \u2013 is only for me and for no one else.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>manakkEdham<\/strong> \u2013 if we consider this as a derivative of the Sanskrit word <em>mana: kEdha:<\/em>, it will mean sorrows of the mind. Alternatively, this word can be split into <em>manaththukku Edham<\/em> which will mean faults of the mind such as ignorance etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>manakkEdham sArA madhusUdhan thannaith thanakkE thAn thanjamAk koLLil<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> had killed the demons madhu and kaitabha when they stole the vEdhas and spread ignorance in the world, and protected brahmA, rudhra et al. If one takes such emperumAn as the means, emperumAn will destroy ignorance in his mind just as he destroyed madhu \/ kaitabha and shower his grace on him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thanakkE thAn thanjamAk koLLil<\/strong> \u2013 this implies that this is the status of <em>svagatha svIkAra nishtA<\/em> &#8211; one who holds on to emperumAn on his own efforts. Those who surrender are of two types \u2013 those who are <em>svagatha svIkAra nishtA<\/em> [just now explained] and <em>paragatha<\/em> <em>svIkAra nishtA <\/em>\u2013 one who looks up to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> to enable him to hold on to emperumAn, thinking \u201cthe owner will hold on to his possession when he wants\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Thus <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> spoke of the status of <em>svagatha svIkAra nishta<\/em> in the first two lines. In the next two lines, AzhwAr speaks about the way emperumAn distinctly treats <em>paragatha svIkAra nishtA<\/em> \u2013 himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>enakkEdhAn inRonRi ninRulagai EzhANai OttinAN senRonRi ninRa thiru<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is referred to as one who pervades all the worlds both inside and outside, as mentioned in nArAyaNa sUktham \u201c<em>antharbahiScha thathsarvam nArAyaNasthitha:\u201d<\/em> AzhwAr says that he got the great wealth of such emperumAn who is like a well fitting great emperor of all the worlds, who came on his own into this mind and stayed firmly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>enakkEdhAn<\/strong> \u2013 the affection which emperumAn has towards those who look up to him is many times more than the affection that emperumAn has towards those who seek him out on their own. Thus his affection towards herdsmen, herdswomen, herdsgirls, cows, calves is ten times deeper than with others. This is the greatest treasure which is hidden in such pramANams (authentic sources of information) such as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/azhwars\/\">AzhwArs<\/a>\u2019 pAsurams \u201c<em>thivaththilum pasunirai mEyppu uvaththi<\/em>\u201d (you are more joyous tending to cows than you are in paramapadham), \u201c<em>kanRu mEyththu inidhugandha<\/em>\u201d (one who is the most joyous tending to calves), \u201c<em>kAli mEykka vallAn<\/em>\u201d (one who is strong in grazing cattle), \u201c<em>kanRu mEyththu viLaiyAda vallAn<\/em>\u201d (one who is strong in grazing and playing with calves) etc.<\/p>\n<p>This pAsuram explains clearly the meaning of the <em>vEdha vAkyam<\/em> (saying of vEdha) \u201c<em>prajApathis thvam vEdha<\/em> I <em>prajApathim thvO vEdha<\/em> I <em>yam prajApathir vEdha sa puNyO bhavathi<\/em>\u201d (supreme being attains one (on his own). One attains supreme being, seeking him out, on his own.
