Some people asked him \u201cYou are full of sathva guNa (purely good qualities). This being the case, could you use lowly words such as pEy (foolish people) or nAy (dog) and talk ill of others? Don\u2019t elders say that we should avoid abusing others?\u201d to which AzhwAr responds in this pAsuram saying \u201cIt is not out of taste in abuse that I spoke that way. Those who do not involve themselves with matters relating to emperumAn not only destroy themselves but are fools who destroy the basic nature of others too. If those who I had abused as fools become followers of emperumAn, they would become acceptable people to me too!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>kadhaip poruLdhAn kaNNan thiruvayiRRinuLLa<\/em><br \/>\n<em> udhaippaLavu pOdhu pOkkinRi vadhaipporuLdhAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em> vAyndha guNaththup padAdhadhu adaiminO<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Ayndha guNaththAn adi<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>kadhaip poruLdhAn \u2013 <em>smruthi, ithihAsa, purAnas <\/em>(narratives which are quoted as authentic texts)<br \/>\nkaNNan thiruvayiRRinuLLa \u2013 owe their existence to the supreme being\u2019s <em>sankalpa <\/em>(vow)<br \/>\nudhaippu aLavu \u2013 every moment<br \/>\npOdhu pOkkinRi \u2013 without spending (in any other manner)<br \/>\nvAyndha guNaththup padAdhadhu \u2013 without involving in the amazing auspicious qualities (of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>)<br \/>\nvadhaipporuLdhAn \u2013 is only hurting others<br \/>\nAyndha guNaththAn \u2013 emperumAn who has faultless qualities, his<br \/>\nadi \u2013 divine feet<br \/>\nadaiminO &#8211; attain<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>kadhaipporuLdhAn<\/strong> \u2013 ithihAsas (epics)and purAnas (old, yet remaining fresh, treatises) which have narration as the primary focus and smruthis (explanatory texts for vEdhas) which have philosophy as the primary focus. In the previous pAsuram, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> had mentioned about <em>karumAyam pEsil kadhai <\/em>(if one were to talk about the sufferings of people in their mothers\u2019 wombs, it would be as expansive as mahAbhAratha), hence he is referring to it here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kadhaipporuLdhAn kaNNan thiruvayiRRinuLLa<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that the ithihAsas and purANas which talk about our <em>karumAyam<\/em> (what we endure in our mothers\u2019 wombs) are dependent on <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s vow. The implied meaning is that only emperumAn is capable of removing them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thiruvayiRRinuLLa<\/strong> \u2013 the term <em>vayIru<\/em> actually refers to the inner seat of mind and thus to its activity of <em>sankalpa<\/em> or vow. From authentic sources such as (1) ALavandhAr\u2019s chathu:SlOkI\u00a0 \u201c<em>aravindha lOchanamana: kAnthA<\/em>\u201d (he is dear to the entity with lotus-like eyes); (2) SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam SlOkam \u201c<em>asyA dhEvyA manasthanmin thasyas chAsyAm prathishtitham<\/em>\u201d (this dhEvi\u2019s mind is established in his (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s) divine mind, and his divine mind is fixed in hers); (3) thiruvAimozhi 10-3-9 \u201c<em>undhan thiruvuLLam idarkedundhORum<\/em>\u201d (whenever your divine mind is pleased), it is clear that emperumAn has an <em>aprAkrutha manas<\/em> (mind, not made of primordial matter). <em>pramANams<\/em> (authentic sources of information) such as \u201c<em>aprANO hyamanA:<\/em>\u201d (lifeless; mindless), \u201c<em>paSyathyachakshu: ya SruNOthyakarNa:<\/em>\u201d (even though he is without eyes, he sees; even though he is without ears, he hears) affirm that emperumAn does not have primordial mind, eyes, ears etc and that he does not have to see with eyes, does not have to hear with ears and does not have to carry out a vow with his mind. Thus the term <em>vayiRu<\/em> would refer to his mind and to its activity of carrying out <em>sankalpa.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>kadhaipporuL &#8230;&#8230; pOdhu pOkkinRi<\/strong> \u2013 vyAkyAthA <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/appillai\/\">appiLLai<\/a> construed this to mean that all the <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">jIvAthmAs<\/a> who are referred to in ithihAsas and purANas sustain their existence every moment, through <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s <em>sankalpa<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>udhaippaLavu pOdhupOkkinRi vAyndha guNaththup padAdhadhu vadhaipporuLdhAn<\/strong> \u2013 instead of continuously involving with the amazing qualities of emperumAn, being engaged with other matters is considered as causing hurt to the world. How can such people be called other than as <em>pEygAL<\/em> (ignorant fools)? If one were to ask whether calling such people as fools is not abusing others, all that one can say is that such people, apart from losing their existence (<em>asannEva bhavathi<\/em>), will make those who follow them also as non-existing. Thus they will be the leaders of hurting others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>udhaippaLavu &#8230;. vadhaipporuLdhAn<\/strong> \u2013 it will be termed as hurting others if they do not involve with <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s matters even for a moment. Haven\u2019t rishis too mercifully said \u201c<em>yanmuhUrtham kshaNam vApi vAsudhEvO na chinthyathE<\/em> I <em>sA hAnis thanmahachchidhram sA brAnthis sA cha vikriyA <\/em>II\u201d (if vAsudhEva (emperumAn, referred to here as son of vasudhEva) is not thought of for a muhUrththam (a time frame equivalent to 48 minutes) or even for a moment, that itself is cause for lowliness; that is a great trouble; that is bewilderment; that is distortion or ugliness)! <em>udhaippu<\/em> \u2013 moment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vadhaipporuLdhAn vAyndha guNaththup padAdhadhu<\/strong> \u2013 jIvAthmAs who engage with worldly matters and get destroyed [of their svarUpam] will not involve with <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s auspicious qualities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>adaiminO Ayndha guNaththAn adi<\/strong> \u2013 attain the divine feet of emperumAn who has faultless qualities.
