In this pAsuram he says \u201cIs it only for me that he removes sorrows? Even for brahmA, rudhra et al who you people consider as deities, it is only he who removes the sorrows; attain him\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>mEl nAnmugan aranaiyitta vidu sAbam<\/em><br \/>\n<em> thAn nAraNan ozhiththAN thAragaiyuL vAnOr<\/em><br \/>\n<em> perumAnai EththAdha pEygAL piRakkum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> karumAyam pEsil kadhai<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>mEl \u2013 once upon a time<br \/>\nnAnmugan \u2013 brahmA<br \/>\naranai \u2013 rudhra<br \/>\nitta \u2013 given<br \/>\nvidusAbam \u2013 curse<br \/>\nthAragaiyuL \u2013 on this earth (for everyone to know)<br \/>\nnAraNan thAn \u2013 nArayaNa himself<br \/>\nozhiththAn \u2013 mercifully got rid of<\/p>\n<p>(such)<br \/>\nvAnOr perumAnai \u2013 SrIman nArayana, the lord of nithyasUris<br \/>\nEththAdha \u2013 not praising him<br \/>\npEygAL \u2013 Oh foolish people!<br \/>\npiRakkum karu \u2013 inside the womb which is the basis for birth<\/p>\n<p>(experienced by you people)<br \/>\nmAyam \u2013 the amazing sorrows<br \/>\npEsil \u2013 if one were to talk<br \/>\nkadhai \u2013 it will be as expansive as mahAbhAratha narrative.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>mEl nAnmugan aranai itta vidu sAbam<\/strong> \u2013 the curse which the father brahmA gave his son rudhra when rudhra plucked out one of brahmA\u2019s heads<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAn nArANanozhiththAn thAragaiyuL<\/strong> \u2013 it was nArAyaNa who got rid of that curse in such a way that all the people on earth knew about it. It is pertinent here to reminisce the SlOkam in mAthsya purANam:<\/p>\n<p><em>dhEvIm prathi rudhra: thatha: krOdha parIthEna samrakthanayanEna cha I<\/em><br \/>\n<em>vAmAngushtAnakAgrENa chinnan thasya SirO mayA II<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>brahmA \u2013 yasmAdhanaparAdhasya Siraschithan thvayA mama I<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thasmAchchApasamAvishta: kapAlI thvam bhavishyasi II<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>rudhra: brahmahAkulithO bhUthvA charam thIrthdhAni bhUthalE I<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thathO\u2019ham kathavaN dhEvi! Himavantham SilOchchayamII<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>thathra nArAyaNaS SrImAn mayA bhikshAm prayAchitha: I<\/em><br \/>\n<em>thathasthEna svakam pArSvam nAkAgrENa vidhAritham II<\/em><br \/>\n<em>mahathI sravathI dhArA thasya rakthasya nissruthA II<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>vishNu prasAdhAth suSrONi! kapAlam thathsahasradhA I<\/em><br \/>\n<em>spuditham bahUdhA yAtham svapnalabhdham dhanam yadhA II<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(rudhran informing dhEvi \u2013 \u2018later the head of that brahmA was plucked by me, who has a lot of anger and reddish eyes, with a corner of my left thumb nail. brahmA cursed me saying \u201cSince my faultless head was severed by you, you will roam around due to my curse as a kapAli (one who is with a skull). Oh dhevi! As one who caused hurt to a brAhmaNa, and with saddened heart, I went to many holy waters \u00a0and then I went to himAlayas. There, I begged SrIman nArAyaNa to rid me of my curse. Then, a part of his body was scratched by him with his fingernail and from that blood poured out like flood waters. &#8230; Oh supreme beauty! With the mercy of vishNu, that skull broke into a thousand pieces and disappeared like wealth that one obtained in his dream)\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAragai<\/strong> \u2013 derived from the root \u201c<em>dhArathIthi dhArakA<\/em>\u201d (earth is called as dhArakA since it bears everything), this refers to earth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAragaiyuL<\/strong> \u2013 he [<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>] got rid [of the curse]\u00a0 in such a way that everyone on earth knew about it. He removed the curse so that rudhra got the famous names of <em>kapAli<\/em> and <em>bikshANda<\/em> and emperumAn got the famous name <em>harapApahara<\/em> (one who removed the sin of rudhra).<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAnOr perumAnai<\/strong> \u2013 son stood like a sinner since he severed the father\u2019s head; father stood sorrowfully having lost his head; <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> rid the sorrows of both. nithyasUris, who saw this happening, ceded themselves to emperumAn.
