Some people who heard about AzhwAr\u2019s prayer asked him \u201cIs it enough if you are always a vaishNava? Is it not required to reach mOksha?\u201d. AzhwAr says \u201cOh ignorant people! When emperumAn who usually remains in mOksha discards that and enters my heart, is there any possibility for my desiring anything other than my heart?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>mAl thAn pugundha mada nenjam maRRadhuvum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> pERAgak koLvanO pEdhaigAL nIRAdi<\/em><br \/>\n<em> thAn kANa mAttAdha thAragalach chEvadiyai<\/em><br \/>\n<em> yAn kANa vallERkidhu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word for Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>pEdhaigAL \u2013 Oh foolish people!<br \/>\nnIRAdi thAn \u2013 rudhra who has his body covered with ash<br \/>\nkANa mAttAdha \u2013 not worshipped<br \/>\nthAr \u2013 donned with garland<br \/>\nagalam \u2013 being expansive<br \/>\nsEvadiyai \u2013 the divine foot<br \/>\nkANa vallERku \u2013 for me who is fortunate to worship that<br \/>\nmAl \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a><br \/>\nthAn pugundha \u2013 that which he entered on his volition<br \/>\nmada nenjam idhu \u2013 more than this obedient heart (of mine)<br \/>\nmaRRadhuvum \u2013 anything else<br \/>\npERu Aga \u2013 as a benefit<br \/>\nyAn koLvanO \u2013 will I accept? [ No. I will not]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>mAl thAn pugundha mada nenjam<\/strong> \u2013 just as it is mentioned in pramANams such as in thaiththirIya upanishath bhruguvalli \u201c<em>yath &#8230;..abhisam visanthi thath vijijyAsasva thath brahmEthi<\/em>\u201d (know that as brahmam (supreme being) into which those who attain liberation enter), in <a href=\"http:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/11-54\/\">SrI bhagavath gIthA 11.54<\/a> \u201c<em>bhakthyA thavananyayA Sakya: ahamEvam vidhOrjuna <\/em>I <em>gyAthum dhrashtum cha thathvEna pravEshtuncha paranthapa<\/em> II\u201d (Oh arjuna who singes enemies in battlefield! Only with totally focussed bhakthi could I be known, seen and entered upon), \u201c<em>Esha brahmA pravishtOsmi grIshmE SIthamiva hradham<\/em>\u201d (I enter brahmam just as one enters a cool, comfortable pond in hot summer time), <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is such an entity who is apt to be entered into by all. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that such an entity has entered his heart on his [emperumAn\u2019s] own volition!<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAl thAn pugundha<\/strong> \u2013 did not the great supreme being enter my heart! mAl \u2013 great person.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAl thAn pugundha<\/strong> \u2013 did not one who is the epitome of affection enter my heart! mAl \u2013 one with affection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>maRRadhuvum pERAgak koLvanO pEdhaigAL<\/strong> \u2013 leaving this [heart, which he has entered] could I consider anything else [SrIvaikuNtam] as a benefit? Don\u2019t the words of great persons reflect this opinion \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruppanazhwar\/\">thiruppANAzhwAr<\/a>\u2019s amalanAdhipirAn 10 \u201c<em>en amudhinikaik kaNda kaNgaL maRRonRinai kANAvE<\/em>\u201d (my eyes which have seen the divine form of periya perumAL will not see anything else), <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thondaradippodi-azhwar\/\">thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/07\/thirumalai-2-part-2\/\">thirumAlai 2<\/a> \u201c<em>achchuvai perinum vENdEn<\/em>\u201d (I will not desire even if offered SrIvaikuNtam, after seeing periya perumAL), thiruvadi\u2019s saying in SrI rAmAyaNam \u201c<em>bhAvO nAnyathra gachchthi<\/em>\u201d (I will not relish any other benefit elsewhere)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>madanenjam maRRadhuvum pERAgak koLvanO<\/strong> \u2013 hasn\u2019t <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> mercifully stated similar meaning in his periya thiruvandhAdhi 53 \u201c<em>nin pugazhil vaigum tham sindhaiyilummaRRinidhO nIyavarkku vaigundham enRaLum vAn <\/em>\u201d (is your offering of SrIvaikuNtam [to your followers] greater than your being in their minds) and in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/08\/thiruvasiriyam-2\/\">thiruvAsiriyam 2<\/a> \u201c<em>mAyAp peruviRalulagam mUnRinodu nalveedu perinum koLvadheNNumO theLLiyOr kuRippE <\/em>\u201d (will the knowledgeable ones desire even mOksham apart from the three worlds&#8230;..)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAlthAn pugundha mada nenjam maRRadhuvum pERAgak koLvanO pEdhaigAL<\/strong> \u2013 Just as mercifully mentioned\u00a0 by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhwAr<\/a> in his periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 5-4-10 \u201c<em>vadathadamum vaikunthamum madhiL thuvarApadhiyum idavagaigaL igazhndhitttu enpAl idavagai koNdanaiyE<\/em>\u201d (discarding your great dwelling places of banyan leaf, SrIvaikuNtam, dhwArakA etc, you took residence inside my heart), when <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> has discarded SrIvaikuNtam in favour of my heart, should I discard my heart and go to SrIvaikuNtam?<\/p>\n<p><strong>pEdahigAL<\/strong> \u2013 you people who don\u2019t know this, are indeed fools only.<\/p>\n<p>When asked as how he got such firm faith, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><strong>nIRAdi thAn kANamAttAdha thAragalachchEvadiyai yAnkANa vallERkidhu<\/strong> \u2013 am I not the one who has been able to see the divine foot which is expansive and which is donned with garland, and which could not be seen by rudhra who has smeared ash all over his physical body! What is surprising in my having firm faith in such supreme being!<\/p>\n<p><strong>nIRAdi thAn kANa mAttAdha<\/strong> \u2013 it is the divine foot which rudhra who is claimed to bestow knowledge on others as per the saying \u201c<em>ISvarAth gyAnamanvichchEdh<\/em>\u201d (let the chEthana obtain knowledge from rudhra), could not see. It is something which the one who is claimed to be omniscient could not know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nIRAdi thAn<\/strong> kANamAttAdha \u2013 just as mentioned by brahmA in mahAbhAratham brahmarudhra samvAdham \u201c<em>na sa Sakyas thvayA dhrashtum mayAnyair vApi saththama <\/em>\u201d (that supreme being cannot be seen by me (brahmA) or by you (rudhra)), and in SrI vishNu purANam \u201c<em>yanna dhEvA na munaya: na chAham na cha Sankara: <\/em>I <em>jAnanthi paramESasya thadh vishNO: paramam padham<\/em> II\u201d (that which the dhEvas, sages, I (brahmA), Sankara do not know, that is the supreme dwelling place of vishNu), this is not known to many celestial entities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nIRAdi thAn kANAmAttAdha thAr<\/strong> \u2013 it is not that rudhra does not know the divine foot. He does not know even the garland which is decorating that divine foot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAralagalach chEvadiyai<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> has mercifully mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/10\/thiruvaimozhi-1-9-7-tholinai-melum\/\">thiruvAimozhi 1-9-7<\/a> \u201c<em>thALiNaimElum punaindha thaNNandhuzhAyudai ammAn<\/em>\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> has the cool and comfortable thuLasi garland on his divine foot).<\/p>\n<p><strong>nIRAdi thAn kANamAttAdha thAragalach chEvadiyai<\/strong> \u2013 when emperumAn incarnated as thrivikrama, brahmA washed emeprumAn\u2019s divine foot which reached sathyalOkam (brahmA\u2019s dwelling place) with water and rudhra took that purified water (which had the connection with <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s divine foot) on his head. Thus, rudhra saw only the water but not emperumAn\u2019s divine foot. It was the divine foot that even brahmA hadn\u2019t seen as mentioned by <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">poygai AzhwAr<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/08\/mudhal-thiruvandhadhi-56\/\">mudhal thiruvandhAdhi 56<\/a> \u201c<em>kadikkamalaththuLLirundhum kANgilAn kaNNan adikkamalandhannai ayan<\/em>\u201d (through residing in the fragrant lotus emanating from emperumAn\u2019s navel, brahmA has not seen the divine foot of emperumAn).\u00a0 Thus, when brahmA, who resides in such close proximity to emperumAn has not seen his divine foot, is there any surprise that rudhra has not seen the divine foot?<\/p>\n<p><strong>kANavallERku<\/strong> \u2013 with causeless mercy, when emperumAn displays his divine foot, I am able to see it, says <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thirumazhisai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>.
