People need not torture their physical forms in order to attain what they desire. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/peyazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> tells the people of the world that emperumAn has taken residence in these places without bothering about his well being and is carrying out tasks for us and hence you do not have to carry out penance by harming your physical forms.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>poruppidaiyE ninRum punal kuLiththum aindhu<\/em><br \/>\n<em> neruppidaiyE niRkavum nIr vENdA viruppudaiya<\/em><br \/>\n<em> vehkAvE sErndhAnai meymmalar thUyk kai thozhudhAl<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ahkAvE thI vinaigaL Ayndhu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>nIr \u2013 you all (Oh people of the world!)<br \/>\nporuppu idaiyE \u2013 amidst the mountains<br \/>\nninRum \u2013 standing<br \/>\npunal \u2013 in the waterways<br \/>\nkuLiththum \u2013 immersing in them<br \/>\naindhu neruppidaiyE \u2013 amidst <em>panchAgni<\/em> (five fires)<br \/>\nniRkavum \u2013 doing penance, standing<br \/>\nvENdA \u2013 there is no need<br \/>\nviruppu udaiya \u2013 being desired (by all)<br \/>\nvehkA \u2013 at <a href=\"http:\/\/thiruvekka.koyil.org\">thiruvehkA<\/a> (a divine abode in present day kAnchIpuram)<br \/>\nsErndhAnai \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who has come there and is reclining<br \/>\nmey \u2013 without expecting any benefit<br \/>\nmalar thUy kai thozhudhAl \u2013 if one offers flowers and worships<br \/>\nthI vinaigaL \u2013 bad deeds\u00a0 (sins, results of such bad deeds)<br \/>\nAyndhu \u2013 analysing (that there is no place for us here) and knowing<br \/>\nahkAvE \u2013 won\u2019t they shrink? (implies that they will run away)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyanam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>poruppidaiyE ninRum punal kuLiththum<\/strong> \u2013 standing amidst mountains during snowing winter time and taking bath in holy rivers during winter months<\/p>\n<p><strong>aindhu neruppidaiyE niRkavum nIr vENdA<\/strong> \u2013 lighting fires on all four sides and standing amidst them, with the sun in the sky burning down, during hot summer months (thus standing amidst five fires); there is no need to carry out any penance like this and suffer. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/peyazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> is asking whether we have to get rid of our sins by suffering like this. Instead, he tells us to follow the simple method given below and get rid of our sorrows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>viruppudaiya vehkAvE sErndhAnai<\/strong> \u2013 going to thiruvehkA, which <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> and others like, where he has taken residence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mey malar thUy kai thozhudhAl<\/strong> \u2013 instead of mixing up with the falsity of desiring other benefits, if we truly consider the benefit of desiring only emperumAn, offer flowers\u00a0 and worship him, and attain him<\/p>\n<p><strong>ahkAvE thIvinaigaL Ayndhu<\/strong> \u2013 bad deeds, analysing that this is not the correct place for us, will run away. Will they stay there a moment longer? Sins will analyse that this is not the correct place for us and will flee the place. Do sins have knowledge to analyse? An old saying goes like this \u201c<em>vrushti prathIkshASchalAya:<\/em>\u201d (paddy field is expecting rain). In the same way we should consider this too. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhwAr<\/a> too has divinely mentioned in his periyAzhwAr thirumozhi \u00a05.4.3 \u201c<em>summenAdhE kaivittOdith thURugaL pAyndhanavE<\/em>\u201d ((the sins) without even breathing, ran and hid themselves in the bushes).<\/p>\n<p><strong>vehkAvE sErndhAnai<\/strong> \u2013 while he has come to thiruvehkA as if he is carrying out a deed in order to attain you all, do you also have to perform a deed in order to attain him?\u00a0 Is there need for two people to undertake two tasks for attaining the same benefit?<\/p>\n<p><strong>meymmalar thUvi Ayndhu<\/strong> \u2013 we can construe the meaning for this as \u2013 if we analyse his auspicious qualities, meditate on those and worship him with our hands, sins will not come anywhere near us.
