In his second prabandham thirukkuRunthANdakam, since <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> did not show himself to AzhwAr as He wanted AzhwAr to have more hunger for His visit, AzhwAr was not able to bear the delay, and like how an extremely thirsty person would drink and immerse himself into the water, and pour water on himself, AzhwAr sang about <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a> by talking, and prostrating, and thinking about Him, and tried to sustain himself.<\/p>\n<p>When one drinks some bit of water, he would feel like drinking more and more. AzhwAr also felt much more thirst for <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, and so in his third prabandham of <strong>thiruvezhukURRirukkai<\/strong>, he surrendered to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aravamudan.in\/\">thirukkudandhai<\/a> ArAvamudhan with great longing for Him. So this is a saraNAgathi prabandham. (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> also performed saraNagathi to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aravamudan.in\/\">thirukkudandhai<\/a> ArAvamudhan \u2013 <a title=\"thiruvAimozhi \u2013 Fourth 1000\" href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?page_id=23\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> 5-8)<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the name of the prabandham<\/strong>: ezhu \u2013 7, kURu \u2013 parts, irukkai \u2013 being\/having. Or, it is in 7\u2019s \u2013 that may be based on poetry based on time, place, counts, is referred to as \u2018<em>chiththirak kavithai<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 we can draw thiruvezhukURRirukkai, in the form of a chariot. The chariot starts with a small width and becomes wider and wider. In the same way, thiruvezhukURRirukkai uses numbers 123 in one line of the pAsuram, then uses 12321 in the next line, then 123454321,\u00a0 12345654321, 1234567654321, and again 1234567654321.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/thiruvezhukURRirukkai.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2148\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/thiruvezhukURRirukkai.jpg\" alt=\"thiruvezhukURRirukkai\" width=\"521\" height=\"697\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This form of poem is called ratha bandham.<\/p>\n<p>Following diagram of the prabandham provides a visual treat &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/1drv.ms\/b\/s!AiNzc-LF3uwygUVOzrchR3x1VyJr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvezhukURRirukkai_English_drawing<\/a><\/p>\n<p>thiruvezhukURRirukkai is recited at the start of thEr (chariot) uthsavam in many <a href=\"https:\/\/koyil.org\">dhivya dhEsams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This translation is not meant to be done word by word; it is attempted to provide salient points of the vyAkyAnams.
