What happened to your enemies?\u201d. AzhwAr responds saying \u201cgetting rid of enemies has becomes <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s responsibility\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>peRRam piNai marudham pEymulai mAchchagadam<\/em><br \/>\n<em> muRRakkAththUdupOy uNdudhaiththu kaRRukkuNilai<\/em><br \/>\n<em> viLanganikkuk koNdeRindhAn veRRip<\/em><br \/>\n<em> paNilam vAy vaiththugandhAn paNdu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>peRRam \u2013 cows<br \/>\nmuRRakkAththu \u2013 protecting without leaving out even one cow<br \/>\npiNai marudham Udu pOy \u2013 going between the (two) intertwined pair of arjuna trees<br \/>\npEy mulai uNdu \u2013 suckling the demon pUthanA<br \/>\nmA sagadam udhaiththu \u2013 kicking the huge wheel<br \/>\nkaRRu kuNilaik koNdu \u2013 using the calf as a stick to throw against<br \/>\nviLanganikku eRindhAn \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who threw it against the wood apple<br \/>\npaNdu \u2013 once upon a time<br \/>\nveRRi paNilam \u2013 conch which has the habit of winning<br \/>\nvAy vaiththu \u2013 blowing it from his mouth<br \/>\nugandhAn \u2013 was happy<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyanam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>peRRam piNai marudham &#8230;.<\/strong> \u2013 this pAsuram comes under the category of niRai aNi in thamizh grammar. In other words, each of the words in the first line should be connected with the corresponding word in the second line. Thus, the sequence will be: peRRam \u2013 muRRak kAththu; piNai marudham \u2013 Udu pOy; pEy mulai \u2013 uNdu; mAch chagadam \u2013 udhaiththu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>peRRam<\/strong> \u2013 cows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>piNai marudham<\/strong> \u2013 two arjuna trees which had intertwined without any gap between them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pEy mulai<\/strong> \u2013 the bosom of demonic woman, pUthanA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAchchagadam<\/strong> \u2013 the fearsome wheel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>muRRak kAththu<\/strong> \u2013 protecting all the cows without leaving out even one<\/p>\n<p><strong>Udu pOy<\/strong> \u2013 going between the arjuna trees, in which the demons yamaLa and arjuna had pervaded, in such a way that they were felled<\/p>\n<p><strong>uNdu<\/strong> \u2013 suckling pUthanA such that she was killed<\/p>\n<p><strong>udhaiththu<\/strong> \u2013 kicking the demon who had come in the form of a wheel<\/p>\n<p>then<\/p>\n<p><strong>kaRRuk kuNilai<\/strong> \u2013 using a calf as a throwing stick<\/p>\n<p><strong>viLanganikkuk koNdu eRindhAn<\/strong> \u2013 he threw (the calf) at a wood apple fruit. By using one (calf) [demon] which came to kill him, he killed the other (wood apple).<\/p>\n<p><strong>veRRippaNilam vAy vaiththu ugandhAn<\/strong> \u2013 who did all these? It is he who blew the victorious conch pAnchajanyam keeping in his mouth and felt happy, after killing the gang of demons, that he had annihilated the enemies of his followers. Since he had taken a vow that he will not don any weapon, he killed his followers\u2019 enemies by the mere trumpeting sound of conch. Instead of killing each enemy separately with the bows of arjuna, he killed all the enemies simultaneously with the sound of conch and carried out benefit for his followers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>paNdu<\/strong> \u2013 before he reached the stage of adulthood, he killed the inimical demons with his hands.
